COURSE DESCRIPTION & This course introduces students to some of the major theoretical developments in
OBJECTIVE : Linguistics. It seeks to familiarise students with Historicism, Structuralism,
Functionalism, Generativism and a few other theories of linguistics to help them
develop an understanding of the different approaches to the study if language.

What is linguistics? Is Linguistics a science? The scope of linguistics. Different areas of
linguistic study.

2. What is Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the use of another person’s ideas, information, or exact words in your
own writing without properly acknowledging your source in accordance with a

receive an F grade.
