Why Krishna never married Radha?

An Eternal Love Story (Radha Krishna)
The Radha Krishna love story is eternal and sublime. It is symbolic of the divine union between the Jivatma
and Paramatma – the individual self and the universal self. The Bhagavata story of Krishna, the cowherd
romancing Radha, the gopi is an incomparably superb mythology and a legend conquering times. Millions of
people across generations are mesmerized by the Radha Krishna love story

An Eternal Love Story (Radha Krishna)
Listening to their most enchanting love, most readers end up wondering "why didn't they end up together"?
Well, a survey about why Kirshna didn't marry Radha revealed many different thoughts coming from different
minds. Check out this very interesting discussion...

3
Bhakti Yoga
Jay Bagri says: "The idea of Radha Krishna as lovers is popular only after the Bhakti movement during the late
medieval age. The poets and romantics have given this spiritual relation a physical form, and distorted the
picture for the average viewers. In ancient prayers, "Rukmani, Satyabhama sametha Sri Krishnamasra" is what
(is) recited and there is no mention of Radha altogether."
4/32

4
Krishna's Timeline
Bagri outlines the timeline of Krishna: Appearance at midnight of Sravana k8 (July 19/20), year 3228 BC to
Devaki; taken by Vasudeva from Mathura to Nanda and Yasoda in Gokula. Till his third year lived in Gokula,
moved to Vrindavana.

5
Krishna's Timeline
From age 7-10, Brahma steals and returns cowherd boys; Govardhana puja; plays Rasa-Lila with the gopis; is
invited to Mathura for a wrestling match; Krishna kills Chanura and his brother Balarama kills Mustika; then
Krishna kills Kamsa and Balarama kills many of his brothers. from age 10-28, lives in Mathura; intiated with
Balarama into chanting Gayatri by Gargamuni; instructed with Balarama in the 64 arts by Sandipani Muni;
protects Mathura from many demons.

Krishna's Timeline
From age 29-125, Krishna establishes kingdom in Dwaraka, marries Rukmini and seven principal queens;
marries 16,100 princesses; 161,080 sons are born to Krishna; speaks Bhagavad-Gita at Kuruksetra Battle
(~90)(3138 BC); saves King Parikshit in the womb; instructs Uddhava. After 125, disappearance on February
18th, 3102 BC...
7/32

7
Childhood Sweethearts
Bagri concludes: "So, Krishna knew of the physical Radha only till Krishna was 10. He never returned to
Vrindavan after that time. There are no instances to say Radha travelled anytime to Dwaraka. Also, in South
India, there is no mention of Radha in the ancient texts. However, there are several versions to it. One version
says that they were married during childhood by Lord Brahma himself. Other than this, there are no mentions
whatsoever in any texts that Radha Krishna married each other.

8
A Spiritual Relationship from Krishna
Paul Howard has got to say about the pastimes of Sri Radha Krishna: Material existence is a perverted
reflection of spiritual activities. Krishna is the supreme enjoyer; and in material life, everyone wants to be like
Krishna in various ways, but the result is abominable.
9/32

9
A Spiritual Relationship from Krishna
Krishna's paramour relationships are the greatest spiritual excellence, but the human imitation of such a
relationship is most horrible." Radha Krishna love can never be approached from the physical parlance. It is
indeed supreme and has to be viewed as a form of devotion through which Radha approached Krishna, the
universal self.
10/32

10
Separated Self
Howard continues: "We are constitutionally Krishna's servants, and servants should never imitate the Master.
Everything is Krishna's property and naturally meant for Krishna's enjoyment, so when we imitate Krishna, it's
a crime against reality. Separation in love makes the love more intense, so Radha's not being publicly married
to Krishna, enhances their love affair. Radha is Krishna's eternally separated self, and hence their marriage is
unnecessary.
11/32

11
Love And Marriage Are Different (Radha Krishna)
Madhu Rao writes: Lord Krishna did not marry Radha to prove that Love and Marriage are two different
things...love is a selfless emotion while marriage is an agreement or arrangement... Krishna acknowledged the
divine and untainted love of Radha with His divine grace. The Radha Krishna love story is an instance of the
zealous pursuit of spirituality apringing forth eternally from the individual self towards the universal self.
12/32

