ABSTRACT
The increase of the productive demand in the industries of the country merits a technological advance in the way
of transmitting the mechanical power, generating the lowest possible loss.
That is why; proposing a Mechatronic solution, the design and subsequent construction of the prototype of an
active magnetic bearing carried out. This device will serve to study the characteristics, limitations and advantages
of using a bearing with said technology, since using this type of bearings instead of conventional mechanical
bearings considerably reduces friction losses. The system developed includes three main elements, the sensor to
measure the deviation of the axis, the actuator to modify the position and the controller that will correct the errors.
For the calculation of the position, an ultrasonic type sensor was used, on the other hand, the actuator has been
built based on a solenoid on which we induced a magnetic field originated by the circulation of a current controlled
by a PWM signal, which it varies based on the distance measured between the axis and the sensor. Finally, a serial
communication has been used between the Arduino and Simulink software (MathWorks) for the realization of the
PID controller.
