TELL US about your latest book,
“Rebound”. What was the inspira- tion behind this story? What was the process of working on this book like? “Rebound” is a story inspired by love and the inevitable sentiment it YOUNG GUN: Sanil Sachar provides – hope. It’s a romantic mystery inspired by a true story, one I researched for about two years before writing. It took several drafts to get to the first words, sim- ply because I wanted to do justice to all those who were kind and brave enough to share their stories with me. It is a journey about a schizo- phrenic born in the circus life. There was an abundance of research which involved sitting with people who have first-hand experience in this subject, either as patients or as family, friends and medical assistance. The circus research was more global, with a trip to Russia over a year ago being a pivotal factor to the setting. The world needs to know more about schizophrenia and to con- nect that with the splendid art and skill showcased in circuses was a challenge I set myself because they both have a common point where they meet. (Of course, I won’t reveal how and where for you!) Which brings me to my next question. “Rebound” is centred around the themes of circus and schizophrenia. Do these themes, in a sense, depict some similarity in your narrative? This seems like a trick question! If I say too much I might end up giving out the entire story, if I say too little, you might think I am trying to hide that it might be similar! A bit of a catch-22 situation for me! However, I personally feel we are all part of a

circus, a bit like Shakespeare said – ‘the world is a stage’, I am merely changing the venue. As for “Rebound”, whether there is a similarity and if so, where, that is up to the readers. Currently, there are conflicting views on this matter, with readers emailing me regarding questions similar to this. I might soon reveal more.