12
Lover As Devotee
Prateek Kumar says: "Radha had realised that Krishna was GOD and she was in love with him as a devotee
and lost in bhaktibhav, which people mistook as physical love. (Similar to the case of Meerabai)”. Therefore
the question of Krishna marrying Radha never arises. Radha Krishna love is a relationship between the
devotees and God.
13/32

13
Krishna And Radha Are Not Separate
Prashant Jaiswal writes: Radha is not a separate individual from Krishna. You need two individuals to marry.
Lord Krishna has various types of energies - his external energy is inferior energy and it's Maya (Ma meaning
not, ya meaning which, together meaning "something which is not real).
14/32

14
Krishna And Radha Are Not Separate
His internal potency (antaranga shakti) is Radha. Radha is Krishna's energy, which pleases him and possesses
unparalleled love and devotion (to him). Therefore Radha Krishna are two different manifestatiosn fot he same
supreme divine principle. Therefore the question of Radha Krishna marriage is never appropriate since there is
no element of two there.
15/32

15
Unconditional Love between Radha Krishna
Vaishnav Charan Das answers why Krishna did not marry Radha: "To teach us mortals what is unconditional
and eternal love..." Radha Krishna relationship is never physical, but only spiritual meaning the highest form
of devotional expression by a human towards God.
16/32

16
The Highest Form of Love
Lia Dee shares: Krishna did not marry Radha "because it is the highest form of love, according to Vedic
scriptures..." Here we can never equate Radha Krishna love with those that are found elsewhere in the other
mythological stories, literature and history. It is sublime and without a parallel. Radha Krishna is an instance of
supreme emanation of divine vibrations.
17/32

17
Radha Refused Marriage?
Sanchary Ghosh writes: "According to one version, Radha refused to marry Krishna because she felt that she
would not fit in a palace. She thought no one would respect a cowgirl. People would expect Krishna to marry a
princess. Though he tried to reassure her (otherwise), she was firm in her decision..." This is one of the
interpretations given to explain why Radha Krishna never married.
18/32

18
Soul Mates
Prajakta Bhide shares: "I had read somewhere that Radha asked Krishna why he wouldn't marry her. And he
simply said: "How can one marry his or her own soul?" Though Radha is very well aware of this fact, their
conversation explains the whole of humanity that Radha Krishna are one and not different from each other in
spirit and existence.
19/32

19
Society Comes in The Way
Someone was of the opinion that it was social norms which played the villain. "Social conditions of Krishna
and Radha were not good in a way that they could marry..."
20/32

20
Spiritual Love Is Ecstatic
Elsewhere, Vraja Kishor writes: "To understand Radha correctly, you need to somewhat understand the
mysteries of "rasa" and "prema" – the ecstatic experience of spiritual love. Krishna and Radharani playfully
married once, as children sometimes do. They did not really marry, however, because their love is more
primal, profound, and unbounded than what wedded love facilitates.
21/32

21
Spiritual Love Is Ecstatic
Wedded love is a very elevated type of divine union, yet in marriage, the intimacy and spontaneity is not
limitless." Radha Krishna love is the perfect example for the zealous and burning aspiration that brings
together the devotee and God on common grounds.
22/32

22
Profound Love of Radha Krishna
Kishor continues: "Some limitation is imposed by the sense of 'duty' that husband and wife naturally acquire
towards one another. This sense of duty is beautiful, but the highest type of love is even more beautiful. It is so
profound that it requires no sense of duty – and flows absolutely spontaneously – breaking all things that stand
in its path.
23/32

23
Profound Love of Radha Krishna
Thus, the pure transcendental love that Radha Krishna enjoy on the highest level of bliss (paramānanda),
expresses itself in the form of being paramours, not husband and wife.” Hence when the relationship between a
man and woman is limited to marriage, Radha Krishna relationship transcends all definitions that are earthly,
physical and material.
24/32

24
Distant Cousins?
Vraja Kishore continues: "Radharani is the daughter of Vṛṣabhānu and Kīrtidā. Krishna is the son of Yaśodā
and Nandā. Vāsudeva Krishna, a little different, is the son of Devakī and Vasudeva. There may be some distant
relationship which would make Rādhā and Krishna cousins. But Krishna’s mother Yaśodā has so much
motherly affection for Sri Rādhā that she treats her exactly like her own daughter, or you can say, exactly like
her own "daughter-in-law."
25/32

