MCG’s POWER SUPPLY PROPOSAL TO CARICOM SECRETARIAT

MCG’S power plant is a highly efficient, safe, and environmentally

friendly diesel power generation system utilizing two MAN diesel
generator, rated at 2.5 megawatts each, as its main generators. With
the total requirement of the Giftland’s complex being 2.1 megawatts
maximum, the plant has an excess power capability of 2.2 megawatts,
being produced at an extremely competitive cost. In addition to the
main generation sets, the plant is equipped with a 1.3 megawatt
emergency generator and a 500 kilowatts support unit. These units
combined, cater for all normal necessities and any contingencies.
The design of the power plant incorporates some innovative and state
of the art equipment, with the purposes of environmental protection
and maximum fuel efficiency in the forefront. These equipment
includes an in-house cooling tower system that is capable in excess of
all the cooling requirement of the plant, with zero environmental
impact. Coupled to our generating system, are also two waste- heat
economisers that utilizes all the excess heat generated, that will
normally be exhausted to the atmosphere, and also acts as a scrubber
to contain all soot, sulphur, etc. in special containment at the plant,
where they can be properly disposed of at certified disposal facilities.
This also greatly improves the overall efficiency of the plant by
generating an abundance of low pressure steam required to heat, treat
and clean all of the plant’s fuel, lubricating oils and other requirements.
Most importantly, a very modern monitoring and control system
ensures that generated and transmitted resources are of the highest
precisions.
By utilizing low-cost heavy fuel oil as its main combustion fuel for
power generation, coupled with the advantage of re-generative energy,
the plant is able to offer an extremely competitive tariff, which makes
it an economically effective continuous power source.
The plant is being operated by a highly experienced and competent
team that ensures that efficiency and safety are optimised at all times.
Effective systems are in place that ensures that all operations,
maintenance, etc. are of the highest standards and comply with all
regulations and recommendations. Its work permits and safety permits
systems, are to the highest international standards and are a stand out
in the local industry.
