Dedication...

To the memory of my late mother and father, may Allah

have mercy on them; my heart and tongue will pray for you
as long as I live. You have planted honesty and loyalty in
me, and here you harvest what you sowed, prayers from
me: "My Lord Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did
bring me up when I was small".
All the praises and thanks be to Allah Almighty, who
guided me in preparing this book, and I ask Allah Almighty
to complete His Grace on me to achieve the desired benefit
of this book, which is to guide so many people to the right
path.
And prayers and peace upon the last of Prophets and
Messengers, Muhammad , his family and his companions;
May Allah, reward him the best of all. May Allah be
pleased with the Companions and followers and those who
follow them with goodness to the Day of Judgment, and
may Allah reward all authors of the books and references
that we referred to . Last but not least, I would like to thank
Sheikh Mohammed Al-Qaisi for reviewing the Arabic part
of this book and advice on some contemporary topics; and
the last of our prayers is all praises and thanks be to Allah
the Lord of the Worlds.

In the name of Allah the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Introduction
All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the
Alamin (mankind, jinn, and all that exists) and the prayers
and peace upon the last (end) of Prophets and Messengers,
Muhammad , his family , his companions and those who
followed him until the day of Judgment.
At this advanced stage in the history of mankind, we see
people in all their spectra and beliefs are possessed by the
love of life, to the extent of selfishness, so many people
have forgotten that their lives must end one day. This is
reflected in the acquisition of their daily lives, their
consumptive way of life and their materialistic dealings
with others. I cannot help but to mention the words of our
Prophet Muhammad (prayers and peace of Allah be upon
him) "whoever his heart is filled with love of life, three
things from it adhere to him: misery with everlasting
worry, scrimp without riches and false hope that can't be
reached, life is demanding and demanded, whoever
demanded life is demanded by the Hereafter until taken by
death, and whoever demanded the Hereafter will be
demanded by life until he attains his sustenance" )1(

We hear in our society the saying "the old days are better "
and so on, the heartbreak over the past days. But why ?
even though these days have all the necessities of life, well-
being and comfort, modern technology has given solutions
to many problems and has facilitated the daily life of
mankind. And I have heard the same argument that the
good old days were better, compared with nowadays, by
many peoples in different countries .
The reason for this is the lack of faith in the hearts of many
people despite what we see as the spread of religion and the
people's desire for prayer and other worship. If only faith
was rooted in the hearts, we will see the opposite of the
selfishness , individuality and family disintegration we see
today, and people will depend on Allah rather than
depending on materialistic causes.
This book included a modest effort to call for Islam , the
true religion. Things have been traced back to their origins
for the benefits and the lessons of Islam, where the pillars
of the Islamic faith, the elements of belief, the link between
Islam and faith in ones actions, morality and transactions so
that we do not separate religion from daily life.
This book also includes a part of the biography of our
Prophet Muhammad (prayers and peace of Allah be upon
him) and the Holy Quran which was descended upon him
from Allah Almighty by Gabriel (peace be upon him).

8
Some misconceptions about Islam have been commented
upon, while ignoring the reasons that led to such ideas.
Finally, the end of life has been touched upon on the basis
that life is a test that ends in death and then the evaluation
and sanction phase begins on the day of resurrection in the
Hereafter.
I wrote this book in both Arabic and English languages in
order to widen the spread of its contents as much as
possible , may Allah lead through it many to the right path.

May Allah accepts this work sincerely;

Thank Allah, Lord of the Worlds.

The Beginning of Creation

The heavens and the earth were contiguous as one thing

and , Allah Almighty separated them and the result of this
separation is the creation of the universe , as we know it,
including the planet Earth . Allah Almighty said: "Have not
those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth
were joined together as one united piece, then We parted
them? And We have made from water every living thing.
Will they not then believe) [Surat Al-Anbiya', 30]
This exact Quranic description was approached by
physicists and astronomers in the theory of the "Big Bang",
which is the dominant theory about the universe where it
says that the universe was in the past a single dense mass
and was expanded by a large explosion from which stars,
planets and other celestial bodies were formed. Scientists
approximate the occurrence of that explosion to be about
13.8 billion years ago, which is considered the age of the
universe.)1(
A long time after the creation of the heavens and the earth,
Allah Almighty created Adam from the soil of earth
and created Eve from him to be his wife, Allah said:

)1( Columbia University Encyclopedia/6th edition, 2017 (and most

cosmic physics books)

00
" O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you
from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He
created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], and from them both He
created many men and women, and fear Allah through
Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut
the relations of) the wombs (kinship) . Surely, Allah is Ever
an All-Watcher over you" [Surat An-Nisaa', 1], Allah
Almighty, also said "And among His Signs is this, that He
created for you wives from among yourselves, that you
may find repose in them, and He has put between you
affection and mercy. Verily, in that are indeed signs for
people who reflect". [Surat Al-Room, 21]
Allah Almighty made Adam and Eve live in paradise,
where life is easy and prosperous , and forbade them from
being close to a particular tree , to avoid temptation, and eat
from it and considered it a sin to do so. The devil seduced
Adam to eat from the tree and claimed that it is the tree of
immortality and everlasting fortune. Adam disobeyed Allah
Almighty by eating from the tree that Allah warned him
from approaching it.
The sane human concludes from the story of Adam and
Eve that life is a test for humans, that is related to obeying
Allah Almighty or disobeying him, and this is clear in
many places in the Holy Quran,
Allah Almighty said " Who has created death and life, that
He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is
the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving [Surat Al-Mulk, 2]

02
Therefore the happiness of mankind or his misery in this
life and in the Hereafter is based on being obedient to Allah
Almighty or otherwise a sinner , and that is from the
beginning of creation, however repentance of sins is
accepted by Allah Almighty.