25
Marriage Unnecessary
In another discussion, Awal Garg writes: Krishna and Radha were attached to each other mentally. That's why
we say Radhe-Krishna and not Rukmini-Krishna. Rukmini had done a lot of work to acquire Krishna. She had
gone against her brother Rukmi because Rukmani, like Radha, was in love with Krishna. Rukmini sent a letter
to Krishna that he should come and take her away.
26/32

26
Marriage Unnecessary
The letter was composed of 7 glistening slokas. They touched Krishna's heart and he had to accept Rukmini's
plea and make her his first wife. The marriage of Radha and Krishna, on the other hand, doesn't really matter
because they were bound by eternal love. Krishna and Radha moved with each other when Krishna was a boy
of less than eight.
27/32

27
Marriage Unnecessary
After that Radha Krishna never met again in their life time. Even as a child Radha was very well aware of
Krishna’s divinity and hence she carried Krishna’s memories in her heart till the end. This is the beauty of their
relationship.
28/32

28
A Curse Kept The Lovers Apart (Radha krishna)
Jabahar says: "Lord Krishna and Radha are eternal lovers who dwell in Goloka. As per BrahmaVaivarta
Purana, before the manifestation of their time on earth, Radharani had a heated argument with Shridama, the
personal attendant of Krishna. Radharani got angry and cursed Shridama to take birth as a demon.
29/32

29
A Curse Kept The Lovers Apart
Shridama, in turn, cursed Radharani to be born as a human who, after her pastimes with Krishna in Gokula,
would get separated for 100 years from her beloved lover. The curse was responsible for Radha to feel the
pangs of separation from Krishna which tormented her throughout her lifetime after separating from Krishna
when Krishna was just eight years old.
30/32

30
Happily Ever After
Jabahar quotes: "Manuṣyā iva kopaste tasmātvaṃ mānuṣī bhubi bhaviṣyāsi na saṃdeho mayā śaptā
tvamambike [BVP - 4.3.103], meaning: "You are getting angry like a human, hence you'll become a human.
31/32

31
Happily Ever After
You'll become a human without any doubt due to my curse" and "Gokule prapya taṃ kruṣṇaṃ vihariṣyasi
kānane bhavitā te varṣaśataṃ vicchedo hariṇā saha punaḥ prapya tamīśaṃ ca golokamājamiṣyasi [BVP -
4.3.105,106], meaning, "In Gokula, getting the company of Krishna, you will enjoy pastimes in the forest.
Then, you'll experience a separation of 100 years from Hari. After that, you'll again get His company and
return to Go-loka."

32/32

32
Final words on Radha Krishna
Radha Krishna love can never be approached from any earthly definitions and explanations. It is unparalleled
and a startling example for the human race to proclaim the supreme union between the human and divine.
Radha Krishna divine love stands in our memories forever guiding and inspiring the journeys of humans
towards realizing their inner divinity. In this regard, we have a matchless and mesmerizing story that stands out
conquering times. It is a beacon light to our spiritual life.

There are many stories about Radha though Mahabharata is silent about her... In some stories, Radha is said to have

Lord Krishna was avatar of Lord Vishnu and Radha was avatar of Goddess Laxmi. So they are already representation
of commitment and love. Marriage is just the materialistic representation of these two to meet the society needs.Lord
Krishna and Radha were born in human forms and were enclosed in Karma chakra which you carry from one form of
life to another. Lord Krishna was born to explain the importance of Karma when we are living in this world. He himself
had to be in the chains of Karma to let the world understand its importance. Lord Krishna and Radha had to part from
each other because they were chained with the boundaries set by Karma. Ramayan is a very good illustration of Lord
Vishnu past life stories where Lord Ram avatar of Lord Vishnu and Mata Sita avatar of Lord Laxmi had to part from
each other due to decision taken by Lard Rama to part from Lord Sita to fulfill the societal needs. Karma is not bound
by any chains and religion. Any deed that makes the world beautiful or ugly puts you in the category of good karma or
bad karma which will become your part and will determine what happens to you in future.

