The Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Greetings of peace. A very warm, Franciscan welcome to our many visitors here this week. We are so
happy that you have chosen St. Anthony Shrine as your spiritual home-away-from-home in Boston.

I would like to give a report on security at the Shrine. It has several different components. We have two
contracts related to security. SecurAmerica is a private company which supplies the uniformed officers
that you see at the Shrine. TeamLogic installs and services the security cameras and monitors at the
Shrine. The security officers and several people on the Shrine staff watch those monitors throughout the
day and evening. We also have a very close relationship with both the Boston Police Department and
the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District. We partner with them on neighborhood initiatives to
improve safety and security. (By the way, two members of Boston PD’s Special Operations Unit not only
attended Midnight Mass in uniform last Christmas Eve, but they also went to communion. Bravo!) We
communicate regularly with downtown social service organizations – such as St. Francis House and Pine
Street Inn – about both the well-being and (sometimes) threat-risk of the regular homeless people that you
see on the street. Please let us know if situations arise that make you concerned about the safety and
security of yourself or others. If you know of an incident, the key piece of information that we need is the
date and exact time of the incident. That allows us to quickly find the incident on our security videos.
Thank you for your help in this endeavor.
