METHOD STATEMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF UPS

1.0 PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this Method Statement is to describe in details the method for the
installation of UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supplies)

2.0 SCOPE
2.1 The purpose of this Method statement is to define the procedure to be adopted for the
installation of UPS and ensure that the jobs are carried out strictly in accordance
with the requirements specified in the relevant specifications.

3.0 TOOLS AND RESOURCES

3.1 Portable Hand Tools


3.2 Multi meter
3.3 Clamp meter
3.4 Drilling machine

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
4.1 PROJECT MANAGER

4.1.1 Project manager shall be responsible overall to complete all MEP works as per
specifications, budget, time, & quality.

4.2 SITE ENGINEER/ SUPERVISOR

4.2.1 To ensure that all the preparation and application works are carried out according to
the contract specification and manufacturer’s data sheet(s).

4.2.2 To ensure that the progressing of works is carried out according to the planned
program, and as per the approved Method statement.

4.2.3 To ensure that all the equipment’s and materials required in executing the works are
available according to the planned constriction program.

4.2.4 To coordinate with the main contractor’s MEP coordinator and safety officer for all
safe and proper execution of the work in accordance with the risk assessment.

4.2.5 To coordinate with the civil team for any area preparation, access, clearance.

4.2.6

4.3 QA/QC ENGINEER

4.3.1 Inspecting the materials on site as per approved materials submittal and raise MIR
within 24 hrs. prior to installation on site.

4.3.2 Inspection for the installation as per approved drawings and approved test plans and
checklists.

4.3.3 Preparing test forms for testing on site and updating results accomplished.

4.3.4 Issuing inspection request within 24 hrs. before the actual inspection.

4.3.5 Responsible for the assurance of Quality control, method statement and inspection test
plan.

4.3.6 Controlling the shop drawings flow at site.

4.4 HSE OFFICER

4.4.1 H& S Officer shall be responsible for but not limited to the following important
activities:

4.4.1.1 Ensure health and safety of the site personnel.


4.4.1.2 Ensuring PPE available with site personnel.
4.4.1.3 Good housekeeping on site.
4.4.1.4 Environmental concerns are addressed.
4.4.1.5 Responsible for implementation and assurance of the safety and environmental
requirements (JSEA).

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 HANDLING & STORAGE

5.1.1 Upon receipt of the UPS system and accessories at site, necessary precautions shall
be taken for unloading, shifting & storage as follows:-

5.1.1.1 Ups system and components delivered at site shall be carefully off-loaded by
deploying necessary manpower and equipment in such a manner that no damage is
caused to UPS system and components.

5.1.1.2 Uncrate, unpack and remove the panel from its timber base. Care must be taken to
protect the panel from unnecessary scratched or bends on the panels.

5.1.1.3 MIR should be raised for Material Inspection and approval with all relevant
supporting documents.

5.1.1.4 UPS system and components shall be checked visually/mechanically for any
damage during the shipment or movement to site.

5.1.1.5 UPS system and components shall be stored as per the storage condition listed on
both packing and directly on the goods.

5.1.1.6 Material found not suitable for site use shall be removed from site immediately.

5.1.17 The equipment must be kept upright at all times and handled with care, damage may
be caused if dropped or subjected to severe impact. When moving the Equipment
with a forklift, secure it against tilting.

5.1.18 The goods have been checked thoroughly before dispatch. On receipt check the
packaging and ensure that the contents are undamaged.

5.1.1.9 The utmost care shall be taken when removing the packaging in order to avoid
damaging the equipment. Check all packing materials to ensure that no items are
discarded. Once the packaging has been removed, the UPS shall be taken off the
pallet by removing the retaining screws.

5.1.10 If it is not intended that the UPS be used within seven days of delivery, attention
shall be paid to the storage conditions that conform to the product standard. If the
batteries or the equipment are to be stored they must be kept in a clean, Dry
environment and away from extremes of temperatures.

5.2 INSTALLATION

5.2.1 Prior to commencement of installation it shall be ensured that all previous activities
have been completed & the area is released to start the installation of UPS system.

5.2.2 The UPS must be installed vertically on a level and even surface and in an area
protected from extremes of temperature, water and humidity. DO not stack units
and do not place objects on top of them.

5.2.3 The area must have sufficient space for installation maneuvers to be carried out
access doors must be wide enough to permit unobstructed transport of the device.
5.2.4 Installation of Cable tray of pulling cables shall be carried out by coordinating with
other system services and approved drawing.
5.2.5 Prior to pulling of Cable, check and ensure that there are no sharp edges/burrs in the
raceways to prevent damage while pulling wires.
5.2.6 Cable shall be pulled for UPS system as per approved drawing.
5.2.7 Battery cabinets and DC battery CB shall be installed alongside the UPS. All
installation civil clearance shall be obtained.
5.2.8 Isolation transformer shall be installed as per the approved drawing and
manufacturer recommendation. Sufficient Clarence’s shall be provided for the
future maintenance and shall be as per manufacturer/supplier approved layouts and
wiring schematic.
5.2.9 Insert anchor bolt to the hole provided.
5.2.10 Install Change over switch enclosure to the wall align and level and tighten all
anchor bolt nuts (with washer).

5.3 CONNECTING THE BATTERIES

5.3.1 The UPS is equipped with a separating device for the battery DC power connection.

5.3.2 Before connecting the batteries, please read the notice and warning label on the UPS
or battery Cubicle.

5.3.3 Connect the UPS and battery cabinets as per specification.

5.3.4 Connect the earth cable (PE) before connecting the other cables.

5.3.5 Check the polarity of each shelf, making sure that the voltage is correct.

5.3.6 Connect the shelves to one another. Check polarity of each cabinet at the fuse holder.

5.3.8 An inspection request shall be raised for the UPS system installation for
signature/acceptance to the client representative.
