TITLE: Family ties

LESSON AIMS:

1. To introduce the vocabulary related to family and the royal family: grandchildren,
grandparents, brother/sister, queen, royal, Head of State, duke, duchess, prince, etc.

2. To get students to skim and scan a text in order to extract information and use it to
answer questions related to the topic

3. To give practice in the use of the vocabulary related to the topic

4. To have students work with ease and interact with each other when working in pairs

5. To have students use have got in the correct affirmative and negative form and to give
at least 3 examples

6. To have students use the correct forms of the possessive case and give at least 3
examples

Aim: to activate the vocabulary related to the topic


Procedure: Students read the small text from page 36
and match the dogs from exercise 1 (A-C) to their T-S 5min
owners (1-3)

Activity 3

Aim: to identify R/W statements T-S 3min


Procedure: exercise 2/ page 36
Students read the texts and then identify which of
the 4 sentences are true and which are false.

Activity 4

Aim: to get students to use the information from the T–S 3min
text in new sentences
Procedure: exercise 3/ page 36
Teacher asks the students to complete the 4
sentences with information from the text and write
them in their notebook.
Activity 5

Aim: to use the vocabulary specific to the topic


Procedure: exercise 4/ page 37 T-S 3min
Teacher asks the students to complete the 4
sentences with the appropriate words and write them
in their notebook

Activity 6

Aim: to get students to use the information given

Students will complete the sentences about the royal
family and write them in their notebook. Students

negatives forms of the verb have got and write them
on the board. Students are asked at least 3 examples.

Aim: to use the correct forms


Procedure: exercise 1 and 2/ page 38 T-S 3min
Students are asked to complete the sentences with
the correct form in their notebooks.
Activity 10

Aim: to see the difference between the short form of


the third person singular of the verbs have and be T-S 3min
Procedure: exercises 3/ page 38
Students are asked to rewrite the sentences in their
notebooks, as in the examples.

Aim: to use the correct negative form of the verb

Students are asked to rewrite the sentences in their
notebook putting the verb have got to the correct
negative form

Aim: to revise the possessive case T-S 7min


Teacher will write 4 examples of the possessive case
on the board.

“My parents’ house is a lovely house.”
“The children’s toys are in that box.”
“Mike and Amanda’s new apartment is really big.”

Teacher will write another 2 examples to explain


when we use the form of the

Students will be asked to choose the correct form of
the possessive case.
Activity 14

Aim: use the correct forms of the possessive case to


make questions T-S
Procedure: exercise 6/ page 39 5min
Teacher will ask the students to form questions and
answers as in the examples. The questions and
answers will be written in the notebooks and read
put loud.

Teacher assigns the homework by giving clear instructions and thanks the students for their
collaboration.
