Division of Bohol Notches 2 Best ICT Practices Awards

The DepEd Division of Bohol recently participated and grabbed the 2 top spots in the Best ICT Practices
Awards during the recently concluded Regional DepEd ICT Summit at the Golden Peak Hotel, Cebu City on
November 13-14, 2017. Mr. Fernando B. Enad, the School ICT of San Agustin National High School and the
proponent of both entries, received the said awards alongside the other members of the Bohol delegation.

The said summit was conducted in response to the DepEd Order No. 143, s 2017 which aims to generate
awareness among and support from education managers and school communities on ICT initiatives; and
cultivate a culture of sustainability among DepEd ICT initiatives across all levels.

The delegation was composed of the Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos; the
Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, Mrs. Marina Salamanca; the CID Chief, Dr. Casiana Caberte;
the SGOD Chief, Mr. Desiderio Deligero; the Division ITO, Ms. Dinah Florence Talan; and the personnel
from the San Agustin National High School who represented the Division in the Best ICT Practices Awards.

It was on the first day of the summit where the keynote speeches on the selected topics on ICT were
conducted. There were a total of 4 keynote speeches covering the topics, namely: EdTech Tools Feasible
in the Philippines by Mr. Galvin Radley Ngo (CEO, Woohoo Learning Lab); Digital Citizenship,
Cybersecurity, and Data Privacy by Asec. Allan Cabanlong (ASEC, Department of Information and
Communications Technology); Right Technologies for the Classroom by Mr. Rigan Ap-apid (Dean, SWU-
PHINMA); and the Showcase of DepEd Achievements & Plans for Education ICT by Miss Encarnacion
Escuadro (User Support Chief, Department of Education).

As a culminating activity which took place on the second day of the summit, the Best ICT Practices Awards
was also conducted. Even before the summit started in November 12, 2017, the delegation from the
different Divisions in the Region 7 already setup their respective Booths where they showcased their
entries for the Teaching & Learning and the Governance categories for the BEST ICT Practices Awards.
There were a total of 19 entries for the Teaching and Learning category and 6 entries for the Governance
category. The Best Summit Booth was also part of the competition which were joined by the 19 Divisions.
The said activity served as the avenue to choose the region’s representative to the national awards which
will be held next year.

After the thorough and intensive judging and validation of the entries by the Screening Committee and by
the summit participants, the Bohol Division swiped out the first spot in the Teaching & Learning and the
Governance categories with “Moodle in the Classroom” and “San Agustin NHS Management Information
System” as their entries respectively. Negros Oriental Division on the otherhand, won the Best Summit
Booth.
