Create a list of “do’s”, “don’ts”, and rules for staff in a hospital facility, based on what
you have learned about asepsis best practices.

Do’s:

1. Implement a written schedule for cleaning and decontamination.

2. All work surfaces be must cleaned with appropriate disinfectants.

3. All equipment and areas and working surfaces shall be cleaned and
decontaminated after contact with blood or other infectious substances/materials.

4. Protective coverings must be removed and replaced as soon as possible, when


they have become contaminated.

5. Broken glassware must not be picked up directly with hands; use a brush and
dustpan, tongs or forceps

Don’ts:

1. Expose staff to blood or OPIM by not using an appropriate or approved


disinfectant.

2. Bag and handle contaminated laundry without care for agitation of the
bag/clothing.

3. Allow containers to overfill, or to be transported incorrectly, be it by mishandling


or misplaced.

4. Have sharps improperly disposed of after leaving them there for a while, if at all,
into inappropriate containers (i.e. the normal trash bins).

5. Expose staff to hazardous cleaning chemicals found and used in the laundry or
housekeeping process, and then not cleaning themselves properly.