03
What is Life?

Many philosophers have tried throughout history to give a

meaning to life, especially as it ends with the inevitable
death of every human being. The human child is born
crying and needs several years of constant care to stand on
his feet, speaks and learns to take care of himself.
The childhood stage requires great care from parents, and
then comes school and then the university until the human
being begins his journey in search of work to make money
and then start thinking about marrying and forming a
family. Then he begins his real journey into the real world.
During the productive years, the human being forgets the
very meaning of his or her existence and lives in a vortex
that revolves around making money, raising children and
solving family problems and other problems that may arise.
As the years pass by, the children grow up and leave the
family's nest which was built on a lot of effort, money and
time, then the parents find that they have returned to the
beginning of the journey, just the two of them. There may
be a house and money, but not the time. Children
communicate with parents by telephone calls, social media
or personal visits at the best.
After the husband and wife returned to be alone when their
offspring leave and pursue their independence , they begin

04
to think about adapting to the new situation and dealing
with the new problems, most of which are centered on
health matters, where parents have grown old and are no
longer young as before. Years have passed by quickly and
what was very important at that time is no longer a priority.
Life progresses and health problems begin whenever a
human is anxious to live longer and may turn into
suffering. After this arduous journey of study, work and
upbringing of children and sickness, the suffering ends in
death.
The question arises, is there a logical explanation for this
process and what is the meaning of a life that begins and
ends with a lot of struggle and suffering? If we look at the
journey of life in the abstract, there is no logical and
convincing explanation for it, but if we use the right
religion as a tool to develop a philosophy for this life, it
turns out that religion is the only thing that gives it a
rational interpretation.
The Islamic religion tells us that life is short and full of
adversities, and that there is another life after death, eternal
life, and that a human being in the afterlife can be very
happy in paradise or can be at misery and torment in Hell,
and there is no third option.
And that depends on the conduct of the human being
himself during his first life.
The Islamic religion basics are: believing in Allah
Almighty, his Angels, his Books, his Messengers, the Last

05
day and fate and destiny , in addition to applying this faith
in practical life through performing worship and avoiding
of taboos and prohibitions.
Allah Almighty promised that faith in him and good
conduct would lead to a happy living in life and afterlife.
Allah Almighty said : "Whoever works righteousness,
whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer
(of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a
good life (in this world with respect, contentment and
lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a
reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do
(i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)" [Surat Al-Nahl, 97]
Allah Almighty sent Messengers (peace be upon them)
to teach people the true religion, Allah Almighty said
"Mankind were one community and Allah sent Prophets
with glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent the
Scripture in truth to judge between people in matters
wherein they differed. And only those to whom (the
Scripture) was given differed concerning it after clear
proofs had come unto them through hatred, one to another.
Then Allah by His Leave guided those who believed to the
truth of that wherein they differed. And Allah guides whom
He wills to a Straight Path) [Surat Al-Baqarah, 213]
The verse states that all people were on the same religion as
the religion of monotheism in the historical period between
Adam and Noah (peace be upon them), after many
centuries, the worship of Idols was spread and people

06
became between believers and disbelievers, so Allah
Almighty sent the Messengers to guide the people as
missionaries of faith and righteousness and warning the
people of disbelief and corruption and sent down with them
the Holy Books to be a referee among people. The
interpretation of the verse further states that Allah
Almighty has guided the nation of Muhammad (prayers
and peace of Allah be upon him) with what he told them in
the Holy Quran about the dispute of other previous nations,
and this is a proof that the Holy Quran and the message of
Muhammad (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) are
the comprehensive guide, and are really the latest of
celestial messages and the latest of celestial books)1(.

07
Prophets and Messengers and their Messages

We mentioned in the previous chapter that people in the

past were one nation and on the same religion , the religion
of monotheism and with time people moved away from
religion and worshiped idols. Afterwards, Allah Almighty
sent the Messengers to return the rule of Allah Almighty to
the world, preaching Heaven and its bliss and warning of
Hell and its torment, Allah Almighty said: " Messengers as
bearers of good news as well as of warning in order that
mankind should have no plea against Allah after the
Messengers. And Allah is Ever All-Powerful, All-Wise"
[Surat Al- Nisa' ,165]
The Holy Quran mentioned 25 Messengers, some
Messengers were not mentioned as Allah Almighty said:
" And Messengers We have mentioned to you before, and
Messengers We have not mentioned to you ; and to Musa
(Moses) Allah spoke directly". [surat Al- Nisa' ,164]
Those Messengers are: Adam, Idris, Noah, Hood, Saleh,
Ibrahim, Lot, Ismail, Isaac, Yaqub, Ayoub, Yusuf, Shuaib,
Musa, Haron, Dhul-Kifl, Daoud, Suleiman, Elias, Alyasa,
Younis, Zakaria, Yahya, Issa, and Muhammad ( peace be
upon them all).

