Title: DVT Therapy Pump DATE: 4-25-2014

By: Huntleigh Disclaimer: This procedure provided "as is" and with possible
File = DVT-Flowtron faults. User must verify before use. Neither provider nor website
assumes any responsibility for its use.

General
Applies to the Huntleigh Flowtron Universal DVT pump.

1. Reference Information
User Instructions – P/N - 507933EN_02
Service Manual - P/N SER0009
See Appendix for search hints, web links and cuff P/N’s.

2. Tools / Fixtures
Manometer capable of reading up to 130 mmHg.
At least one calf or foot cuff, wrapped around an appropriate
cyclinder.

3. Basic PM Procedure -- recommended 12 mo interval

If available, see Service Manual Chapter 3.

3.1. Physical
• Check cord integrity and case for cracks.
• There is no on/off switch
• Clean or replace filter pad on back of unit. Check strain relief.

3.2. Turn-On Events

With no cuffs attached, unit will power up when plugged in. The self-test sequence is smart enough
to know if no cuffs, or two calf cuffs, or a foot cuff is attached. After the diagnostics, the display
eventually will read “PLEASE WAIT” followed by “Standby Attach garments” and a short audible
beep.

3.3. Cuff Connections (Garment Recognition Test)

Attach a cuff to each of the unit’s hoses. If possible, use a foot cuff on one side and a calf cuff on the
other. The unit will automatically detect and know if it is a calf (40mmHg) or foot (130mmHg) cuff,
and will show these choices. If one cuff is not connected, the corresponding display will indicate
“NONE”. See table in Appendix for pressure and hold times.

Note: The unit detects cuff type using RF to sense a specific toroid in the hose connector of the cuff. If
detection does not occur, the problem often lies in the wires/connections of the unit-to-cuff hose. If there
are any kinks in the hose (even at the cuff port), the unit can momentarily overpressure, which will soon
display a warning. A hose connector itself can be identified by the ring inside (brass – foot; dark – calf).

3.4. Pressure Checks

• Connect manometer to one of the output ports; preferably the foot cuff which has higher pressure.
Press “ “ (Run/Standby) for approximately two seconds to start the pump.
• If using a foot cuff, the pressure should reach 130mmHg.
• Check remaining Output Port/Cuff. Calf cuffs should inflate to only 40 mmHg.
• Low Pressure Detect: Run the unit with no hoses connected. An audible alarm normally occurs
in less than a minute.
• While running with both cuffs, remove one and note that the corresponding LED display shows
“NONE”. The display will soon read “Lo Alarm”..
3.5. Cycle Time/Pressure Verification
Hold and interval information are in a table in the Appendix.

APPENDIX

Accuracy Pressure Range: 40mmHg +/- 5mmHg calf; 130mmHg +/-5mmHg foot. However the first
pressure pulse or two may overshoot by 10-20 mmHg.

Miscellaneous
DVT = Deep Vein Thrombosis
Cuff ID P/N’S: DVT10=calf cuff; FG100= regular foot cuff; FG200= foot garment large.

Troubleshooting / Error Info

The line cord, despite its securing plate, can gradually move and disconnect.
The two output hoses have internal wires and sensors; so despite a good outside appearance, a hose
can still be defective.
“Pump Fault Rfid” Hose-set electrical connections are not fitted correctly to pump.
