1 Introduction
The space limitation on the towers of the existing sites is affecting the network modernization.
In order to make space on the existing towers to install the new antennas, the existing
antennas (mostly 2G and 3G) are replaced with penta-band antennas. This multiple band
antenna will serve for 2G (900 band), 3G (900 and 2100 bands) and LTE-FDD (1800 and 2100
bands). The pair ports of each band are cross-polarized and will serve as a normal antenna.
The Commscope RV4PX310R-V2 or Argus® Multiband Antenna has five cross-polarized ports
one supporting the band 694–960 and other four port pairs supporting the wide band 1695–
2690 MHz, All port pairs have 65° horizontal beamwidth, and there is internal electrical tilt with
manual override as well. All Bands have cascaded SRET. The antenna has one physical interface
each for RET in and RET out.

2100 MHz)

U900
NOTE:
As a standard in Mobily project, all the RETs should be connected to the FDD system for
remote controlling. It is connected through 3G-2100 MHAs (WMHD), if there is no FDD.
Procedure:
1. Identify the correct manual adjustment screw of the required RF ports. There are
5 manually adjustable screws allocated for each pair of ports, as shown in the
below figure (encircled in yellow and red).
FXED-1 RF Module
• The RET ports of the three antennas are daisy-chained and the chain is terminated at the RET
port of the FXED RF module.
• If there is any problem in detecting the RETs, FXED-2 or the FRGUs can be used for testing
purpose.
• After connecting the 3 antennas, there should be 15 (5x3) RETs autodetected.
• Once the RETs are autodetected, map it to the corresponding technology from the FDD site
manager.
• The RETs for all the applicable RATs are configured on the FDD eNB. It means the 2G or 3G
electrical tilts can be adjusted from the FDD site manager.
• It is mandatory to configure the RETs properly, map it to the corresponding antenna line and
make sure that the RETs are labelled as per the standard.
• Example of RET labelling is furnished below.
o FDD_sec-A1, FDD_sec-A2, FDD_sec-B1, FDD_sec-B2, FDD_sec-C1, FDD_sec-C2
o UG900_sec-A, UG900_sec-B, UG900_sec-C For GSM-900/U900 RETs
o U2100_sec-A, U2100_sec-B, U2100_sec-C For WCDMA-2100 RETs
o Dummy_sec-A, Dummy_sec-B, Dummy_sec-C For the unused RETs.
This method is opted for the Sites with no existing FDD. The existing MHA (WMHD)
of 3G-2100 is used to connect the RETs.
This eliminated the need of cascading as there are independent MHAs available for
each sector. This adds the advantage of adjusting the ET of 3G and 2G sites
remotely, even if there is no FDD.
The high-level connection diagram is furnished below. Follow the same labelling
standards as described in option-1. But here all the mappings will be done from the
WBTS Site manager tool.

5 MDT Procedure
Pre-MDT:
• Make sure that there is no access issue. If there is, highlight it in advance to make the
necessary arrangements.
• Make sure that the TSSR is approved.
• Pre-DT to be done for all the affecting RATs.
MDT Procedure:
Post-MDT
• Monitor the site and make sure that there are no related alarms or issues.
• Make sure that all the related KPIs are following the same trend as before.
The below table reveals the way to identify the RETs based on its serial number. All the
detected RETs are supposed to be mapped with its respective RAT / Antenna line.