08
Allah Almighty sent the Messengers to different nations,
Allah Almighty said: "And for every Ummah (a community
or a nation), there is a Messenger; when their Messenger
comes, the matter will be judged between them with
justice, and they will not be wronged" [Surat Younis , 47]
As for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he
was sent to all mankind , Allah Almighty said : " And We
have not sent you (O Muhammad ) except as a giver of
glad tidings and a warner to all mankind, but most of men
know not) [Surat Saba', 28], Allah Almighty, also said
" Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but
he is the Messenger of Allah and the last (end) of the
Prophets. And Allah is Ever All-Aware of everything".
[Surat Al-Ahzab, 40]
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the last of
the prophets, sent by Allah Almighty to complete his
message of Islam to the worlds with the Holy Quran which
is the last of the Heavenly books.
The Islamic religion covers all previous heavenly messages
and the Holy Quran includes all previous scriptures and
sets the life course for people in a final form, as the
following verses indicate: "Say (O Muslims), We believe in
Allah and that which has been sent down to us and that
which has been sent down to Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma'il
(Ishmael), Ishaque (Isaac), Ya'qub (Jacob), and to Al-
Asbat [the twelve sons of Ya'qub (Jacob)], and that which
has been given to Musa (Moses) and 'Iesa (Jesus), and that

09
which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We
make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we
have submitted (in Islam)" [Surat Al-Baqarah, 136], and
the Verse "And We have sent down to you (O
Muhammad ) the Book (this Qur'an) in truth, confirming
the Scripture that came before it and Mohayminan
(trustworthy in highness and a witness) over it (old
Scriptures) . So judge between them by what Allah has
revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging away
from the truth that has come to you. To each among you,
We have prescribed a law and a clear way. If Allah willed,
He would have made you one nation, but that (He) may test
you in what He has given you; so strive as in a race in good
deeds. The return of you (all) is to Allah; then He will
inform you about that in which you used to differ" [Surat
Al-Maidah, 48].
This is a mandate from Allah Almighty to Muslims to say
and believe in the prophets of Allah and the Books that
have been descended on his prophets and to show that there
is no contradiction between these Messages and Books ,
and that the Holy Quran includes the call upon Allah
Almighty and the order for good deeds and forbidding evil.
The Holy Quran is a witness to the authenticity of the
Books and the decision of what in the Books, including
what is in line with it and excluding what violates it )1(.

)1( Zubdet At-Tafaser / Dr. Mohammed Al-Ashqar.

21
Therefore, Islam is the religion that every human being
must follow, said Almighty: "And whoever seeks a religion
other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in
the Hereafter he will be one of the losers" [Surat Al-iImran,
85]

The Messenger of Mercy , the Messenger of Allah
( peace be upon him)

Allah (Glorified and Exalted) chose the Prophet

Muhammad (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him),
from the most honorable, purest and highest genealogy, he
is the descendant of Ismail Bin Ibrahim (peace be upon
them).
He (peace be upon him), is Muhammad bin Abd-Allah bin
Abd Al-Muttalib bin Hashem bin Abd Manaf bin Kilab bin
Qussai bin Morrah bin Qaab bin Louai bin Ghalib bin Fiher
bin Malik bin Alnather bin Kenanah bin Khuzaimah bin
Madrakah bin Illias bin Modhar bin Nizar bin Maad bin
Adnan bin Idd bin Terah bin Yaroub bin Yashgob bin
Nabit bin Ismail bin Ibrahim (Khalil Al-Rahman). The
Honorable lineage continues to link to Noah to Idris to
Adam (father of mankind))1( .

1. His qualities (prayers and peace of Allah be upon

The Prophet Muhammad (prayers and peace of Allah be

and the perfection of his ethics, to an extent that cannot be
fully described.
His effect made the hearts overwhelmed in homage, and
men were dedicated to his obeisance and caring to the
extent that was not know to another man in history. They
would rather have their necks broken than have his
fingernail scratched )1(.
The Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) was
average height, neither dark in complexion, nor too white.
His hair was shoulder height, wavy, neither straight nor
curly )2(.
Many of his companions described the face of the Prophet
Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as
the full moon , and the palm of his hand feels like silk and
brocade, and they did not smell a better scent than his )3(.

