Program Associate – Emergency Shelter Program

Center for the Pacific-Asian Family, Inc. (CPAF) was founded in 1978 to proactively address the
issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse against Asian and Pacific Islander (API)
women and children. The mission of CPAF is to build healthy and safe communities by addressing
the root causes and consequences of family violence and violence against women. CPAF is
committed to meeting the specific cultural and language needs of Asian-Pacific women and their
families.

Summary Statement: Program Associate (PA) works closely with the Intervention Team to
ensure an effective and coordinated response to families in crisis who reside at the Emergency
Shelter (ES). PA is responsible for developing and implementing supportive services for ES
residents. PA also provides emotional support and case management to ES residents. PA provides
shelter coverage, responds to hotline calls, and works evenings and weekends as needed. PA
receives support and guidance from the Emergency Program Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:


 Direct Services:
Facilitates and coordinates women’s and children’s program activities. Works closely with the
Intervention team to welcome new families into ES. Provides transportation; conducts shelter
orientation and initial intake; assesses immediate and physical needs of the residents; provides
emotional support; maintains up-to-date documentation of provided services. Provides case
management and counseling to children.

 Program Development:
Develops, implements, and evaluates supportive services for ES residents. Supports in
recruitment and training of interns and volunteers. Works closely with interns and volunteers to
implement supportive services.

 Teamwork:
Provides evening hotline and ES coverage. As needed, responds to crisis
situations/emergencies; purchases food and shelter supplies for ES residents; represents agency
in coalition and community networking meetings; conducts outreach; participates in
organizational development activities and provides support to other program and agency needs
as they arise.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:


• Comfortable dealing with issues surrounding domestic violence, family violence and sexual
assault as they affect women and children.
• Able to address crisis and problem solve.
• Able to work in a flexible, evolving environment and willing and able to work evenings and
weekends.
• Enjoys and has experience working with women and children of different ages.
• Committed to eliminating violence against women, sexual violence and family violence.
• Understands and appreciates Asian/Pacific Islander cultures; is able to work with diverse
communities (gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, age, class, etc.)
• Bilingual/bi-cultural in API languages preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working with volunteers or being a volunteer.
• Able to work collaboratively with CPAF teams and community based organizations.
• Well-organized, self-directed, able to coordinate multiple tasks and highly motivated.
