Lesson Plan- La Selva y El Desierto

Grade: Pre-k
Unit/Subject: Geography
Name of the lesson: Comparando La Selva y El Desierto
Approximate time: 30-45 minutes
Teak:(5) Geography. The student understands physical and human characteristics of place. The
student is expected to: (A) identify the physical characteristics of place such as landforms,
bodies of water, natural resources, and weather; and

Objective:
A Students
B Will be able to compare and contrast La selva y El Desierto
C this will be after doing a double bubble thinking map
D they will be tested by coloring one of their favorite animals and adding to the background
some of the animals habitat characteristics.

Materials needed:

● Picture
● colors/markers
● Video from la selva and el desierto
● presentation
● Double bubble map

Anticipatory Setting (attention getter):

● Who remembers what the selva is?


● Who can tell me something about El Desierto?
● Nombren uno de los animales del desierto y la seva
● “Alguien a ido a la selva”
Opening:

● Discuss the differences from what the kids have told me. I will either correct them or go
into a deeper conversation.
● Name some of the desert and selvas animals
● Teach them a fun fact of both.

Instructional input:

● I will show them a video of both the selva and the desert and as the video goes I will
point out some of the characteristic of each one.

Modeling:

● I will use a picture of a desert and La Selva and name some the characteristics that are
not present and present.

Guided practice:

● I will use the students concepts of what the Desert and Selva and placed them where
the go in the bubble map. They will choose where it belongs if the jungle or desert side.

Independent practice:

● They will be given a picture to color and add a background to demonstrate the
environment of where the animal lives.

Assessment:

● They will be able to explain who their animal is that they colored and what they drew and
why. Did they show a tree for the jungle or a cactus for the desert? Did they draw some
of their animals friends? Did the picture correlate to their living habitat?

Clouser:

● Discuss the two different environments.How they differ and how there alike.
Sponge:

● Once the student is done, they practice their numbers by drawing animals and writing
down hoe many they have next to it. It will be done behind their page they colored.
