ANALOG & DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

Shahbaz.pms@gmail.com

"Inside every digital circuit, there's an analog signal, screaming to get out."
Al Kovalick, Hewlett-Packard

 WHY UNDERSTAND ANALOG & DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY?

Without understanding ANALOG & DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY in the field of audio visual is just
like, you understand the address of a company without city name.

 FUNDAMENTAL OF ANALOG & DIGITAL SIGNALS:

ANALOG SIGNALS: Analog signals are defined as continuously variable signals whose level
can be adjusted very precisely.
They are generally easy to
distribute, switch and transmit
and are less susceptible to
noise than digital signals.
Because of these properties, it
is preferable to convert a audio
video signal to the analog form
for proper distribution and
transmission. In order to insure
accurate transmission of analog
audio video signals, coaxial
cables must be used to make all display system connections. Using good quality coaxial
cable, analog signals can easily be transmitted from 50 to 75 feet with negligible signal
degradation. The exact length of cable run allowed will depend on the scan frequency of the
video signal and the bandwidth characteristics of the coaxial cable.

DIGITAL SIGNALS: Digital audio video signals are a step variable type of signal whose
amplitude cannot be
adjusted. By definition: a
digital signal can only be in
one of two states, "on" or
"off." On is said to have a
level of 1, and off has a level
of 0. The most advanced
AUDIO VIDEO devices today
use digital (Electronics)
circuitry to deliver advanced
features and performance at affordable prices. In today’s equipment, the original analog

signal is digitized (converted to digital form). It literally becomes a high-speed stream of

numbers that represent the original signal, the way numbers are represented inside a
computer.

 COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF ADVANTAGE/DISADVANTAGE OF ANALOG &

DIGITAL:

ANALOG ADVANTAGE DIGITAL ADVANTAGE

Easy to distribute User Friendly
Continuously Variable More economically
True to life quality Multi generations
More reliable
Easy to manipulate
Space saving
Easy to maintain

ANALOG DISADVANTAGE DIGITAL DISADVANTAGE

Expansive Compressed quality
Generation’s loss Near to life quality
Need more space to store
Every time degradation when use
Difficult to maintain

 WHY DIGITAL?
Most effects and features can be done better and more economically using digital video
technology. Many simply cannot be done without it. Digital video generally maintains quality
better than analog since the signal can be digitally copied and digitally transformed without
adding noise, distortion, and color and luminance shifts. Digital circuits have another
important advantage they are more reliable and can work for years with little or no
adjustment.
