Power Requirements
The LP142 operates from a 100 V to 240V AC power source at 50 Hz to 60 Hz.
No voltage selection is required, since the instrument automatically adapts to the
line voltage present.
Fuses
The power supply of the LP142 is protected against short-circuit and overload by
means of two 3.15 A/250 V AC “T”-rated fuses, located above the mains plug.
Disconnect the power cord before inspecting or replacing a fuse. Open the fuse
box by inserting a small screwdriver under the plastic cover and prying it open. For
continued fire protection at all line voltages, replace only with fuses of the specified
type and rating (see above).
Ground
The LP142 has been designed to operate from a single-phase power source, with
one of the current-carrying conductors (neutral conductor) at ground (earth)
potential. Maintain the ground line to avoid an electric shock.
None of the current-carrying conductors may exceed 250 V rms with respect to
ground potential. The LP142 is provided with a three-wire electrical cord containing
a three-terminal polarized plug for mains voltage and safety ground connection.
The plug's ground terminal is connected directly to the frame of the unit. For
adequate protection against electrical hazard, this plug must be inserted into a
mating outlet containing a safety ground contact.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Maintenance and repairs should be carried out exclusively by a LeCroy technician.
Cleaning should be limited to the exterior of the instrument only, using a damp, soft
cloth. Do not use chemicals or abrasive elements. Under no circumstances should
moisture be allowed to penetrate the disk drive analyzer. To avoid electric shocks,
disconnect the instrument from the power supply before cleaning.

Theory of Operation
4. Theory of Operation
4.1 Processor Board
HD6477034F20(SH1)
The CPU board consists of single chip RISC microcomputer SH1 of Hitachi Ltd.
SH1 has, ROM(64KB), RAM(4KB), Timer, Serial Communications Interface(SCI),
A/D Converter, Interrupt Controller, I/O port.
SH1 can access a built-in memory by the width of one state 32bit (An external bus
is width of 16bit).
The board consists of three circuit blocks.
Block of 16bit bus
CPU,MEMORY,LCDC,PRINTER I/F
Block of 8bit bus
BUS I/F,EXT CHIP SELECTOR,PCMCIA I/F,FDC,RS-232C
Block of serial bus
RTC,DC GENERATOR
Power Supply
The board requires +5V power source excluding a part of an external bus (8bit data
bus for the DMC board access).
The 8bit data bus for the DMC board access converts the level into 3.3V by using
74LVX4245(IC4).
+3.3V power source is used by the shunt regulator NJM431U(IC27) on the board.
+5V power source (two kinds for and around CPU for PCMCIA I/F) is supplied by
the MOTHER board through connector FX5-20P-SH(J5) of (HIROSE).
16bit Peripheral
There are two devices hooked on the 16bit data bus.
Controller LCDC
MEMORY system
MEMORY
Memory circuit consists of two SRAM of 4MB and one FRASH PROM of 8 MB.
SRAM
The SRAM circuit consists of two SRAM IC(IC15,IC16) of 8bit with 16bit bus.
Internal data is protected with backup battery CR2354-1NF at power source OFF.
The SRAM circuit is used as a work area for the program, various set data, the
waveform data and display memory.
FLASH PROM
FLASH PROM circuit consists of FLASH PROM(IC17) of 1MB compatible of
29F008 with 16bit bus mode. Reading FLASH PROM is the same as usual
EPROM. To erase or write to memory, commands are written into the data bus.
Writing and erasing must be performed over monitoring the status-signals (RY/#BY)
on the port (IC49). IC17 is used as a saving area of the adjustment data besides
program ROM area. The program can be rewritten through the memory card
(SRAM and FLASH, etc.) and centronics interfaces.
PRINTER I/F
8bit data bus from the LCDC for the printer control is connected with the PRINTER
board and Centronics port.
The PBUSY and PSTB signal of the IC11 are transmitted after selecting the path
(Centronics port or PRINTER board)with analog switch TC4053BF(IC12).
