Opening Prayer
(Picture 4) Explain that after all the other things were created, Adam and Eve were
created. Tell about the creation of people, as found in Genesis 1:26–28. Adam and Eve
were the first two people to live on the earth. They had bodies of flesh and bones that
looked like Heavenly Father’s body.
In the Garden of Eden they were innocent and lived in God’s presence.
After Adam and Eve received physical bodies, they lived in a beautiful place called the
Garden of Eden. Fruits and flowers grew easily in the Garden of Eden, and all the
animals were tame. Adam and Eve could eat fruit from every tree except one. (Scripture
reference Genesis 2:15-25, 3) Obeying this commandment meant that they could stay
in the Garden of Eden but they could not progress because they would not know
opposition. They could not know joy because they could not experience sorrow and
pain.
Because they partook of the forbidden fruit, they were cast out of the garden and
became mortal, were able to have children and were subject to sin and death.
Satan tempted Adam and Eve to eat of the forbidden fruit and they chose to do so.
Because of this choice they were cast from the garden and out of God’s physical
presence. This even is called the Fall. Adam and Eve had to work hard to get food,
weeds began to grow, and animals became wild. They could now tell good from evil,
which made it possible for them to learn and progress. And it made it possible for them
to make wrong choices and sin.
(Picture 5) In addition, Adam and Eve could now have children so the rest of Heavenly
Father’s spirit children could come to earth, obtain physical bodies and be tested. Only
in this way can we progress and become like Heavenly Father.