2. High Morals of the Prophet (prayers and peace of

the ability to give brief speechs with broad meanings, he
also knew different Arab tongues.
Self-discipline, tolerance and forgiveness with the ability to
punish, are some of the traits that Allah Almighty gave his
Prophet )1(.
Aisha, the Prophets wife (May Allah be pleased about her)
said: "whenever the Prophet of Allah ( peace be upon him)
was asked to chose between two things, he choose the
easiest unless it is a sin, and if it was a sin, he would be the
farthest of people away from it. And he never had revenge
for himself unless a sanctity was violated he took revenge
for the sake of Allah" )2(.
Generosity was one of the qualities of the Prophet of Allah
( peace be upon him), Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased
with him), said: "the Prophet (peace of Allah be upon him)
was the most generous of all people and as generous as can
be in Ramadan where Gabriel( peace be upon him) meets
him, and Gabriel ( peace be upon him) used to meet him
every night of Ramadan to study the teachings of Qur'an.
The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) was more
generous than the wind full of moisture and rain")3( , and

"he was never asked (begged) and said no", said Jaber (may

The Prophet of Allah ( peace be upon him) was full of
courage and bravery he attended the difficult situations
with determination, advancing and not backing off. His
cousin and companion Ali (peace be upon him) said "when
fierce fighting broke out we used to take cover behind the
Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) so no one is closer

to the enemy than he is" .
He was modest and most shy. Abu Said Al-Khudari (may
Allah be pleased with him), said "he was more shy than a
virgin in her seclusion" )3(. He never stared at anybody's
face. He always lowered his gaze, he looked ground- wards
more than he looked sky-wards, if he saw something that
he disliked, it would show on his face.
He did not talk to any one negatively out of shyness and
generosity, and he did not called a man by name to report
something he hates but he says, "Why are some people
making such?" )4(

He was the fairest, most impartial , most honest and most
trustworthy , acknowledged by his neighbors and enemies.
Before his prophecy he was called Al-Amin (the
trustworthy one) and he was asked to judge between
contenders before Islam.)1(
It was narrated from Al-Tirmidhi: that Abu Jahl said to
Muhammad (peace be upon him ) "we do not belie you ,
but we disbelieve in what you came with" so Allah
Almighty revealed, "We know indeed the grief which their
words cause you (O Muhammad ): it is not you that they
deny, but it is the Verses (the Qur'an) of Allah that
the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers) deny [Surat Al-
Anam, 33].
In the year 628 AD (the year 6 Hijri) , Muhammad (peace
be upon him ) sent a letter to the Roman Emperor Heraclius
to invite him to Islam, among other heads of states, so
Heraclius requested Abu Sufian, his enemy relative at that
time, and asked him : Do you accuse Muhammad of lying
before saying what he said (to be a prophet) , Abu Sufian:
said no.)2(
Muhammad (Peace be upon him ) was most humble and far
from egotism , he forbids his companions to rise to his
presence as they do for kings, and he sits with the poor

people and he answered the invitation of a slave and sits
among his friends as one of them, Aisha , his wife (may
Allah be pleased with her) said: "He would mend his shoe ,
stitch his dress , milk his sheep and serves himself ,
working with his hands as any one of you (Companions)
does in his house".)1(
The Prophet Muhammad (prayers and peace of Allah be
upon him) was most committed to covenants , most tied to
kinship and he had great compassion and mercy on people.
Al-Bukhaari narrated: "he was not harsh and aggressive
and he did not make noises in the market place; he did not
repay evil with evil, rather he overlooks and forgives")2(.
He did not let anyone walk behind him and he did not
distinguish himself from his servants and slaves in food and
clothing, and he served anyone who served him. He never
rebuked his servant and he did not blame him for doing
something or not doing it; he loved the poor, he attended
their funerals, and never despised the poor for their
poverty.
The Prophet Muhammad (prayers and peace of Allah be
upon him) did not sit and standup without remembrance of
Allah (praise); he does not designate a place for himself to
sit, instead he sat where an empty seat is available (even at

)1( Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtoom / Safi Al-Din Al-Mubarqfouri

)2( Saheeh Al-Bukhaari / Muhammad ibn Isma'il Al-Bukhari

27
the end) and taught that this should be the case for every
one.
He gave every one in his presence a share of talking, so that
no one is considered better than the other.
All this made The Prophet Muhammad (prayers and peace
of Allah be upon him) like a father to them and made them
equal to him with the priority to the one with most piety.)1(
Muhammad (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him)
refrained from three traits for his sake :hypocrisy, over
doing and what does not concerns him. And he refrained
from three traits for the sake of others: did not disgrace,
reproach or expose any one.
He spoke only in what he hoped for a reward. If he talked,
his Companions would gaze down, and when he stops
talking they talk.)2(
Thus, Muhammad (prayers and peace of Allah be upon
him) was blessed by Allah Almighty with unsurpassed
traits of perfection, he was addressed by Allah Almighty:
"And verily, you (O Muhammad ) are on an exalted
standard of character" [Surat Al-Qalam, 4], and these are
only short lines of his perfection and great qualities.

