SUBJECT: B/E AEROSPACE BUSINESS CLASS (B/C) FALCON SEAT BACKREST


BREAKOVER OPERATION

EFFECTIVITY: All B777 airplanes fitted with B/C Falcon Seats

BACKGROUND:
In-service safety reports were received concerning several B/C Falcon seat backrests failing to stay in the
upright position allowing free movement/rattling.

B/C Falcon seats installed on recently delivered B777 airplanes have a feature wherein the backrest can be
broken over to allow access to several Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) located behind the seat assembly
(such as removal of the passenger shroud closeout assembly and netting as well as perform other
maintenance functions).

This Technical Notice is issued to reiterate the above seat feature and caution maintenance personnel during
seat maintenance particularly when the backrest is operated.

RECOMMENDATION:

CAUTION: - PROTECT THE BACKREST WITH A COVER OR TARP WHEN WORKING ON THE SEAT
WHILE IT IS BROKEN OVER.
- DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE OR WEIGHT ON THE BACKREST WHILE IT IS BROKEN
OVER AS DOING SO MAY DAMAGE THE SEAT.
- DO NOT LEAVE THE BACKREST IN THE BROKEN OVER POSITION FOR EXTENDED
PERIODS OF TIME AS DOING SO MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE BACKREST
DRESS COVER.

Seat Backrest Breakover Operation (Refer to CMM 25-26-37):

1. Unzip the cover between the passenger backrest and bottom.

2. Disengage the locking pins by pulling the upper key/split ring (Refer to Figure 1).

3. Break the seat back over.

Seat Backrest Breakover Restoration (Refer to CMM 25-26-37):

1. Extend the seat fully (into bed mode) and ensure there are no obstructions (such as shroud covers/FOD
between the frame and/or backrest break mount, etc.) behind (Refer to Figure 2 for typical obstructions).

2. Bring back the seat to TTOL position.

3. Slightly lift the backrest and push downward with slight pressure towards the slot on the backrest frame
assembly, and ensure the locking pins are fully/properly engaged (Refer to Figures 3 and 4).

NOTE: Ensure that the locking pins are fully/properly engaged on both the LH and RH sides (Refer to
Figure 5). A soft 'Click' sound will be heard when the pins are fully/properly engaged. Failure
to fully/properly engage the locking pins will prevent the seat backrest to stay in the upright
position allowing free movement/rattling.

4. Carry out a physical check (push/pull) of the backrest and ensure there is no free movement.

5. Check and ensure satisfactory seat operation.
