Class Reflection

Psychology Reflection

Along with some of my peers, Psychology 1010 was an elective I had to take in order to receive
our degree. There might have been maybe a few who were actually majoring in psychology, but yeah,
we were there for an elective. I really enjoyed this class however, and although I didn’t attend class as
much as I should have. I was still able to keep up on the work with the easy navigation of the online
portion of the course. Interesting videos were posted for every week, so it was easier to stay attentive.

Throughout the course, we learned many different topics. I actually enjoy taking elective classes
like these because it’s classes like psychology that can be applicable to real life. I mean, not everything
will revolve around chemistry or physics. Well, ideally it does revolve around it but there were
thousands of years of that went by before we went into detail. Any who, elective classes usually have
really interesting topics. In the psychology we learned about dreams, we learned about human
development and social psychology. All things that you should notice in your day to day life.

There was one week that I particularly liked and actually left an implant on my brain was the
week we focused on therapies and health psychology. The two almost were interrelated but it helped
me understand the importance of working with the brain. Physically and scientifically, the brain is one of
the most complicated systems. Everyone knows that we apparently on use 10% of our brain. Ideally, we
are a pretty advanced organisms that nature has cooked up. Our bodies have changed and adapted over
hundreds of years since the modern homes apian. To this day, we don’t fully understand the human
brain. Let alone trying to understand why somethings don’t always work like they should, flipping
switches on and off and causing disorder to happen like ADHD or being bipolar. The weeks we focused
our studies on studying this gave me more of any understanding with mental disorders and illness. The
topic was fairly known in my family, so it helped getting some insight on how these people live.

This class also presented me with my first actual group project since high school. Third year in
college and the day finally came. It was tough in the beginning trying to get everyone to participate. We
honestly waited until the middle of the semester before we even started to work on our project. I was
going through a strange point in my life during the summer, which required me to miss class and not
being able to meet with my teammates. Regardless, I made sure I always replied and communicated and
worked on the website on my end. Sadly, I had been thrown under the bus and was told I “don’t
participate”. Bummed me out, but I knew for myself I was doing what I could. No hard feelings I guess.

In all, this was a fun elective I got to take with Ms. Campbell and she did a fantastic job of always
communicating important things with the class. Couldn’t have had a better experience 😊
