DIY LED Bulb (/tag/typeid/category

My objective with this project was to create a low cost energy saving LED bulb
for slum areas. Energy saving bulbs are expensive here in Pakistan. Chinese DIY LED Projects LED Lighting (/tag/typeid/category
bulbs rating 5 to 7 Watts costs around 6 to 8 US$ which are not affordable for technology/keyworddiy+led+projects+led+lighting/)
lower middle class families.
So I started working on a LED bulb but the problem is I was not able to get Related
housing for that so I started searching for housing, an old energy server's
housing was enough for me but unfortunately I wont be able to find one for

The circuit is consists of very few parts, just one resistor , two capacitors, four
diodes and six high bright 1W LEDs. I have constructed circuit without any PCB.
Just twisted components with each other and sold them to make the bulb work.
Step 2: Construct LED Bulb

After your circuit is ready, just sold LEDs over silver 6 LED plate in series, these
plates are available in market easily. After soldering the LEDs to LED Plate (that
uses as heat sink for LEDs). Now connect the terminals with circuit and screw
the box.
That's it , your bulb is ready to light.

can we use 7 or 10 or how many more 1watt led,s in same circuit.or what
change we should made to make 15 leds bulbplz, make 15 leds circuit

.
what we call 100 R 3w.
is it (100 ohm resistor of 3 watt )
and if 100 ohm resistor of 2 watt connected with
100 ohm resistor of 1 watt is it = 100 ohm resistor of 3 watt
plz explain..

100R 3W is simply a 100ohm 3 watt resistor.
(/member/Lucif3r945/)
Using multiple resistors is a bit tricky.
If you put 2 in series, the resistance will be added together, e.g
100ohm+100ohm=200ohm, 100ohm+300ohm=400ohm etc. The power
dissipation (wattage) will not change.
Now, if you instead put them in parallel, the dissipation will be added,
e.g. 2 3W resistors would become equal to one 6W, BUT! The
resistance will be reduced! e.g. 2x100ohm resistors in parallel will
become 50ohm, 3x100ohm would become ~33ohm etc etc. So since
putting 2x100ohm 3W would be equal to 1x50ohm 6W, you would need
to add another 2 100ohm 3W in series with the parallel ones, bringing
the resistance back to 100ohm while keeping the 6W dissipation.
Unfortunately, I am not good enough to explain mixing different values
in parallel(like, 1x100ohm 2W and 1x50ohm 1W), which complicates
things further(Im sure theres a formula to calculate it somewhere).
So in your case, I would go with 2x200ohm 2W resistors in parallel,
which would equal 1x100ohm 4W resistor. Having a bit of headroom
with the dissipation is nice should there be a powerspike etc.
thanx for reply

I have made this lamp with 4 nos of led, but withine 5 minutes, register get hot
and burnt.

I have build same circuit with single LED but
instead of 100R increase value to 330R

Add on/off switch

It will be fitted into normal electric holder so normal
electric holder already have a switch.
(/member/Creatives360/)
simple and practical but please use constant current sources with high power
leds. resistors are ok for toys or 5mm Led but not for this.

If I use normal strw hat LEDs how should I connect them in to the circuit??How
much there should be in a row?? What is the maximum number>??

I like your post very much
I guess R1 and C1 give rise to a certain voltage and amperage output, how is
this calculated?
(/member/The+Freak/)
This is a very good job sir,,, can i contect with you on cell..?
(/member/hamidsaeed/)
Your resistor is 3W but your current draw is 6W LED, the resistor will burn off
easily. My one already burn off what about your???
(/member/recuat/)
The bulbs are connected in series, therefore total current is 1W and for
1W current 3W resistor is much sufficient. If you have build the circuit I
(/member/Creatives360/)
have mentioned I guarantee you it will not burn out. I have 6 similar
bulbs in my home and all are working perfectly fine with daily usage of
8 to 12 hours.
It's a clever idea I may have to borrow for some led lights in my
greenhouse.
(/member/ericCycles/)
A few thoughts:
1) Capacitance is measured in Farads. Some googling suggests C1 is
5uF based on that 155J label.
2) The heat produced by R1 = the current flow * the voltage across it.
You should be able to measure both with a multimeter if you have one.
That would answer the question of what wattage R1 needed to be.
I think you haven't constructed same circuit which I have given above,
because selecting the wrong value of capacitor will pass out large
(/member/Creatives360/)
amount of current and in that way may be resister will blow up, but the
circuit I have given above is working fine and even resister wont heat
up.
I use to open for at least 6 hours at night for 5 day only, then blown off

Pretty cool! Creative and effective, good job!
