Artifact #8: NetSmartz Digital Citizenship Certificate

Artifact #8 is the NetSmartz Digital Citizenship Training Certificate of completion. This

training on teaching digital citizenship in the classroom, which is sponsored by Disney, was

completed on June 12, 2018 and focused on providing educators with professional knowledge of

how to incorporate and teach students the responsibility of being a digital citizen in the cyber

world. Including this artifact showcases several competencies as a professional educator such as

integrating technology and commitment to professional development. It’s beneficial to

incorporate technology in the classroom in so many ways, however it’s critical for students to

know how to stay safe and be responsible while using cyber space. This certificate shows proof

of the training completed by the candidate as a resource in improving the candidate’s knowledge

of this content. This artifact makes connections with several educational standards, which are

listed in detail below.

InTASC Standards
Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice: The teacher engages in ongoing
professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the
effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the
community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.

TEAC/CAEP Claims
Claim 1: Medaille College graduates know the subject matter in their certification
area(s)
Claim 2: Medaille College graduates meet the needs of diverse learners through
effective pedagogy and best teaching practices.
Claim 3: Medaille College graduates are caring educators.

Principle 3: Educators commit to their own learning in order to develop their practice:
Educators recognize that professional knowledge and development are the foundations of their
practice. They know their subject matter, and they understand how students learn. Educators
respect the reciprocal nature of learning between educators and students. They engage in a
variety of individual and collaborative learning experiences essential to develop professionally
and to promote student learning. They draw on and contribute to various forms of educational
research to improve their own practice.
ISTE Standards for Educators

Standard #2: Leader: Educators seek out opportunities for leadership to support student

empowerment and success and to improve teaching and learning.

Standard #6: Facilitator: Educators facilitate learning with technology to support student

achievement of the ISTE Standards for Students.

CEC Standards

Standard #7: Protecting and supporting the physical and psychological safety of individuals with
exceptionalities.

Conclusion

Overall, these eight artifacts provide well-rounded evidence that the candidate is capable

and prepared to be a professional educator. The importance of each artifact is supported by

theorists and aligned with curriculum and professional educational standards. Further, the

artifacts highlight the candidate’s competencies in planning, instructing and assessment in units

and lessons, incorporating technology through various modes, applying knowledge of

accommodations and culturally responsive teaching to support all students’ learning, classroom

management skills and ability to collaborate with various professionals. Specifically, the

curriculum and professional educational standards are further outlined in the following section,

which is Section Four: Alignment to Curriculum & Professional Standards.
