Mano-Mano

Roland initiates the aggressive assault move by grabbing David's left wrist. Note that
David is aware and prepared in this scenario with a balanced relaxed stance.
Immediately reacting to the left wrist grab, David begins a right arm/hand sweep
downward and clockwise using a Figure-8 striking motion. David maintains a longer-
range position to minimize attacks from Roland's left arm/hand.

David strikes with the Figure-8 motion to Roland's right inside elbow joint target.
David continues with a follow-up by completing the Figure-8 motion with a palm-heel
strike to Roland's head. Roland is forced to react and defend his head target zone using a
parry/check motion of his left hand.
David's counter-strike/bait and Roland's parry/check action was expected and
anticipated. David executes an obstruction removal pass with his left hand while
moving off his line and going to Roland's left outside zone. Note: David executes a
downward press with his left hand causing Roland to be in an off-balanced position.

David shifts into a left forward stance to complete the counter move with an armbar
technique. Numerous alternative finishing moves are available and the IMAF Modern
Arnis instructors and students are encouraged to explore these alternatives.
Dan assumes a ready position - relaxed, balanced - at the first awareness of Brian's
aggressive threatening posture. Long-range distance is maintained at this point.

Brian initiates a #12 strike to Dan's crown. Dan steps forward and at an outside angle to
his left side with his left foot.
Note: closes range and angles off-line. Once mobility is initiated, Dan executes a left
high parry while simultaneously executing a right knuckle strike against Brian's right
inside elbow joint target area using the gunting (scissors) technique.

Dan maintains his angle to Brian while controlling the cane. Note: Dan controls the
cane while closing Brian's angle by sweeping the cane and Brian's right arm/shoulder
across his center-line.
Dan continues the cane sweep to execute a strike to Brian's right inside thigh target area.

Immediately following the strike to the inside thigh target area, Dan brings the
controlled cane behind and upward with the cane tip passing above Brian's right
shoulder. This initiates the so-called Single-Lock technique.
Dan completes the cane Single-Lock technique by applying downward pressure.

Note: It is important that Brian's structure is broken down and off-balanced as he is bent
over.
Dan completes the series with a knee strike to the attacker's head/face target area.
Attacker (L) and Defender (R) squares off

Attacker throws right lead punch. Defender angles off the centerline to his outside left
rear while simultaneously performing an empty-hand Reverse Sinawali and Gunting
(Scissors action) combination (parrying with the left hand and striking the attacker's
right elbow with the defender's right hand knuckles/fist).
Defender passes the punch through and grabs the attacker's right wrist with the his right
hand and stretches it high as he takes the opponents breath by striking the floating ribs.
Note: focus on the proper range and posture/balance of this combination.
While maintaining a firm hold of the attacker's right hand/wrist joint, the defender steps
under the punch and through with the left foot and pivots back around facing the
opponent. Defender applies the Backward Wrist Lock and throws the opponent. Note:
focus on proper positioning and angling to avoid counters from the attacker's free left
hand.

Attacker is thrown to his back and the defender kneels down and presses the attacker's
neck with his left knee (or left hand). The Defender starts applying the Palm Press to the
ground. Note: keep the body alignment/posture upright - do not lean too far. Also, focus
on keeping the left foot against the attacker's head to prevent the attacker from being
able to squirm/rotate away from the Palm Press lock.

The Palm Press lock to the ground is applied at a 45-degree angle and makes the
opponent submit. Note: the 45-degree angle refers to the angle between the axis of the
spine and the attacker's right forearm axis. The wrist and elbow should be inline with
the attacker's navel and his opposite (left) hip for proper angle alignment of the lock.
Scott initiates attack with a step through right lunge punch

Brett moves off to angle with left foot as he execute a left parry against Scott's elbow.
Brett includes a strike with his right fist to the pressure point near Scott's elbow (Heart
2).
Immediately after the check with the left hand, Brett continues the motion downward
and drives Scott's hand to his knee.

Brett continues the motion down hyperextending the knee and taking over Scott's
balance.
Brett commits to the technique and takes Scott to the ground.

Brett assumes a ready position and can follow-up with a variety of ground techniques or
escape.
David on the right with Roland both in the ready position

Roland throws a right punch towards David’s face. David parries the strike downward.
David counter punches with a right cross. Roland parries the punch to the inside.

David clears Roland’s parry with his left hand (obstruction removal) and right back fist
to Roland’s head.
David applies arm bar. Note; David’s right knee position is behind Roland’s Knee.

David finishes Roland with a side kick to the inside of the knee.
Luther (right) strikes a #1, Landry (left) blocks the strike with an inward parry.

Landry grabs with the left and counter strikes with his right back fist.
Landry crosses his body with his right hand and catches Luther’s stick hand. He moves
his right hand in a clockwise direction grasping Luther’s hand and locking it out at the
wrist.

Landry counter strikes with a kick to the knee as he takes the stick away.
Landry controls Luther’s posture and distance using his grip on Luther’s wrist. He
chambers the stick preparing to finish the technique.

Landry finishes with a # 2 strike to the bridge of Luther’s nose.

Ready Position

Brian enters with a right front kick to Lance’s stomach. Lance moves offline, stepping
forward with his right foot using his X-pattern footwork. He uses a left downward block
and hooks Brian’s leg. Lance reaches over with his right hand and hooks Brian’s knee.
This will make the next movement simpler to apply.
Lance pulls back with his right hand drawing Brian’s knee toward him. At the same
time he raises his left elbow slightly forcing Brian to turn over.

Lance shuffles forward slightly as he drive’s Brian’s knee into the floor driving him to
the ground. He continues to control Brian’s foot.
Lance wraps his left foot clockwise around Brian’s knee. Note that he keeps Brian’s foot
up near his hip with the toes pointing toward the hip.

Lance finishes by stepping forward with his right foot and squatting down. Note that
Lance’s shoulders are parallel with Brian’s spine. Lance can also add additional pressure
by leaning toward Brian’s opposite shoulder. From here he is in an excellent position for
negotiating or calling for help.
Dorian throws right lunge punch at Sally. Sally steps off to 11:00 and parries the punch
with her left hand.

Sally follows up immediately by thrusting a right knife hand to Dorian’s neck. She
continues that motion and grabs Dorian’s neck.
Sally executes a mobility throw by driving Dorian’s head down toward the ground
which will raise her hand.

Sally controls the fall so that Dorian drops directly at her feet. She continues to hold
Dorian’s wrist.
Sally steps across with her right foot and places her heal into the deltoid tendon of
Dorian’s left shoulder. Stepping on the tendon will cause your opponent to roll away
from the pain onto their side. Sally immediately applies an arm bar against her knee by
drawing Dorian’s wrist backward and down. The pain from this arm bar needs to be
constant throughout the technique.

Maintaining the pressure of the arm bar Sally steps across with her left foot and bases
Dorian’s hand against her left knee. She controls the hand by squeezing the fingers
together and pushing them backwards toward the elbow. She squeezes her knees
together, which adds pressure to the arm bar.
