JOB DESCRIPTION – Trainee R&D

Job Nature: The incumbent will be part of the team providing Vision system solutions for all
SBU’s. The work basically would be under the following two categories:

 Machine Vision System Design

 Image Processing Algorithm Development for PCs or embedded platforms- Candidate
need not necessarily have hands on experience on coding but he should definitely possess
knowledge on programming language and platform along best practices followed)
.However, If we find candidates who have hands on experience; it would be an added value.

In this role, you will act as a System Integrator i.e. buy components,get software developed,
and integrate all the pieces/elements to create the solution.

Besides this , you will also be responsible for working on machine learning techniques to
provide intelligence to automation.

The incumbent has to be a connector on our existing secure transaction and printing
capabilities and forecasted/identified new avenues.

You will also be an important role player in entire r&d cycle-right from conceptualization to
realization as far as your competence centre is concerned:

 Product conceptualization
 Effort, Cost, and Timeline Estimation
 Patents analysis
 System design and development
 Testing and validation including reliability tests
 Release to manufacturing

Roles and Responsibilities

Function-Specific

1. Develop comprehensive, system integrated, cost-effective and holistic system design

from individual components (cameras, lighting, and optics) to the complete machine
vision system.
 2. Inspection and classification of objects & features like color registration,
deformity/counterfeit detection at high speeds with special hardware and optimized
computational techniques

3. Develop imaging modules and architectures that can be used to custom develop
cameras with various form factors (shape, size, enclosures for industrial usage), imaging
technology (CCD/CMOS, visible/IR, stereo), interfaces (FireWire, Camera Link, USB, GigE,
LVDS), with embedded intelligence (DSP, FPGA), and provisions for various optic mounts
(C, CS, F, Custom).

4. Accurate manufacturing defect detection thru 3D Metrology- camera calibration, sub-

pixel accurate localization of features and robust algorithms and pose estimation
principles.

5. Develop machine learning techniques to provide intelligence to automation

6. Development of security devices and solutions to authenticate the product like tax
stamps/cards- may be mobile based or any other form factor for digital authentication.

7. Solution for Instant certificate issuances & scanning solutions. Development of specific
software for printing and packaging manufacturing machines.

8. Implementation & enhancement of R&D connect+

9. Code chip level programming (micro processor based) for machine control-coding
capability not required, but knowledge,market insights,best practices info definitely
required. - Candidate should be capable to translate / articulate requirement into field
level language for the developers.

General

10. Evaluation of technical documents, estimation, costing, vendor & finalization with
commercial approach. Internal / external customer interaction.

11. Value re-engineering of existing products to improve quality and reduce cost. Moreover,
to keep product ahead of competition in the market.
12. Conduct the rigorous, fact-based appraisal of industry performance drivers and
competitive dynamics

13. Manage/share work effort of the juniors/peers on client engagements to ensure that
the focus is correct and the work is accomplished on time, and meets or exceeds the
highest quality standard

14. Educate internal customers and team members from outside other parts on R&D
concepts and frameworks they may not be familiar with in terms of business drivers and
integration points

15. Develop innovative thought leadership and contribute to the creation of points of view
on new client sustainability offerings and insights. This would be in close alliance with
strategy and marketing people.

16. Build and maintain excellent relationships with external partners / suppliers, customers
and internal clients as an advocate of the company .

17. Assist Management in providing strategic oversight of planning and prioritization of

projects for the company and its clients

18. Adhere development activities for both current and new products to strict
commercialization schedules

19. Oversee technology transfer activities from the development group or from vendors to
manufacturing
20. Establish milestones and monitor adherence to master plans and schedules, identifies
program problems and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources

21. Dividing the projects into sub-projects for parallelization of tasks (i.e. Concurrent
Engineering).

22. Ensuring optimized implementation of the phase (stage) gate product development
process, by optimizing the product development time to market, optimizing resource
utilization, realizing synergy between teams and platforms.

23. Doing the feasibility check before initiating any project and ensuring risk mitigation tools
are in place.
 24. Identifying the criticalities/challenges in the project proactively and implementing
corrective actions.

Expertise Required

1. Credibility in technology, innovation and knowledge exchange networks

2. 1-2years of experience in manufacturing capacity as Senior engineer or higher
position with vivid exposure on cross technological platforms and embedded
system. Having worked on secure transaction pathways, WIS,RFID or NFCs,track
and trace system,digital security features is a definite plus.
3. BE/B.Tech, M.S, ME/M.Tech in Electronics and Communication or Information
Technology or Computer Science.
4. Knowledge of Secure printing methods and associated technology e.g.Temper
evident tech, authentication methodologies, latent imaging etc. knowledge
preferred.
5. Innovative thinking concept designing.
6. Knowledge on electronics, camera, sensors, Architecture designing, I/O
communication to configure & identify right sets of devices to facilitate end to
end solution & integrate with existing & New equipments.
7. Knowledge on Digital printing techniques and authentication techniques to
identify the compatibility to migrate from conventional to Digital & stimulate the
results theoretically and using hardware & software tool sets.
8. Project Management capability.
9. Techno-commercial capability –for market exploration and positioning.
10. Using right kind of machine hardware- imaging hardware manufacturing
experience
11. Eye for bridging gaps between product and market needs
12. multi-disciplinary skills spanning electronics, software, optical, and mechanical
engineering
13. Knowledge on Microcontroller based embedded solutions for a variety of
measurement and control applications.
14. Understanding of product life cycle management and R&D focus areas
15. Candidate should be capable to translate / articulate requirement into field level
language to ease out development process by the developers.
16. Candidate will be a facilitator / problem solver for all activities mentioned and
should have strong knowledge and connectivity with existing technology and
should also be an expert in performing SWOT analysis.
