347 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week. We
currently have three vacancies: Sunday 1-2pm and 10-11pm and Monday 8-
9am. Everything good in your life comes from God. He gives us 168 hours
each week to use as we want to use them. “During Eucharistic Adoration,
trust that Jesus loves you and that He is pleased that you’re coming to be with
Him.” (Encountering Jesus) Please call 330-690-9661.
Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus went to the mountain for some quiet time with the disciples. When 5000 people arrived
unexpectedly, he put aside his agenda, welcomed and fed them. Jesus teaches us to be
people of hospitality who welcome the stranger and cheerfully give time and nourishment to
others.

Archbishop Hoban High School is excited to have several

students from China joining the Hoban community for the 2018-
19 academic year and is looking for great families to welcome
these students into their home for the school year. Hosting a
student can be a rich cultural experience for a family. Families
are provided a $900 monthly stipend to help with the cost of
hosting the student. Host families are only required to provide
their visiting student with their own room, all meals outside school lunches, and transportation
to/from school (the school bus is ok). Otherwise, host families are asked simply to welcome their
exchange student as part of the family and help them experience American culture! If you are
interested, please contact Kileigh Su at hostfamily@iperc.org or (330)703-1643.
Mission Sunday - August 11 & 12 - St. Augustine Church will welcome Fr. Brandon
Bigam the new pastor of St. Martha in Prestonsburg and its mission of St. Luke in
Salyersville, small parishes in the Appalachian region which depends upon the
generosity of many outside benefactors. Fr. Brandon is a new priest as of 2017 and is
excited about his first mission appeal. Established in 1988, the mission Diocese of
Lexington covers a 50 county area. Forty of those counties lay within the mountain
region of Appalachia where Catholics are less than 1% and are often met with
mistrust. Residents sometime lack basic services for daily living, education and
healthcare. The dioceses face daily challenges to provide resources and personnel to
effectively offer outreach ministries to this hidden population. Priest in the area must
serve multiple parishes and often travel 35-40 miles over the mountains to celebrate
weekend Masses. Ultimately, the Catholic presence in Appalachia would diminish
without the generous response from outside assistance.

Will you have increased income as a result of the new tax changes? Perhaps you can
consider increasing your offertory contribution to our parish. Changes in the tax law
kept in place several popular and attractive charitable gifting options. Gifting
appreciated stock (held more than 1 year) to our parish may allow you to deduct the
stock’s full value and bypass capital gains tax. Also, if you are 70 ½ or older, you may
be able to reduce your taxable income this year with a gift made directly from your IRA
to our parish. Talk to your advisor and IRA administrator for more information and be
sure the gift is made directly from an IRA to a qualified charity such as our parish.
For questions, you are welcome to contact Mary Lou Ozimek of the Catholic
Community foundation at 216-696-6525 x4070 or via email at
mozimek@catholiccommunity.org.