The truth about his glories and qualities, can not be
conceived, since he was the greatest human being in
existence, with the highest peak of perfection and the
enlightenment of his Lord until his character became the
Qur'an.)1(
3. Some Miracles of the Prophet (prayers and peace of
Allah be upon him)
The Miracles of the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be
upon him) have surpassed a thousand miracles as
mentioned by Ibn Al- Qaim ( the mercy of Allah on him) in
his book Ighathat Allahfan. Some of these miracles have
happened and done and one miracle is remaining until
Allah Almighty wishes, the great miracle and the great
proof on the prophecy of the Prophet (peace of Allah be
upon him), The Holy Quran, the eternal revelation, which
remains unchanged.
Some of the miracles of the Prophet (peace of Allah be
upon him) is his one–night journey ( Israa' and Me'raaj)
from Al-Masjid Al-Haram (at Makkah) to Al-Masjid Al-
Aqsa in Jerusalem and then his ascending to the heavens.
Some other miracles: splitting the moon, gushing water
from between his honorable fingers, telling metaphysical
events, trees and rocks saluting him, the multiplication of
food and drink with his blessing, curing the diseases of his

in battle.

4. Wives of the Prophet (peace of Allah be upon him)

It is known that the Prophet (peace of Allah be upon him)
was unlike other Muslims regarding marrying more than
four wives for many purposes.
The number of women he married was thirteen. And if we
reviewed the life of the Prophet ( peace be upon him) we
will certainly know that his marriage to so many women in
his late life after spending nearly thirty years of his prime
youth and finest days confined to one old wife, Khadija
(may Allah be pleased with her) , and know that those
marriages were not for pleasure and lust, instead, there
were other motives more virtuous than those achieved by
the ordinary marriage.
The affinity between the Prophet (peace of Allah be upon
him) and Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with
them) in marrying their daughters, Aisha and Hafsah (may
Allah be pleased with them) , was a kind of strengthening
relations between him and them as well as in marrying his
daughters to Ali and Othman (may Allah be pleased with
them).

)1( Stories of the Prophets with the Prophet's peace be upon him /
Muhammad Metwally Al-Shaarawi

31
Furthermore, the Prophet's ( peace be upon him) marriage
from different origins and tribes was to break the tribes'
hostility toward Islam and to extinguish their hatred,
because of the habits and traditions of Arabs to respect the
affinity, and they considered fighting the kindred a
shameful thing to do.)1(
One of the greatest reasons for the Prophet (peace of Allah
be upon him) to marry several wives was that he had been
instructed to convey the message of Islam, educate and
teach people, and in order to do that he had to deliver all
the teachings to the other half society, women, as well.
So marrying several women of different ages and different
nations and upbringing them on the teachings of the Islamic
religion would bring Islamic education to other women in
the society and thus to the entire family, given the
importance of women as educators and wives, and that is in
favor of the society as a whole.
The wives of the Prophet (peace of Allah be upon him),
mothers of the believers, had a big role in transferring his
daily life practices to the people. This is especially true for
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she narrated many
of the sayings and deeds of the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him), which conveyed the

hadith and the prophetic Sunnah to latter generations from

the source of the House of Prophecy.
And some referee and motives of the marriage of the
Prophet ( peace be upon him) from his cousin Zainab Bent
Jahsh who was the wife of Zaid bin Haritha who was
adopted by the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him), and was called Zaid Ibn Muhammad,
was the abolishment of the rule of adoption, of the Arabs
before Islam, where the adopted son had all the sanctities
and rights that were for the real son.
Allah Almighty made the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him) marry Zainab (may Allah be pleased
with her), Allah Almighty said: "And (remember) when
you said to him (Zaid bin Harithah; the freed-slave of the
Prophet ) on whom Allah has bestowed Grace (by guiding
him to Islam) and you (O Muhammad too) have done
favour (by manumitting him) "Keep your wife to yourself,
and fear Allah." But you did hide in yourself (i.e. what
Allah has already made known to you that He will give her
to you in marriage) that which Allah will make manifest,
you did fear the people (i.e., Muhammad married the
divorced wife of his manumitted slave) whereas Allah had
a better right that you should fear Him. So when Zaid had
accomplished his desire from her (i.e. divorced her), We
gave her to you in marriage, so that (in future) there may be

)1( Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtoom / Safi Al-Din Al-Mubarqfouri

no difficulty to the believers in respect of (the marriage of)
the wives of their adopted sons when the latter have no
desire to keep them (i.e. they have divorced them). And
Allah's Command must be fulfilled".[Surat Al-Ahzab, 37];
In order to really demolish the rule of adoption, as it was
demolished by saying, Allah Almighty said "Call them
(adopted sons) by (the names of) their fathers, that is more
just with Allah. But if you know not their father's (names,
call them) your brothers in faith and Mawalikum (your
freed slaves). And there is no sin on you if you make a
mistake therein, except in regard to what your hearts
deliberately intend. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most
Merciful [Surat Al-Ahzab, 5], Allah Almighty also said
"Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but
he is the Messenger of Allah and the last (end) of the
Prophets. And Allah is Ever All-Aware of everything"
[Surat Al-Ahzab, 40]
5. Some of what Allah has honored his prophet in this
life
1. Last (end) of the Prophets
Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with
him): The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him) said: "My similitude in comparison
with the other Prophets before me, is that of a man who
has built a house nicely and beautifully, except for a
place of one brick in a corner. The people go around it
and wonder at its beauty but say: would this brick be

