I am an Architectural Design 9 student for the 1 st semester of AY 2018-2019, intending to do a Thesis

under the category of Institutional and Community Architecture and Planning. My intended thesis
proposals are as follows:

1. Community Housing Over the Sea for Badjao Ethnic Group Migrated in Manila
(CAVITE)
2. Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Soldier (BATANGAS)
3. Orphanage for homeless street children (TAGAYTAY)

The proposals listed above are ranked according to personal preference and assessment of feasibility
of data collection and project completion. Attached to this letter are the executive summary of these
proposals.

In the same manner, I would like to request to be assigned to any of the following faculty members as
their Thesis Advisee:

Proposed Thesis Topic 1: Community Housing Over the Sea for Badjao Ethnic Group
Migrated in Manila (CAVITE)

Introduction
Badjao or also known as the “sea gypsies” are traditionally found in the southern part of the
Philippines. Their common way of living is by fishing since they live on the bounties of the sea. Due to
extreme poverty, they were forced to migrate to the northern part of the Philippines specifically in Metro
Manila and Cavite. They’re hoping to have an easier life but it turns out to be the opposite of what they
expected. Most of the badjaos are begging for alms, doing odd jobs and is under constant threat from
authorities who consider them eyesores.
To somehow ease the problem, the first proposal is about a low cost community housing
situated over the sea somewhere in Cavite for the homeless badjao ethnic group who migrated in the
Northern part of the Philippines. The reason why it is situated over the sea is because to bring back
their original lifestyle from being a homeless beggar into a sea gypsy, as well as to give them a
livelihood that might help decrease the poverty rate in the Philippines.

Statement of the Problem

The proposal intends to create a low cost community housing situated over the sea and
adopting the original lifestyle of the homeless badjao people as a sea gypsies who migrated in the
Northern part of the Philippines.

Project Objectives and Goals

 To create a community housing that will adopt the way of living of badjao people.
 To create a budget friendly community housing for badjao people.
 To create a community housing over the sea without developing any negative effects in the
environment especially in the sea.
 To form and discovered new technology and innovations that might help in developing an
environmental friendly housing over the sea.
Proposed Thesis Topic 2: Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Soldier (BATANGAS)

Introduction
Last year an unexpected battle occurred in the city of Marawi. The Armed Forces of the
Philippines and the Philippines National Police showed to the whole world their heroism and sacrifices
to give people of the Philippines peace and to solve and give end to the crisis that was happening in
Marawi that time. According to the rappler article written by Carmela Fonbuena, more than 1000 people
died in Marawi including 165 government forces and 1400 plus were wounded.
This kind of casualty gives an idea that the country needs more institution that will provide the
needs of the wounded and disabled soldier who sacrifices their life for the sake of the people of our
country. So the second proposal is about a rehabilitation centre for disabled soldier of the Philippines
located in Batangas wherein the school of basic military training was located. This project will help
disabled soldiers who fought for the country to recover from their injuries and other health related
matter due to the battle they were in.

Statement of the Problem

The proposal intends to create a rehabilitation centre that will provide all the needs for the fast
recovery of the injured and disabled soldier of the Philippines.

Project Objectives and Goals

 To produce a plan that will provide all the needs for the recovery of the injured and disabled
soldiers of the Philippines.
 To create a sustainable and innovative structure yet a cost-effective one.
 To create a rehabilitation centre that will help soldiers to recover faster by proper planning and
designing of the proposed structure
Proposed Thesis Topic 3: Orphanage for Homeless Street Children (TAGAYTAY)

Introduction
The third proposal is about an orphanage for the homeless street children located in Tagaytay
City. According to UNICEF, they estimated that there were approximately 250 000 street children in the
Philippines and the number is continuously increasing due to unemployment. These street children
mostly involve in some crimes like drug, child prostitution and sexual exploitation. Like for example, in
parks and some public areas, we often encountered barefooted and sometimes half-naked street
children begging for food. Some can be found sniffing rugby and others at a young age is holding their
own baby.
Children must be educated and not be in prison neither experience those things. They need an
institution that will help them to be educated and become a responsible individual to avoid committing
or experience these kinds of crimes.

Statement of the Problem

The proposal intends to create an orphanage that will help and educate homeless street
children to become a responsible individual.

Project Objectives and Goals

 To plan and design an orphanage with a complete facilities for the character development and
well-being of the street children.
 To create a sustainable and environmental friendly structure that may also give benefits to the
users
