Definition of High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)

 Translated as Kemahiran Berfikir Aras Tinggi (KBAT) in Bahasa Malaysia.

 The set of skills that are linked to three categories:

i. Transfer
Requiring students not only to remember, but also to make sense of and be
able to use what they have learned.

ii. Critical Thinking

The reasonable, reflective thinking that is focused on deciding what to believe
or do.

iii. Problem Solving

The problem to solve is how to reach the desired goal. Because a student
cannot automatically recognize the proper way to reach the desired goal, she
must use one or more higher-order thinking processes.

 The HOTS refer to many educational taxonomies (process of classifying something

into groups) especially to Bloom’s Taxonomy.