33
put in its place! So I am the brick and I am the last of
)1(
the Prophets".
2. He is a confer (grant) on the believers. Allah Almighty
said :" Indeed Allah conferred a great favour on the
believers when He sent among them a Messenger
(Muhammad ) from among themselves, reciting unto
them His Verses (the Qur'an), and purifying them (from
sins by their following him), and instructing them (in)
the Book (the Qur'an) and Al-Hikmah [the wisdom and
the Sunnah of the Prophet (i.e. his legal ways,
statements, acts of worship, etc.)], while before that
they had been in manifest error" [Surat Al'-Imran, 164]
3 His wives (peace be upon him) are mothers of the
believers, Allah Almighty said: "The Prophet is closer
to the believers than their own selves, and his wives are
their (believers') mothers (as regards respect and
marriage). And blood relations among each other have
closer personal ties in the Decree of Allah (regarding
inheritance) than (the brotherhood of) the believers and
the Muhajirun (emigrants from Makkah, etc.), except
that you do kindness to those brothers (when the
Prophet joined them in brotherhood ties). This has been
written in the (Allah's Book of Divine) Decrees (Al-
Lauh Al-Mahfuz)." [Surat Al-Ahzab, 6]

)1( Saheeh Al-Bukhaari / Muhammad ibn Isma'il Al-Bukhari

34
4. He is the best of creation (peace and of Allah be upon
him)
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, :
Verily, Allah has chosen Kinanah from the sons of
Ismael, and he has chosen Quraish from Kinanah, and
he has chosen the tribe of Hashim from Quraish, and he
has chosen me from the tribe of Hashim". )1(
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),also, said:
"I am the first for whom the earth will split open on the
day of Resurrection and no boast, and I am chief of the
children of Adam and no boast, and I hold the standard
(banner) of praise and no boast, and I am the first to
enter paradise and no boast, holding the ring of the gate
of paradise and I am admitted, and the face of Almighty
receives me and I prostrate to him" )2(
5. He is mercy to the two worlds, (mankind, jinn, and all
that exists) ,Allah Almighty said :"And We have sent
you (O Muhammad ) not but as a mercy for the Alamin
(mankind, jinns and all that exist)" [Surat Al-Anbiyaa',
107]

Qaisiri al-Nisabouri

6. Security for his nation( peace be upon him); Allah
Almighty said: "And Allah would not punish them
while you (Muhammad ) are amongst them, nor will He
punish them while they seek (Allah's) Forgiveness.
[Surat Al-Anfal, 33]
7. Inclusiveness of his message (peace be upon him) ; Allah
Almighty said:" And We have not sent you (O
Muhammad ) except as a giver of glad tidings and a
warner to all mankind, but most of men know not".
[Surat Saba', 28]
8. Allah Almighty has assured his protection; Allah
Almighty said: "O Messenger (Muhammad )! Proclaim
(the Message) which has been sent down to you from
your Lord. And if you do not, then you have not
conveyed His Message. Allah will protect you from
mankind. Verily, Allah guides not the people who
disbelieve [Surat Al-Maidah, 67], ; Allah Almighty
said: "Truly! We will suffice you against the
scoffers".[Surat Al-Hijr, 95],
9. Forbidding to call him by his name (peace and blessings
of Allah be upon him) and raising the sound above his
voice, Allah Almighty said, " Make not the calling of
the Messenger (Muhammad ) among you as your
calling of one another. Allah knows those of you who
slip away under shelter (of some excuse without taking
the permission to leave, from the Messenger ). And let
those who oppose the Messenger's (Muhammad )

36
commandment (i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts
of worship, statements, etc.) (among the sects) beware,
lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions,
earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant, etc.)
befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them"
[Surat Al-Nour, 63], and Allah Almighty said, "O you
who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of
the Prophet , nor speak aloud to him in talk as you
speak aloud to one another, lest your deeds may be
rendered fruitless while you perceive not [Surat Al-
Hujurat, 2]
10. Impose some of his teachings (peace be upon him) in
heaven:
Narrated Ibn Massoud (may Allah be pleased with
him): "the messenger of Allah was given three things ,
the night of Israa', he was given : the five prayers , the
last verses of Surat Al Baqarah and forgiveness (of fatal
sins) for who ever did not associate any thing or any
one with Allah, from his nation. )1(
11. Continuing to pray upon him (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him), Allah Almighty said:" Allah sends
His Salat (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy, etc.) on
the Prophet (Muhammad ) and also His angels too (ask
Allah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe!

