Competency:

2.1 Leadership with Others: Effective Communication


Leadership fosters effective communication in all internal and external interaction, to establish
and maintain cooperative relationships.

Course Description:
This course focuses on application of leadership with others: effective communication. While
this class focusses on communication, it will be considered from the perspective of the
importance of leadership in the area of school, family, and community communications. The
competency paper will be a culmination of research and experiences reflecting my personal
journey using effective communication. Past, current, and future professional and personal
experiences will provide the scaffold for my reflective development. In addition, the readings
will provide a theoretical framework to be utilized now and in the future.

Purpose and Goals:


The purpose of this course is to analyze and improve my current knowledge base and self-
reflection about my own abilities in leadership with others: effective communication.

Student Learning Outcomes:

1. Explore aspects of leadership with others: effective communication within the complexity
of several personal and professional roles.
2. Discuss my uniquely Adventist perspective related to this competency.
3. Connect my learning from readings within this course to my current personal
and professional practice.
4. Discuss my past practices and professional responsibilities specific to competency 2.3.
5. Present portfolio materials to my LLG, academic advisor, and on my
Weebly professional portfolio website, at a minimum level 3.

Learning Strategies and Resources:


 The student learning outcomes will be met by reading, applying concepts from
the readings to professional practice, and reflecting on the experience.
