Nursing Informatics 2018

Name : Krissa Marie C. Paña,

I.
1. Informatics is defined as computer science + information science.
American Nurses Association (ANA) defines Nursing Informatics as the 2 development and
evaluation of applications, tool, processes, and structures which assist nurses with the
management of data in taking care of patientsor supporting the practice of nursing.
3. data is defined as discrete entities that are described objectively without
interpretation
4.__information_ defined as data that is interpreted, organized or structured
5.__knowledge__ as information that has been synthesized so that interrelationships are
identified and formalized.

Nursing Informatics can be applied to all areas of nursing practice, which include; clinical
practice, administration, education, and research.

Benefits to:

Nursing Clinical Practice (Point-of-Care Systems and Clinical Information Systems)

6.work list to remind staff of planned nursing intervention
7.computer generated client documentation

Nursing Education
8.computerized record keeping
9.interactive video technology

EMR benefits include:

10. decrease redundancy of data entry
11.improved access to the medical record

The Role of the Nursing Informatics Specialist (NIS):

12. theory development
13. analysis of information

14.___Hardware_____ is the physical part of the computer and its associated equipment.
Computer hardware can comprise many different parts, these include:
15. ____input device_______ Give used to enter data; keyboard, mouse, trackball, touch screen,
light pen, microphone, bar code reader, fax modem card, joystick, and scanner.
16.___output device______used to view and hear processed data; video monitor screens,
printers, speakers, and fax.
17._central processing unit ( CPU )_"brain" of the computer, three components:
18. _____memory___is the storage area in which program instruction (code) reside during
execution.
19. ____Read-only memmory______is permanent; it remains when the power is off.
20._random access memory______ is a temporary storage area for program instructions and data
that is being processed, it is only active while the computer is turned on. (located on the
motherboard not part of CPU)
II. Differentiate in your own words the management and processing components that can be
considered to be the functional components of informatics.

III. Discuss the Role of Support Personnel

ANSWERS:

II. Management refers to the way the healthcare team together with other experts
facilitate the used of nursing informatics. These management includes the following:
Basic Knowledge on Computer which is divided into two; The HARDWARE and
SOFTWARE. Any healthcare provider or IT personnel should have a basic
foundation of the mechanical parts of computer and background on software in order
to identify, define, manage, and communicate data, information, knowledge, and
wisdom in nursing practice and hospital setting. Through right usage and
management, each nurse informaticist, helps organizations manage their systems
more effectively and saves time and money by avoiding unnecessary asset purchases
and promoting the harvesting of existing resources. Moreover, management would be
more effective thru standard protocol at hospitals and clinics such as; Disposal and
Proper Management of Files and Documentations as per date, Upgrading Computer
Hardware for fast and accessible workplace and interaction with patients, Annual
Meetings and Open Forum for suggestions and ideas to maintain effective usage of
informatics etc. while Processing Components are the data, knowledge and
information gathered by the healthcare providers, IT experts and other professionals.
It is the collection, storage, interpretation, transformation, and report practice in
informatics to support nursing practice, education, research, and administration. As
one of the most important tools in the success of nursing informatics, processing
components integrate its wide coverage of communication among nurses, doctors, IT
personnel, HR dept. and patients through encoding messages and transferred as a
good and efficient feedback. Processing Components makes nursing informatics more
challenging and at the same time fun and exciting. It teaches the healthcare team the
effective transition of telecommunications to provide better care and improvement in
the field of science and health.

III. The Role of Support Personnel:

Just like in any health setting, support personnel are very important to develop a
systematic and balance workplace. Through the help of support personnel, we are
able to adopt the continuous fast-growing technology involvement in the healthcare
setting. They are the ones who do the planning system upgrades, installation of
upgrades for operating systems and various applications, troubleshooting and user
education and training. Support personnel include the following;

Superuser – one of the most experts among support personnel whereby additional
experiences in hardware and software as well as new applications are a mass. They
are the most efficient or the master in the computer system at hospital setting.
Microcomputer Specialist – are the ones who have specific expertise in computer
science and related area.

Analyst – most of them are clinicians who have attain computer and informatics
training and education that are greatly helpful in transmitting messages in healthcare
setting.

Programmer – the encoder and instruct different application in informatics, through

knowledge of computer shortcuts, numbers and patterns.

Network Administrator – set as the bridge in network planning, approval and

management for fast informatics usage and avoidance of communication breakdown
among the experts for they well-organized the system.

Director, Information Services – one of the largest group of support personnel which
include the foundation of informatics such as; planning, budgeting, information,
security. Management, improvement and chain of individual perception of systems to
achieve effective informatics practice.

Given above support personnel, I believe that the health care team could give more
patience, therapeutic communication and passionate care and professionalism in the
healthcare setting.
