Registration under GST requires a series of documents depending on the nature of

business.
PAN Card of business - The 16 digit unique GSTIN comprises of the PAN of the
business. Thus, PAN is a mandatory document for registration except in case of Non-
Resident.
Proof of Business Registration - This includes a partnership deed, incorporation
certificate or any other registration certificate
Proof of Address - This is required as a proof for the place of business of the
applicant. It includes an electricity bill, landline bill, water bill, receipt of
property tax, Rent Agreement, Lease Deed, Consent letter, NOC of the owner.
Proof of Bank Account - This is required as a proof for the bank details of the
applicant. The bank details include bank name, branch name, bank account number,
MICR Code and IFSC Code. It may be a Cancelled cheque, copy of first page of bank
passbook and copy of relevant page of bank statement.
Identity Proof, Address Proof and Photographs - The following proofs are required
for the proprietor, karta, partner, director or authorised person:
Identity Proof - Aadhar, PAN, voter id card, ration card, passport, driving license
Address Proof - Aadhar, voter id card, ration card, passport, driving license
Photographs
Other Documents - In some cases, additional documents are required:
Company - Memorandum of Association (MOA), Articles of Association (AOA), Copy of
Board Resolution
LLP - Copy of Board Resolution
Digital Signature - The application must be signed with a Class 2 Digital Signature
of the Authorised Signatory. The Authorised Signatory must be a resident in India
and must hold a valid PAN. He may be a proprietor, karta, managing partner,
designated partner, managing director, managing trustee or authorised person.

The following documents must be submitted by regular taxpayers applying for GST
registration.
PAN Card of the Business or Applicant
GST registration is linked to the PAN of the business. Hence, PAN must be obtained
for the legal entity before applying for GST Registration.
2. Identity and Address Proof along with Photographs
The following persons are required to submit their identity proof and address proof
along with photographs. For identity proof, documents like PAN, passport, driving
license, aadhaar card or voters identity card can be submitted. For address proof,
documents like passport, driving license, aadhaar card, voters identity card and
ration card can be submitted.

3. Business Registration Document
Proof of business registration must be submitted for all types of entities. For
proprietorships there is no requirement for submitting this document, as the
proprietor and proprietorship are considered the same legal entity.
In case of partnership firm the partnership deed must be submitted. In case of LLP
or Company, the incorporation certificate from MCA must be submitted. For other
types of entities like society, trust, club, government department or body of
individuals, registration certificate can be provided.
4. Address Proof for Place of Business
For all places of business mentioned in the GST registration application, address
proof must be submitted. The following documents are acceptable as address proof
for GST registration.
For Own premises
Any document in support of the ownership of the premises like latest Property Tax
Receipt or Municipal Khata copy or copy of Electricity Bill.
For Rented or Leased Premises
A copy of the valid rental agreement with any document in support of the ownership
of the premises of the Lessor like Latest Property Tax Receipt or Municipal Khata
copy or copy of Electricity Bill. If rental agreement or lease deed is not
available, then an affidavit to that effect along with any document in support of
the possession of the premises like copy of electricity bill is acceptable.
SEZ Premises
If the principal place of business is located in an SEZ or the applicant is an SEZ
developer, necessary documents/certificates issued by Government of India are
required to be uploaded.
All Other Cases
For all other cases, a copy of the consent letter of the owner of the premises with
any document in support of the ownership of the premises of the Consenter like
Municipal Khata copy or Electricity Bill copy. For shared properties also, the same
documents can be uploaded.
5. Bank Account Proof
Scanned copy of the first page of bank passbook or the relevant page of bank
statement or scanned copy of a cancelled cheque containing name of the Proprietor
or Business entity, Bank Account No., MICR, IFSC and Branch details including code.
6. Digital Signature
All application for GST registration must be digitally signed with a Class 2
Digital Signature. Hence, its important that digital signature be obtained for the
following person who is authorsised to sign the GST registration application before
beginning the application process.

For each Authorised Signatory mentioned in the application form, Authorization or
copy of Resolution of the Managing Committee or Board of Directors to be filed in
the following format:

Enter Name of taxpayer as recorded on PAN of the Business. In case of
Proprietorship concern, enter name of proprietor at Legal Name and mention PAN of
the proprietor. PAN shall be verified with Income Tax database
Provide Email Id and Mobile Number of primary authorized signatory for verification
and future communication which will be verified through One Time Passwords to be
sent separately, before filling up Part-B of the application.
Applicant need to upload scanned copy of the declaration signed by the
Proprietor/all Partners/Karta/Managing Directors and whole time Director/Members of
Managing Committee of Associations/Board of Trustees etc. in case the business
declares a person as Authorised Signatory.

The GST application must be digitally signed with Class 2 digital signature. This

Taking the case of Proof in case of Principal place of business where premises are
on rent. The above list of documents includes
Registration certificate (e.g. Certificate of Incorporation or VAT Certificate),
Partnership deed etc.
How can VAT/ROC certificate be proof of ownership or rental agreement. Please
understand that at some places in Migration application, the complete list of type
of documents is provided. You have to select the relevant one only.
In case of rented premises, documents required are :
1. Lease Agreement
2. Latest Property tax, Electricity bil Receipt etc. as proof of ownership.
Both documents should be scanned in 1 file and size should not exceed 1 MB.
Request to members to be careful about these things. Otherwise, queries will be
raised by department and then there will be unnecessary back and forth.
