IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER
1. Examination starts at 8 AM on the day of the exam.
2. Candidates will be provided with a blank paper and clip board to write during the case history 3. Each candidate will be given 40 Minutes for the long case and 20 Minute each for the short case 4. No textbook, electronic devices, reference sources, preformatted notes allowed during the case or within the examination hall. 5. Approved and printed thesis book need to be submitted and a presentation of the thesis is mandatory for each student 6. Completed and signed log-book need to be submitted. 7. The discussion for Long case will be around 30 minutes and short case discussion is for 10 minutes each. 8. During the case presentation: ( Both Long & Short cases) a. Present Clinical History in Systematic Fashion and Logical Fashion b. Establish the correct facts from clinical history c. Provide evidence of having undertaken a focused and systemic physical examination d. Establish correct findings on physical examination e. Ability to suggest appropriate investigations in logical fashion to establish the diagnosis f. Ability to establish relevant diagnosis along with differential diagnosis g. Establish an appropriate set of acute management strategies for the specific case being undertaken h. Exhibit an ability to communicate with senior collegues in a clear, well paced fashion. 9. During the presentation, candidates should provide a comprehensive history of the presenting complaint, past history, social history, medication history, systematic questioning, findings on physical examination and a summary of active and inactive problems. Following this, the examiners will ask questions on issues of direct relevance to the patient being discussed. This could include interpretation of results and discussion of the current or possible future treatment. MASTERS IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE PRACTICAL EXAMINATION FORMAT 10. Viva-voce: 50 Marks Equipment: 12.5 Marks Can include all the airway and resuscitation equipment available in the department Drugs: 12.5 marks can include all the emergency drugs and antidotes and test whether candidate have ability to recognize the use of the drugs with dose, mechanism of action and adverse reactions Spotters: 12.5 marks can include ECG, Chest X ray, CT Scan, MRI Scan and important clinical findings and test whether candidate have ability to identify and manage the condition. Megacode: 12.5 marks: give resuscitation scenario and test the ability of candidate to play the role as team leader and assess the team dynamics. 11. Thesis work : carries 25 marks and assessed for relevance of topic in clinical practice, relevant statistics and appropriateness of the thesis, and presentation of the thesis. 12. Log-book: 25 Marks. Assessed for appropriateness for day to day activities carried for last 3 years and exposure to the case-mix, number of procedures performed will be assessed.
