TITLE OF THE PROJECT:

WATER QUALITY ANALYSIS OF SPRING WATER (NAMASTE JHARANA) FOR DRINKING
AND IRRIGATION PURPOSE

2. BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT:

Water is probably the most important natural resource in the world, since without it,
life cannot exist. A civilization cannot develop or prosper without ample water for
plant, agricultural and commercial activities. Safe drinking water is important for
health and sanitation. With the increasing use of water for human beings, it has
become more important to appraise water quality of a continuous basis. Water serves
more in fulfilling of human needs than does any other natural resources. However,
water may also be a medium for transporting microorganism and toxic chemicals.
Water both in quantity and quality is a serious problem in many areas. Yet, no test
were examined the quality of water of Namaste jharana, Which indicates whether the
water is safe for drinking or not. So, We choose this area because the people around
the Namaste jharana believe that water available their may contain toxic chemicals
that aren’t suitable for drinking and irrigation purposes.

3. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:

 To check the water whether it is suitable for drinking or not.
 To check the water whether it is suitable for irrigation or not.
 To assess the attitude of people towards water quality.

4. PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
4.1. PROBLEM AND SIGNIFICANCE:

The deforestation is main problem in our country which leads the soil loss at that place
and due to the loss of soil, the water sources becomes polluted and is not safe for drinking.
Many mankind activities directly affects the quality of water sources. This project helps to
lead or provide guideline to make plans and policies. Thus, this helps to create awareness
among the people for safe drinking water and to choose purification and treatment
techniques of water. It also helps the people to use effective way for irrigation.

4.2. METHODOLOGY:

4.2.1 LAB ANALYSIS METHOD

•SAMPLING SITES

The samples will be taken from spring inlet, spring rivulet and Tamor river.

•SAMPLE COLLECTION PROCEDURES

The mineral water bottles (1lit) will be used for the collection of a samples. The
bottles should be washed with the water at the sampling site. The bottles should
be submerged with mouth facing upstream against the direction of flow and then
the neck is tilted slightly to let it till before replacing the cap and cover.

•SAMPLE PRESERVATION AND HANDLING

The water samples collected from the source should be kept in ice box and then
carried to the laboratory.

•PARAMETER ANALYSIS METHOD

The collected water samples will be analysed by the authorized lab analyst.

4.2.2 INTERVIEW WITH PEOPLE

In order to know the perception of people towards water quality they will be
asked some questionnaires related to water quality and causes and possible
solutions of water pollution of the Namaste Jharana.

4.2.3 FIELD VISIT

Field visit will be made in order to determine the sampling sites and to understand
the causes and sources of water pollution.

4.3 EXPECTED RESULT

We will expect that the spring water is suitable for drinking and irrigation purpose for
the surrounding villages and on the other hand it will increase the yield of crops.

5. PROJECT TEAM
Agricultural Engineering Department of Purwanchal campus, Dharan is going to sponser
us in our project.

6. BUDGET/TIMELINE
The overall Budgeting including transportation, collecting sample, food, required
chemicals which we haven’t in our laboratory sum near about Rs.10,000/-