Home Slideshows Reason Why Lord Rama Asked Sita To Go Through Agni Pariksha?

Reason why Lord Rama asked Sita to go

through Agni Pariksha?
SHRUTI SRIVASTAVA, JUN 06, 2017 08:24PM 480K 28

1/13
1
Truth behind Sita's Agni Pariksha
I can vouch that almost 95% of the Indians at some point in life may have heard or read about the famous
Hindu mythological legend, Ramayana; and might be aware of the highlighted events such as Rama’s birth,
Rama-Laxman-Sita’s exile, Sita’s abduction, Ram-Ravana war, etc.

2/13

2
Valmiki Ramayan
The original Ramayana by Valmiki is written in the form of poetic verse (shlokas), narrating the life of
legendary prince of Ayodhya, Lord Rama. It is believed that the scripture was authored based on information
provided by Rama’s wife Sita, during her banishment from Ayodhya.
3/13

3
Life events of Lord Rama
The information (Sanskrit texts) was translated later in Hindi and other languages, with an aim to spread the
ideal values, morals of Treta Yuga amid mankind. Ramayana isn’t the only or exclusive scripture that
mentions the life events of Lord Rama, several other sacred texts have mentions of tales and folklores that are
linked with the life and journey of Lord Rama and Ayodhya.
4/13

4
Padma Purana
One such scripture, Padma Purana, carries about 55,000 verses, some of which have mentions of important
events that actually happened in Ramayana, in the absence of Sita (after her abduction); contradicting some
beliefs that have been deep-rooted until know.
5/13

5
Sita's Agni Pariksha
If the fragment of information mention in Padma Purana is to be quoted than the real reason behind Sita’s Agni
Pariksha comes to the surface. According to it, there were two Sitas; one real and one maya.

6
Sita's abduction
We all know how Lanka King Ravana, tricked Sita under the disguise of a sage and forcefully abducted her
and how she was kept in the Ashok Vatika in Sri Lanka, until Lord Rama fought and defeated Ravana to
procure his beloved Sita.
7/13

7
Lord Rama asks Sita to prove her purity
But the event, where Lord Rama asks Sita to prove her purity and loyalty, by undergoing the Agni Pariksha
(the fire test); and why despite proving her pious self publicly, she was banished from Ayodhya and Lord
Rama’s life, till date remains unexplained.
8/13

8
No relation to Sita’s Agni Pariksha and her abandonment
If the texts from Padma Purana are to be believed, then there is no relation to Sita’s Agni Pariksha and her
abandonment by Lord Rama. In fact, it suggests that Lord Rama knew about the Maya Sita.
9/13

9
Sita prays to Lord Agni
The story goes like this; Treta Yuga was an era, where no harm can come to a person who is righteous. Ravana
disguised as a sage, came to abduct Sita; he didn’t know that Sita was an human incarnation of Goddess
Laxmi, who already knew of his intentions. Knowing that both her husband and brother-in-law would not
make it to save her on time, she repeatedly prayed to Lord Agni, the god of fire to immolate herself.
10/13

10
Agnidev hides real Sita
Moved by Sita’s loyalty and her devotion, Lord Agni instead produced an illusion of Sita out of fire, replacing
the real Sita; who was kept safe within the flame of fire. With no knowledge of it, Ravana Abducted Sita and
took her with him to Lanka.
11/13

11
Lord Rama's righteous decision
Even though Lord Rama, the incarnation of Vishnu was aware of this, the entire time, he fought with Ravana
in order to fulfil his ‘karma’ and establish the true ‘dharma’; and also relieving Ravana of the curse from his
previous life.
12/13

12
The Agni Pariksha
After Sita was safely rescued, Lord Rama, request Maya Sita to return to fire and bring back the real Sita.
During the Agni Pariksha, the real Sita emerged, who remained untainted by Ravana’s touch.
13/13

13
Other mentions of Maya Sita
Several references of Maya Sita and the story related to it can be seen in Brahmavaivarta Purana and many
others.

Very nice article. We worship idols as the specimen of God. Even Ramakrishna Paramahans who was at the peak of
spirituality was worshiping Kali Matha's idol. Worship God through idols but think God himself is before you, you
apply, be open with him, tell all your shortcomings with him. He will definitely listen to you as he is Omniscience,