8bit Peripheral
There are five devices hooked on the 8bit data bus.
BUS I/F
EXT CHIP SELECTOR
PCMCIA I/F
FDC
RS-232C
BUS I/F
This I/F consists of the buffer of the address and data.
The addresses for the devices on 16bit bus are directly connected with the CPU
output.
However the addresses for the devices on the 8bit bus, low order 8bit(CA0-7) are
connected through level latch (IC6) and high order 8bit(CA8-15) through
buffer(IC5).
The level latch of the low address changes an address before the NRDZXT signal is
not activated, which prevents a malfunction of the LSI(13IC1,14IC1) on the DMC
board.
The data bus requires two power sources +3.3V, 74LVX4245(IC4), and +5V,
74VHCT245(IC7).
+5V is used for PCMCIA I/F, Super I/O, PANNEL KEY I/F, and the PRINTER board,
and +3.3V is used for the DMC board.
Signals other than the data bus of the DMC board can be directly connected to +5V.
If configuration to XC9536 does not end normally, the access of 8bit bus to the
device cannot be executed.
PCMCIA I/F
XC9536 (IC9) and CD110 (APF) chiefly generate the control signal for memory card
mode (ATA, SRAM, and FLASH) and I/O card mode (GP-IB).
74VHCT373(IC23) is level latch during read circle.
RTC
RS5C313 (IC25) is a real-time clock controlled with the serial bus from the CPU.
This chip generates the clock with connecting the crystal oscillator of special
32.768KHz internally and the interruption signal for the CPU in 1s intervals.
It is possible to keep operating with backup battery CR2354-1NF also at power
source OFF.
DC GENERATOR
The serial bus (SCK1, TXD1) of the CPU control the 16bit DA converter used for
DC GENERATOR on the ANA board.
The update of data is executed by 3ms period, and the control signals other than
data are generated by the DMC board.
Reset circuit
The M51957BFP (IC1) monitors the power voltage. Whenever the Vcc goes below
+4.72V (even for a very short time), a reset pulse (the width is determined by the
C11 and C12’s capacity) is generated.
Interrupt control
The interrupt controller is the built-in CPU.
The interrupt signal is connected as follows:
Bus Control
The decoding in the CPU produces the chip select signals of the following.
Area address device
Area 0 H'0000000 to H'0FFFFFF built-in ROM
Area 1 H'1000000 to H'1FFFFFF LCDC

DC GENERATOR demultiplexes the probe sense signal of CH1, CH2, and EXT and
sends to CPU board through TC4051BF (8IC8).
Calibration
This circuit generates the DC voltage for automatic calibration according to the
resistance division of the reference voltage, adjusted the manual operation to
3.000V, sent to the CAL terminal.
The Divided voltage is selected by TC4051BF (8IC9), is supplied to the input part of
each signal while attenuated to 1/5 through LT1097S8.
During the calibration, the Input voltage is fed to the CAL terminal, or the square
waveforms signal of 0.6V/1kHz is sent to the CAL terminal.
The Divided voltage and Input voltage as shown in the table below.
Power Supply
±5V on the boards is produced from ±6V of the Power Source unit.
The 14IC1 for CH2 becomes a master and controls the data acquisition of the start
and stop and the detection of the trigger point.
At this time, IC (13IC1) for CH1 operates only by the SWATO signal of CH2.
Data is read through the data bus of IC.
Reading independently does CH1 and CH2 respectively by the unit of 8bit.
TIM
The phase difference between the trigger signal and the sampling clock (rise time
edge of 250MCLK) is detected.
The phase difference is converted into a pulse expanded 100 times by the charge
and discharge circuit compared with 100 times current ratio, this pulse are
measured the time in CH2 DMC IC.
The calculated time is used to correct the displaying position of the waveform
during normal and equivalent sampling.
