Introduction to Goat Farming Cost and Profit:-  Well, in any farming, cost and profit depends on many
factors and if somebody gets profits in one kind of business, it does not mean that you can get as well.

Goat farming is one of the fastest growing business in India as demand for goat meat (mutton) is
increasing. Most of the people are showing interest to raise the goats or start a commercial goat farming.

practices before starting a goat farm. As a beginner you may not have an idea about cost and profit in goat
farming. You must prepare a proper goat farming business plan where you can have all the information

from buying animals to marketing. As goats are multi-purpose animals, you must have a clear idea of what
you are will be doing with goat farming. For example, goats can be raised for meat, milk (dairy), skin and

Matou, and Black Bengal. If you are planning for dairy goat farm, Saanen, Jamunapari, Toggenburg,
Anglo Nubian, and Alpine are best milk productive goat breeds

7. Make your shed/goat house ready before you get your first batch of goats

8. If you are going for complete stall feeding, make all feeder and drinkers ready in the goat house

9. Make secure fencing around the shed and provide clean water

10. If you want to grow your own green fodder to reduce the feed cost, allocate some land to grow any
cereal crops like bajra, Jowar (sorghum) any other hybrid grasses

Goat Farming Cost and Profit – Cost of Animals:- This is where you spend more money, if you are
buying in bulk, you negotiate. Don’t buy in the first attempt, go for couple of places and bargain. Buy the
goats closer to you farm so that transportation cost would be less. Let us say you are planning to buy the
following female and male goats.

Total number of female goats (does or nannies) = 60

Total number of male goats (bucks or billies) = 5

Weight of each female goat = 25 kg

Weight of each male goat = 35 kg

Total weight of All goats = 1675 kg

Price of live goat/kg = Rs.250

Price of total animal cost = 250 x1675 = 4,18,750 (Four lakh eighteen thousand and seven hundred
fifty)

Total cost = total feed cost + transport cost = 86,400 + 3600 = 90,000

Feed consume by each adult goat/day = 0.2 kg

Total feed consume by all 65 adult goats = 65 x 0.2 = 13 kg

Feed consume the day in year = 180 kg

Total Feed consume the day in year = 2340 kg

Feed cost of adult goats = 2340 kg x Rs.20 = 46,800

Total feed cost for all goats (adults and baby goats) = 46,800 + 86,400 = Rs.1,33,200

Total shelter cost = 1,60,000

Vaccination and any other medical costs = 5,000

Total cost = shelter cost + vaccination cost + labour cost + green fodder growing cost = 1,60,000 +
