A 230 V, 50 Hz, 4 – pole single phase induction motor has the following equivalent circuit impedances:
Friction, windage and core loss = 40 W. For a slip of 0.03pu, calculation (a) input current, (b) power
factor, (c) developed power, (d) output power, (e) efficiency
A universal series motor operating at 220 V dc draws a 10 A and runs at 1400 rpm. Find the new speed
and power factor when connected to a 220 V, 50 hz supply, the motor current is the same. The motor
has a total resistance of 1 ohm and inductance of 0.1 H.
A fractional horse power universal motor has armature circuit resistance of 20 ohm and inductance of
0.4 H. On being connected to a 220 V dc supply, it draws 1.0 A from the mains and runs at 2000 rpm.
Estimate the speed and power factor of the motor when connected to a 230 V, 50 Hz supply drawing
the same amount of current.
A universal series motor has a resistance of 30 ohm and an inductance of 0.5 H. when connected to a
250 V dc supply and loaded to take 0.8 A, it runs at 2000 rpm. Determine the speed, torque and power
factor, when connected to a 250 V, 50 Hz ac supply and loaded to take the same current.
A 208-V four-pole 60-Hz Y-connected wound-rotor induction motor is rated at 15 hp. Its equivalent

A 75kW 3-phase, Y connected, 50 Hz, 440 V cylindrical rotor synchronous motor operates at rated
condition with 0.8 pf leading. The motor efficiency excluding field and stator losses, is 95% and Xs=2.5
Ohm. Calulate
A 20 pole, 693 V, 50 Hz, 3 phase, delta connected synchronous motor is operating at no load with
normal excitation. It has armature resistance per phase of 0 and synchronous reactance of 10 ohm. If
the rotor is retarded by 0.5 degrees mechanical from its synchronous position. Compute,
A 3 phase, 150 kW, 2300 V, 50 Hz, 1000 rpm salient pole synchronous motor has Xd = 32 Ohm per
phase and Xq = 20 Ohm per phase. Neglecting losses, calculate the torque developed by the motor if
the field excitation is so adjusted as to make the back emf twice the applied voltage and angle = 16
degrees.
A 20 pole, 40 hp, 660 V, 60 Hz, three-phase, wye-connected, synchronous motor is operating at no-
load with its generated voltage per phase exactly equal to the phase voltage applied to its armature. At
no-load, the rotor is retarded 0.5 mechanical degree from its synchronous position. The synchronous
reactance is 10 ohms, and the effective armature resistance is 1 ohm per phase. Calculate:
For the motor described below, (a) determine the power input and power developed, (b) determine the
maximum torque angle (pull-out point) and the stability factor. 200 horsepower, Unity pf, 8 poles
60 cycles, 440 volts, three phase, Re = 0.0285 ohm per phase, Xd = 1.27 ohms per phase, Xq = 0.774
ohm per phase, and Full-load amperes = 210 amperes per terminal.
