Introduction
A car accident, also referred to as a “traffic
collision,” or a “motor vehicle accident,” occurs
when a motor vehicle strikes or collides another
vehicle, a stationary object, a pedestrian, or an
animal. While some car accidents result only in
property damage, others result in severe
injuries or death. There are many factors that
can contribute to car accidents, and sometimes
such accidents have legal consequences. This
motivated the researchers to come up with this
study to find out the health beliefs and
practices of public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers
on the prevention of vehicular accidents. This
study sought to improve their practice on
health beliefs to prevent the occurrence of
vehicular accidents and this would serve as a
basis in formulating and conducting health
education.
Methodology Findings
The study used quantitative-descriptive research
design and was conducted in greatest number of
cases of vehicular accidents in Ilocos Norte. Based
on the latest report of Ilocos Norte Police
Provincial Office, from January to April 2017. The
study was specifically conducted in the 7 jeepney
terminals in Laoag City which are from the
following terminals: Laoag-Gabu, Laoag-
Calayab/Suba, Laoag-Navotas, Laoag-La Paz,
Laoag-Caaoacan, Laoag-Dibua, and Laoag-San
Mateo.

Objectives
The study primarily aimed to determine the
health beliefs and practices of public utility
vehicle (PUV) drivers on the prevention of
vehicular accidents. Specifically, it sought to
identify the socio-demographic profile of the
respondents, determine the respondents’ health
beliefs and determine the respondents’ extent of
practice of health beliefs on the prevention of
vehicular accidents.
