General Model RAMC-Series

Metal Short-stroke Rotameter®

Specifications

Rotameters operate on the principle of generating a

condition of dynamic balance within the flow meter in which
a float is positioned in accordance with the flow through the
flow meter. The position of the float is magnetically trans-
mitted to the indicator.
The short-stroke Rotameter allows the measurement of
high flow rates using a relative short metering tube. It is a
stainless steel armoured construction for the safe measure-
ment of a variety of liquids, gas and steam.
It’s special application is for hazardous, dangerous or
aggressive fluids, for high temperatures and high pressure
rates. The instrument is mounted in a vertical pipeline with
flow direction upwards.

FEATURES
● Different process connections like flanges
according to DIN and ASME
● All wetted parts in stainless steel
● Different linings for aggressive fluids
● Maximum flow 0.025 - 130 m3/h water resp.
0.75-1400 m3/h air (20°C, 1.013 bar abs.)
● Accuracy class 1.6 resp. 2.5 with lining
according to VDI/VDE 3513
● Conically forged and linearized tube
● Optional floatdamping to avoid vibrations of compres-
sions with gas applications
● Optional heating jacket for steam or liquid heat carrier
● Indicator housing in stainless steel, aluminium
or plastic of protection class IP65

local-controlling display with the following featu-
res:
● Flow indication (totalizer, percent, actual)
● Indication of different volume and massflow units
● Second (manual) calibration storing
● Patented float blocking indication function

a) No heat jacket possible (option /T…).

b) Calculated pressure drop caused by the float.
c) Limitation of the linear scaling. Up to these values no influence of viscosity on the specified maximum flowrate.
d) This cone/float combination shows always viscosity dependency.
e) Flow at reference conditions 20 °C and 1.013 bar abs.
f) Flow US gallons per minute (reference condition 70 °F).
g) Flow converted to 0 °C and 1.013 bar abs. when operated at 20 °C and 1.013 bar abs.
h) Flow in standard cubic feet per minute converted to 60 °F and 14.7 psia when operated at 70 °F and 14.7 psia.
i) Specification of float type should be avoided for gas applications.

NOTE
Pressure rating of the several process connections are mentionned for a temerature of 20°C. Shall the process temperature vary,
kindly refer to DIN or ASME allowed max process pressure as a funktion of the process temperature.

NOTES
- The recommended combinations should be preferred.
However if a lower pressure drop is necessary the
alternative combination can be selected.
- For float type V the scale is always non linear.

ADVICE FOR PROJECT WORK

- The real working pressure has to be less than the specified pressure limits of the Rotameter.

- Make sure that the wetted material is resistant to the medium.

- Ambient and operation temperature has to be less than the specified maximum value.

- If dirt accumulation is to be expected we recommend to install a bypass pipe.

- To avoid float bouncing in case of gas application notice the recommandations of VDI/VDE 3513 Sheet 3.

- To avoid mutual magnetic influence in case of a parallel design of several Rotameters take care that the
distance between the tube middle axes is not less than 300 mm. The distance to other ferrictic materials
should not be less than 60 mm.

- The strength of external magnetic fields close by the Rotameter should be approximately 0mT.
