1. Introduction of Taiko Force LV5

Taiko Force LV5 is a well-designed game controller for Taiko Drum Master.This
self-made device has nearly the same play experience with the arcade edition device
of Taiko Drum Master.

The development of this device has lasted for more than 4 years and it meets the
harsh requirements of many Taiko Drum Master fans. I'm loving this game and I
devoted myself to the improvements of this Taiko Drum Master controller.

Taiko Force LV5 is much different from the official Taiko Drum Master home
controller. The features of Taiko Force LV5 included the following:
(1) Arcade specification: Taiko Force LV5 weights around 7 kg. The diameter and
thickness are 43 cm and 10 cm respectively. It uses the same rubber drum skin as the
official arcade one.
(2) High sensitivity: The application of a self-made shock sensor system makes
Taiko Force LV5 more easily to control. You can use your own drumstick beat this
drum lightly without missing a note. You can even use your hands to tap it.
(3) Multi-platform support: Taiko Force LV5 can be used on PS4, Wii/WIIU, PS4
and PC (Taikojiro).
(4) Easy to use: You can simply regard Taiko Force LV5 as a normal joystick or
keyboard and connect it to PS4, Wii/WIIU and PC Taikojiro. Taiko Force LV5
connects the PS4 with a type B USB cable.
(5) Long durability: In fact, two of the Taiko Force LV5 controllers (connecting
the Nitendo WIIU) has placed in a game center.
It works well and stands the time trial in the game center for more than two years.
The manufacture of one Taiko Force LV5 controller takes a period of about 10 days.

Taiko Force LV5 has two kinds of electrical control boxes. One is for connecting
PC\Wii\WiiU: Basic E-box (Figure.1). The other kind is used for connecting PS4/PC:
PS4 E-box (Figure.2). Please install the wooden support as Figure.3

2. The usage of PS4 E-box:
When the Drum is connected with PS4 E-box, corresponding buttons of the
drum area are shown in Figure.4.

2.1 Connection to PS4
Step 1: Plug the female socket of the drum into the male socket of the PS4 E-
box as shown in Figure.5.

Step 2: Connect PS4 and Taiko Force LV5 with a type B USB cable as shown in
Figure.6.

Step 3: Use your own PS4 joystick to enter the PS4 Taiko Drum Master game.
Step 4: Press the PS button of the PS4 E-box as show in Figure.7.

Step 5: Hit the "circle" drum area to enter the game and then you can enjoy it!
2.2 Connection to PC (Taikojiro)
Step 1: Plug the female socket of the drum into the male socket of the PS4 E-
box.
Step 2: Connect PC and Taiko Force LV5 with a type B USB cable.
Step 3: Open the software "Joytokey" by clicking the icon "JoyToKey.exe" in
the Taikojiro directory.
Step 4: Open the software "taikojiro.exe". The Drum and Space, enter, ESC
buttons of keyboard are used to control this software.

3. The usage of Basic E-box:

3.1 Connection to PC (Taikojiro)
Step 1: Plug the female socket of the drum into the male socket of the Basic E-
 box as shown in Figure.8.

Step 3: Open the software "taikojiro.exe". The Drum is recognized as a 4 keys
keyboard. The Space, enter, ESC buttons of real keyboard are also needed to
control taikojiro.
3.2 Connection to Wii/WIIU
Step 1: Plug the female socket of the drum into the male socket of the Basic
E-box.
Step 2: Plug the female socket of the remoulded Wii remote into the male socket
of the Basic E-box (Figure.10).

Step 3: Connect the Basic E-box to a 5 V mobile phone charger (Figure.11) with
type B USB cable.

Step 4: Pair the Wii remote with Wii. Some buttons of Wii remote can be only
controlled by the drum.Enter the game and you can enjoy it.

4. The picture delay and sound delay of smart TV (Very important!)

The picture delay might affect your accuracy of hit, you can adjust it in the
game menu. But the sound delay must be solved by outputing the sound signal to
stereo. The recommended solution is to make use of the PS4 digital optical audio.
I used a converter to change the PS4 digital optical audio into the matched signal
of my stereo.

5. Taiko Force LV5 beat mode

Taiko Force LV5 has two modes: Single beat mode and Double beat mode.

5.1 Single beat mode

Open the PS4 E-box and you can see 4 pins. When the 4 pins are configured like
Fig.19, the drum is in sigle beat mode. This mode works more stable but it can only
sense one beat at the same time.

5.2 Double beat mode

Double beat mode can sense the power of your beats. The 4 pins are configured
like Fig.20. Do not try other methods because it will harm the E-box!

In the arcade taiko master drum, when you beat with a strong force, it regards as
a strong beat. For the PS4 joystick, the strong beat is to press the two buttons of both
side at the same time.
For the Taiko Force LV5, when the shock sensor find two strong beats of nearly
the same force in the same colored area, it will input two buttons at the same time.
One problem will occur when the beat area is two far away from the shock
sensor. If you beat one area of the downside “Ka”, the two “Ka” sensors will sense
nearly the same force and “Ka” of both sides will input.
But we usually beat the blue area so this problem may be neglected.

5. The update of PS4 E-box

Sometimes when the PS4 system was updated, the PS4 E-box may work only for
around 8 minutes and then disconnected with PS4. When that happens，the PS4 E-box
needs to be updated. The update has a delay around 2-3 days after the release of the
new PS4 system and all update use the same online upadate software.
The update includes the following steps:
Step1: Open the Update.exe.

Step2: Open the PS4 E-box and connect the two pins as Figure.21 shows.

Step3:Connect the PS4 E-box to PC while keep pressing the PS button.

The update software will show a START icon. Click the icon the the update
will finish.
