Clippers Acquire Carmelo Anthony from Knicks

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Clippers today acquired 10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo
Anthony from the New York Knicks in exchange for Wesley Johnson, Alan Anderson and the
Clippers’ first round draft picks in 2020 and 2021.

Anthony, 33, has been selected for the NBA All-Star Game for the last eight consecutive seasons
(2010-17) and also made the event from 2007-08. The 6’8” forward earned the NBA scoring
title in 2013 with an average of 28.7 points, and he has been named to an All-NBA Team six
times (Second Team 2010, 2013, Third Team 2006-07, 2009, 2012). Anthony made the NBA
All-Rookie First Team in 2004 and was chosen as the NBA Rookie Challenge MVP in 2005. He
has also been recognized as the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year three times (2006,
2008, 2016).

This past season, Anthony, who was born in Brooklyn, started 74 games for the Knicks,
averaging 22.4 points on 43.3 percent shooting, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.5
blocks in 34.3 minutes. He scored 20 points or more in 43 games, had seven double-double
performances and ranked among the league leaders in 2-point field goals with 451 (20th).

The veteran brings 10 years of postseason experience to the Clippers. In 66 career playoff games
(all as a starter), Anthony has averaged 25.7 points on 41.7 percent shooting, 7.3 rebounds, 2.8
assists, 1.3 steals and 0.3 blocks in 39.1 minutes. He scored 25 or more points in six consecutive
playoff games in 2009 and has tallied two or more double-double performances in a row in the
playoffs on four different occasions (2007-08, 2010-11).

As a member of every United States Olympic men’s national basketball team since 2004,
Anthony has captured three Olympic Gold Medals (2008, 2012, 2016) and one Bronze Medal
(2004). His four appearances on the team is a record, and he is the team’s all-time leader in
games played (31), points (336), field goals made (113), rebounds (125) and free throws made
(53).

An alumnus of Syracuse University, Anthony led the school’s men’s basketball team to its first
NCAA national championship in 2003 as a freshman in what would be his only collegiate
season. His scoring (22.2) and rebounding (10.0) averages both ranked in the top 20 in the
NCAA that season. Anthony was also the consensus pick for NCAA National Freshman of the
Year and named Second-Team All-American by the Associated Press.
Originally selected by the Denver Nuggets with the third overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft,
Anthony played for the team until he was traded in the middle of his eighth season to the Knicks
in February 2011. During his 14-year career, he has played 976 regular season games (all as a
starter) and averaged 24.8 points on 45.2 percent shooting, 6.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.1 steals
and 0.5 blocks in 36.2 minutes. Among active players, Anthony ranks fifth in field goals (8,616)
and points (24,156), as well as fourth in 2-point field goals (7,444) and free throws (5,752).

“We are excited to bring such an accomplished player to the Clippers organization,” Clippers
President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank said. “We have been looking to add another
experienced and consistent scorer, and Anthony fills that void. We have a lot of good seasoned
players, so this latest acquisition should make our team even more competitive in the fight to win
an NBA championship.”

Johnson was selected as the fourth overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Minnesota
Timberwolves and played for them his first two seasons. He went on to play for the Phoenix
Suns and Los Angeles Lakers before signing with the Clippers in July 2015. During his time
with the Clippers, Johnson played 148 regular season games and averaged 5.0 points, 2.9
rebounds and 0.5 assists. He also played an average of 9.8 minutes in nine postseason games for
the team.

Anderson has played 330 regular season games in the NBA since he signed as a free agent with
the Charlotte Bobcats in August 2005. He also played for the Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets
and Washington Wizards before signing with the Clippers in August 2016. In his lone season
with the team, Anderson played in 30 regular season games and averaged 2.9 points and 0.8
rebounds in 10.3 minutes.
