Maths rotations addition and subtraction

LI: to be able to solve simple addition and subtraction equations in games

Explicit teaching/ tune in:

 Whole class game: circle wars of addition and subtraction. A student stands up behind
someone and those 2 must battle it out to see who gets the correct answer. The teacher will
provide questions. If they get it wrong they will sit down and the other person will stand up
and move around the circle until they get the question wrong.
 Here I will explain to students about the four rotations
 I will remind them to use their strategies

Individual task:

G1:

 will use the maths websites to practice their games on the ipads/laptops
 http://www.mathplayground.com/index_addition_subtraction.html

G2:

 Students will play addition and subtraction flip

 2 cards are flipped over by the teacher in charge of that group
 Then one addition or subtraction sign is pulled out
 The first person to get the answer correct wins that round
 Note: if it is subtraction reminder to put the higher number first
 Students must write down their answer and get it checked first

G3:

 Addition and subtraction bingo

 Students will flip over the cards with the equation on them
 They will have about 1 minute to have a go at the equation
 They will mark off the answer if they have it on their cards
 The students to mark off 6 answers will say bingo
 A teacher will come over and check their answers
 If they have not got bingo they must sit out for the rest of the round until someone else has
got bingo