)1( Sahih Muslim / Imam Abu Al-Husayn Muslim bin Hajjaj al-
Qaisiri al-Nisabouri

37
Send your Salat on (ask Allah to bless) him
(Muhammad ), and (you should) greet (salute) him with
the Islamic way of greeting (salutation i.e. As-Salamu
'Alaikum). [Surat Al-Ahzab, 56] and the word praying
requires renewal and continuity.
12. Swear by him (peace be upon him):
 Swear by his life (peace be upon him), Allah Almighty
said:" Verily, by your life (O Muhammad ), in their
wild intoxication, they were wandering blindly" [Surat
Al-Hijr, 72].
 Swear by his town (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him), Allah Almighty said:" I swear by this city
(Makkah); And you are free (from sin, to punish the
enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this
city (Makkah), [Surat Al-Balad, 1-2].
 Swear to him (peace be upon him) he said: "By the star
when it goes down, (or vanishes). Your companion
(Muhammad ) has neither gone astray nor has erred"
[Surat An-Najm 1-2].
13. Israa' and Mi'raaj
At the night journey ( Israa' and Mi'raaj) from Al-
Masjid Al-Haram(at Makkah) to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa in
Jerusalem and then his ascending to the heavens,
Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)
was honored by the following: Allah Almighty spoke to
him, seeing Paradise and Hell , hearing the sound of

38
pens writing destinies, and leading the prayer with the
prophets (Imam), the Messenger of Allah (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have seen me in
a group of prophets.....and time for prayers have come
so I led them....." )1(
14.Allah Almighty gave him total forgiveness, Allah
Almighty said , " That Allah may forgive you your sins
of the past and the future, and complete His Favour on
you, and guide you on the Straight Path" [Surat Al-
Fateh, 2]
15. Delaying his granted prayer (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him), he said: " for every prophet there is
a granted prayer, and every prophet had asked his, and I
delayed my prayer as an intercession to my nation on
the day of Resurrection, it includes , hopefully, who
died since from my nation and didn't associate with

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah
be upon him) said: "who ever sees me has truly seen me
for the devil cannot impersonate me, and the believer's
vision is one part of the forty six parts of the
Prophethood" )2(
18. Many virtues of Muhammad (peace be upon him) :
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah
be upon him) said: "I have been given superiority over
the other prophets: I have been given words which are
concise but comprehensive in meaning ;I have been
helped by fear (in the hearts of enemies); and spoils
have been made lawful to me; earth has been made for
me a place of prayer and purifying; I have been sent to
all mankind and the line of prophets is closed with
me".)3(
19. His knowledge about some unseen events (past and
future) (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):
Narrated Umar: "One day the Prophet stood up amongst

beginning of creation (and talked about everything in
detail) till he mentioned how the people of Paradise will
enter their places and the people of Hell will enter their
places. Some remembered what he had said, and some
forgot it". )1(
6. Some of what Allah has honored His Prophet in the
Hereafter
1. Described him as a witness (peace and blessings of Allah
be upon him), Allah Almighty said : " How (will it be)
then, when We bring from each nation a witness and
We bring you (O Muhammad ) as a witness against
these people?" [Surat An-Nisaa', 41]
2. The first to be resurrected and the first to intercede, and
the first whose intercession will be accepted: The
Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him) said: "I will be the leader of the sons of
Adam on the Day of Resurrection, and the first one for
whom the grave will be opened, and the first to
intercede, and the first whose intercession will be
accepted". )2(

)2( Sahih Muslim / Imam Abu Al-Husayn Muslim bin Hajjaj al-

3. The first to enter paradise:
Anas bin Malik narrated: The Messenger of Allah said:
"I will come to the gate of Paradise on the Day of
Resurrection, and would seek its opening, and the
keeper would say: Who are you? I would say:
Muhammad. He would then say: It is for you that I have
been ordered, and not to open it for anyone before
you".)1(
4. He will have the largest followers:
The Messenger of Allah said: "Amongst the prophets, I
would have the largest following on the Day of
Resurrection, and I would be the first to knock at the
door of Paradise." )2(
5. He is given Al Kauthar (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him), Allah Almighty said: "Verily, we have
granted you (O Muhammad) Al-Kauther (a river in
paradise)" [Surat Al- Kauther, 1].
Narrated Abu Ubaida: I asked Aisha (may Allah be
pleased with her) regarding the Verse "Verily, we have
granted you (O Muhammad) Al-Kauther" she replied:
"the Kauther is a river which has been given to your

pearls and its utensils are as numberless as the stars"
6. Granted him the favor of nearness (to Allah) and
excellence and a place of distinction, and exalt him to a
position of glory:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah
be upon him) said:" Whoever says when he hears the
call for prayers (Athan) " O Allah, Lord of this most
perfect call, and of the Prayer that is about to be
established, grant to Muhammad the favor of nearness
(to You) and excellence and a place of distinction, and
exalt him to a position of glory that You have promised
him." He shall have my intercession on the day of
Judgment) )2(

7. Allah Almighty praising Him ( peace be upon him)

1. He is mercy to the two worlds, (mankind, jinn, and all
that exists), Allah Almighty said :"And We have sent
you (O Muhammad ) not but as a mercy for
the Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exist)" [Surat
Al-Anbiyaa', 107]

