Loads sliding off trucks. All loads properly secured and checked before driving to
new location.
Trucks are stuck because of lack of support under Correct preparation of location and access roads with
tires. compacted sand and gravel. Use of escort vehicles with
flashing lights for guiding large and slow moving trucks.
Depending on situation might use 1 or 2 vehicles.
Determine convoy transport or individual transport and
indicate on plan.

3 Use of escort drivers
Loads toppling over because of lack of support under
tires on one side of the vehicle only.
Road accident due to lack of correct control by escort
drivers.
Correct preparation of location and access roads with
compacted sand and gravel. Additionally, the loads have to
be well secured (proper lashing) on the trucks to allow for
the bed of the truck not being completely level.
Pre-determine exact route to be taken by transport. Pre-
scout route with escort drivers. Ensure that all escort
drivers know exactly what their duties entail concerning
their position.

Road accident due to escort vehicles coming into
contact with transportation trailer or cab.
Pre-define to escort drivers the minimum distance that
they can have between their vehicles and the trailer or cab
clearly. Conduct a TBT for the escort drivers before
commencement, outlining the journey management plan.
Provide defensive driving course for all escort drivers.
