MANUAL DE INSTRUCCIONES
SECCIONALIZADOR AUTOMÁTICO
MI.2.004.ML.L 09/11
1. GENERALIDADES
INAEL no

AUTOMATIC SECTIONALIZER
MI.2.004.ML.L 09/11
1. GENERALITIES
Please, read this instruction manual in its entirety before starting the installation. INAEL does not assume
any responsibility, if the sectionalizer is not suitably installed.
This instruction manual comprises any possible contingency that could take place during a normal
equipment installation. Difficulties that are not observed in this instruction manual could arise in special
installations, in such a case you must contact INAEL.
These equipments must be installed by qualified staff and under the security practices required for works
involving high voltage equipments. This instruction manual has been written for the professional people
mentioned previously, it is not a substitute for a complete training and experience regarding the safe
manipulation of these kind of equipments.
2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
2.1 Description
The INAEL automatic sectionalizer constitutes a radical revolution in the field of the protection of
derivations and branches in overhead distribution electrical systems. It is a completely self-contained device
designed for use with automatic circuit breakers.
The sectionalizer is supplied completely equipped with an actuator ready for being used in any expulsion fuses
base.
There are three sectionalizer models, SEIN/SEINTI for single-phase applications and SIT/SITI for
three-phase applications. In three-phase models, communication among sectionalizers takes place via radio, so
that, the 3 SIT/SITI must have the same communication code for their right operation.
Recent statistical studies show that, approximately, the 90% of the times that expulsion fuses placed
on overhead lines operate, happen in answer to transitory short-circuit, like electric storms, contacts with
branches of trees, etc. Also, it is known that the cost in manpower for each replacement of the melted fuse
could be similar to the cost of a new Cut-Out.
INAEL automatic sectionalizers provide an economic solution to this problem, assuring the effective
isolation of a derivation, in the case of a local permanent fault, staying inert in the face of transitory currents
that take place, approximately, the 90% of the occasions.
Quality Control
The most demanding quality control procedures, established in every manufacture phase, guarantee
the maximum reliability and consistency in the features of INAEL products.
2.2 Application
The sectionalizers must be used together with an automatic switch, located at the line head, with
capacity of several reconnections. The number of reconnections will be equal to the number of counts preset
on the sectionalizer, minimum. The time during which, the automatic circuit breaker maintains the circuit open
should be clearly less than the sectionalizer reset time.
The most useful actuating currents are, probably those between12 and 63A. This allow protection
from derivations with total three-phase loads between 100 and 1250 kVA at 20 kV. In SEINTI/SITI models
the actuating current is incremental, it means, variation in a time higher than the established value.
The recommended actuating current should be at least two times the value to the current rating of full
load.
-3-
INSTRUCTION MANUAL
AUTOMATIC SECTIONALIZER
MI.2.004.ML.L 09/11
The device operation is achieved due to an internal capacitor discharge on a small relay that makes a
holding ratchet turn and unlocks the conductive carrier tube, bringing about its fall, in a way very similar to the
expulsion fuse-holder one.
The sectionalizer starts operating again by a manual resetting, no parts have to be changed.
The complete action to put into operation a device that has already acted, will take less time than changing a
fuse link in a CUT-OUT, because the sectionalizer operation is quite more simple. Moreover, this work will take
place once with a sectionalizing instead of the 10 times that it would be necessary with a fuse link as it
operates in answer to transitory short-circuits about the 90% times.
The logic circuit is designed to be inhibited from operating against transformer magnetization currents.
Sectionalizers in healthy derivations do not operate in the presence of this kind of currents, that follow the
sequences of repeated actions from the head switches.
In practice, any fault in a derivation persisting for several seconds will activate the sectionalizer and
this way, the derivation will be isolated from the rest of the line.

5. INSTALLATION
The minimum requirements that the place for installation must combine are established by Rules in
A.T. in I.T.C MIE RAT 15 in Spain or in similar rules that are applicable in the receiver country.
By INAEL three-phase sectionalizer, the three sectionalizers must have the same communication
code and in that way, at a certain point, the simultaneous opening of the three phases takes place.
Moreover, if an INAEL three-phase SIT/SITI sectionalizer assembly is to be installed within a distance
shorter than 10 m from another INAEL three-phase SIT/SITI sectionalizer assembly, previously installed,
both, must have different communication code to avoid interferences.
Safety belt
Insulating gloves
Standardized pole
Face shield
o To prevent any water entry that could damage the equipment functionality, the
sectionalizing must not be left open for long periods on the bases.
5.2 Assembly
Assembly will take place according to the given instructions. If the assembly does not follow them,
INAEL will not assume faults that could arise during its operation and its consequences.
Expulsion fuse cut-outs can be transformed into sectionalizers if the fuseholder is substituted for
the sectionalizing tube. This transformation is guaranteed on INAEL bases type Cut-out, and any other
that could be interchangeable.
a) Fix the sectionalizer base as it is shown in the instruction manual corresponding to the INAEL Cut-
out type installation.
b) Make electrical connections. Ensure the metal brush for aluminium conductors and apply a surface
treatment to prevent oxidation before inserting the conductors in the base contacts.
5.3 Resetting
When the sectionalizer memory counts the number of zeros (2 or 3) for which it has been
programmed, it sends out an order to liberate a click-stop device, and it brings about the sectionalizer
opening in a way similar to the expulsion fuse one.
Its resetting takes place when the click-stop device is locked again following next steps:
