Artifact #3: Author Study

Artifact #3 is the Author Study SmartBoard Presentation created by the candidate on the

children’s book author, Stacy McAnulty. An author study is an activity that allows students to

critically learn about a specific author and that author’s theme and writing style while making

personal connections between their own experiences and the author’s (Reading Rockets, 2018).

When an educator utilizes author studies, especially through the SmartBoard technology, they

are reaching out to many different types of learners, which are described in Howard Gardner’s

Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Examples of this include visual learners through seeing what

the teacher is trying to explain, auditory learners through hearing the teacher explain, and

kinesthetic through physically interacting with the SmartBoard (Elliot, 51). Including this

artifact showcases several competencies as a professional educator such as integrating

technology, planning and instruction in the classroom. This artifact makes connections with

several educational standards, which are listed in detail below.