Other Control
Conversion into 5V of control signal sent from general-purpose port of DMC IC
(13IC1, 14IC1)
Generating of chip selection signal versus DMC IC
Control of contrast and TIM gain which uses 8bit DA converter (MB88346BPF)
The signal of the temperature sensor for HAD626 of CH1 and CH2 is selected
and transmission to CPU board.
Power Supply
The boards produce ±5V and -4.5V from ±6V of the Power Source unit.
Moreover, the power source of -1.7V for the PECL levels and 0.8V for HAD626, is
generated on the board, too.
The power switch is located on the secondary side (not the primary side) in order to
switch-on and -off of the outputs at the secondary side; the whole control is made
by switching on and off of the current control oscillator, which is configured with the
IC 8 and IC9. Although the power switch is placed to its off position, therefore, the
power is being fed to all the components in the power supply units (stand-by mode),
as far as this LiteRunner supply is connected to the AC outlet.
The above switching-on and -off function is actually made by shorting and opening
of the power supply output ,“REMOTE” and “GND” in the power unit.
Since the design of this LiteRunner power supply is made based on the use of
forced air cooling with the fan-motors, operating the power supply for long hours by
removing the upper and bottom covers would cause tripping of the overheating
protection circuit inside of IC9 because of the temperature rise in the unit, and will
result in the cease of power output.
Release the overheat protection circuit from its activated mode for a while by
disconnecting the AC inlet plug out of the AC receptacle.
Do not touch any electric parts inside the power supplies during operation as the
primary side of the power unit has many portions of over 500 Vrms of magnitudes to
grounding.
Operation
The fuse, F1, heat-breaks to shut down the input when an abnormal excess-current
keeps running through the input circuit. Replacing of the fuse must be made after
locating the problem area and fixing the failed parts.
The thermally sensitive resistor, TH1, limits the input rush power supply.
The diode, D1, is a bridge diode and is used for direct full wave rectification of the
AC input.
The IC8 in the HIC unit receives its operating power from the voltage of terminal
C12 and R1 adjusts the output of the driving signals (Gate Signals) for the transistor
TR1, and operates the Harmonic control power supply which consists of the choking
coil L3, diode D1, capacitors C12, etc., to obtain the sine wave input current and the
output of +380 V DC.
The variable resistor, VR1, is to adjust the output DC voltage. Adjust the voltage to
+6V DC with the VR1.
The transistor IC9 in the circuit of the switching power control generates the output
voltages by the photo couples PC1.
Normally, +5V to +6V DC is added to control input 1 pin of IC9.
The photo coupler, PC2 transmits the signal of power-on or –off to IC9. When
power-off, turn the TR2 on and make input voltage of IC9 0 V DC.
Maintenance 5-1
21302-5691 DMC Board

5.4 Troubleshooting and Flow Charts
5.4.1 Introduction
The troubleshooting information contained in this section is intended for use by
qualified personnel having a basic understanding of electronics (analog and digital).
In order to simplify servicing and minimize downtime, the following list of possible
symptoms, likely causes, and troubleshooting steps have been prepared.
The first step in troubleshooting is to check for obvious items like blown fuses.
The power supply is the next item to check before proceeding to more detailed
troubleshooting, since noise or low power supply voltages can cause a variety of
digital and analog problems.
5.4.2 Line Fuses Replacement
The power supply of the oscilloscope is protected against short circuits and
overload by means of two T3.15A/250 V fuses located above the main plugs.
Turn off the power and disconnect the line cord from the instrument.
Disconnect the instrument from other equipment.
To replace line fuses, proceed as follows:
• Open the fuse box by inserting a small flat screwdriver under the plastic cover
and remove the fuse carrier from the holder.
• Remove the fuse and replace it with the proper type: T3.15 A/250 V, part
number:
5.4.3 Initial Troubleshooting Chart
Most procedures in this section will allow troubleshooting down to the BOARD
LEVEL.
Defective circuit boards will be repaired or replaced by the regional LeCroy service
office or the local representative (see section 2.2).
