The Shad Laho, or Chiphiah Dance, as it is originally known, is one of the oldest traditional and

religious dances of Y Hynniewtrep – Ynniaw wasa.

In the Chiphiah Dance, the female is flanked by the males on either side. The female stands for the
custodian of the family and the preserver of posterity. The male to her right represents the uncle
who will defend and protect the family, that to her left represents the father or husband or the
progenitor of the family. There is a lone female dancer to represent the priestess or the head of the
religion known in local terms, “Ka Langdoh”. Therefore, on close examination of the Chiphiah Dance,
one will see the concrete and precise representation of a family.
