CLAUSES OF PURPOSE

a) Não inicie frases com FOR
b) FOR + NOUN
c) FOR + Gerund (descrever o exato propósito de algo)
Ex: We went out for a pizza (Nós saímos para comer pizza).
This function of the ar conditioning is for reducing humidity. (Essa função
do ar condicionado é para reduzir a umidade).
3) SO THAT
a) Não comece frases com SO THAT
b) Seguido de SUBJECT + MODAL (can, could, would,...).
Ex: Here’s my number so that you can call me if you have a problem. (Aqui
está o meu número para que você possa me ligar se tiver m problema.).
4) SO AS NOT TO
a) Pode ser usado no início de frase
Ex: We walked in quietly so as not to wake up the children. (Nós entramos
silenciosamente para que não acordássemos as crianças.).
Some people do not eat before exercises in order not to feel nauseated.
(Algumas pessoas não comem antes de exercícios para que não se sintam
enjoadas.)
Poderá haver um exercício na prova no qual ele dê duas frases e teremos que
uni-las usando o termo entre parênteses:
a) They went down to the harbor. He wants to see if they had a fresh fish.
(TO).
R: They went down to the harbor to see if they had a fresh fish.
b) I’ll put your number right into my phone. I don’t want to forget it. (SO AS
NOT TO)
R: I’ll put your number right into my phone so as not to forget it.