)1( Saheeh Al-Bukhaari / Muhammad ibn Isma'il Al-Bukhari

)2( Saheeh Al-Bukhaari / Muhammad ibn Isma'il Al-Bukhari

2. The witness, the bearer of glad tidings ,the Warner and
The shinning lamp ; Allah Almighty said:" O Prophet
(Muhammad ) ,Verily, We have sent you as a witness,
and a bearer of glad tidings, and a Warner. And one
who invites to Allah [Islamic Monotheism, i.e. to
worship none but Allah (Alone)] by His Leave, and as a
lamp spreading light (through your instructions from the
Qur'an and the Sunnah the legal ways of the Prophet ".
[Surat Al-Ahzab, 45-46].
He is a witness on the creation on the day of
Resurrection, a witness of the oneness of Allah, an
advocate for paradise, a harbinger of Hell and a guiding
light.
3. Raised his fame (blessings upon him), Allah Almighty
said:" And raised high your fame" [Surat Al-Sharh, 4].
It is the fame of Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the
first call for prayers (Athan),and in the second call for
prayers (Al-Ikamah) , and in (Tashahud) testifying that
no God but Allah and Muhammad is his Messenger,
which is also the pronunciation of the testimonies, the
first pilar of Islam.

44
8. The testimony of the west to our Prophet
Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon
him) )1(
Some western writers and historians spoke about the
Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), sincerely,
faithfully and objectively, as well as, about Islam and
the Quran, which was descended on the Prophet (peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him).
1. Thomas Carlyle, the Scottish mathematician , historian ,
philosopher and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, dedicated
in his book (Heroes and Hero worship) a special chapter
on our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with
the title of "Hero as Prophet". Carlyle described
Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a great reformer
with high morals and values with strong will and
determination, one that did not think of his personal
benefit, instead, he was thinking of other poor people;
he was not an oppressor in his rulings but an example of
justice. He illuminates the way to others and guides the
stray and spreads the love between the people , and he
was trustworthy in his message and he was an example
of sincerity and standing beside justice in whatever he
does and everything he says. He loves silence, speaks
only if there is a reason to speak and when he speaks he

45
would be wise in his opinions, he sheds light on all the
things he offers.
2. The American physicist and astronomer, Michael Hart
wrote a book about the greatest 100 people in human
history. He put Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon
him) on top of the list of the most influential people in
the world, and that goes without saying since Allah
Almighty praised him on the Holy Quran : "Indeed in
the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad ) you have a good
example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting
with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah
much" [Surat Al-Ahzab, 21]
Michael Hart says that this choice of Prophet
Muhammad (peace be upon him) being on top of the list
of the most influential people in the world may be
surprising to some readers, but he (peace be upon him)
was the only man in history to achieve full success at
the religious level and at the earthly level. Muhammad
(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has laid the
foundation of one of the world's greatest religions and
has spread it despite the very limited resources, and he
became a great political leader with great influence, and
today after more than thirteen centuries of his death, his
influence continues to be strong and widespread.
3. The French orientalist Alphonse Dinet, have written a
book in the prophetic biography and dedicated it to the
spirits of martyrs. Alphonse Dinet embraced Islam in

46
Algeria and declared his Islam saying : "When I
converted to Islam it was not a coincidence, but based
upon complete knowledge and long-term historical
study of all religions.
4. The Irish writer George Bernard Shaw says:" I have
always given the religion of Muhammad (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) a great level of
admiration for his undeniable greatness. I believe that
the religion of Muhammad (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him) is the only religion that suits every
human being and works for all times and is applicable
in any surroundings in this world. And I predict that the
religion of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him) will be accepted in Europe tomorrow as it is
now".
Bernard Shaw, also added:" And I have read a lot about
Muhammad (peace be upon him) and I studied what this
great man calls for, and I like him and say that he
(peace be upon him) was not against Jesus Christ (peace
be upon him), as was believed in the Middle Ages. And
Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)
should be called the savior of mankind. I fully believe
that if a man like of Muhammad (peace and blessings of
the Allah be upon him) were to lead the world today, he
would be able to resolve all the problems that the world
is facing.

The Holy Quran

The Holy Quran: The word of Allah which was descended

on the Messenger of Allah , Muhammad (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) by the revelation of
Gabriel (peace be upon him) , miraculous in its verses,
reciting it is a worship, and it begins with Surat Al-Fatiha
and ends with Surat An-Nas.
It is the great miracle of the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allah be upon him).
Allah Almighty sent down the holy books to his
Messengers (peace be upon them) to call for the religion of
monotheism, to worship Allah alone, and to show the
proper way in this life so that people can live properly in
this life and hereafter, Allah Almighty said addressing his
Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon
him) :" Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the
miracles of the Qur'an, and none but Allah (Alone) knows
their meanings]. Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the
right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One
Who sustains and protects all that exists. It is He Who has
sent down the Book (the Qur'an) to you (Muhammad ) with
truth, confirming what came before it. And he sent down
the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel). [Surat Al-
i'Imran, 1-3].

48
All the holly books have been sent down from the same
source and call for the worship of Allah Almighty alone;
and as we have stated before that all messengers (peace be
upon them) have been sent to specific people, so every
book of those scriptures addresses the people to whom their
messengers were sent. However, the Messenger
Muhammad (peace be upon him) the last (end) of Prophets,
was sent to all mankind , therefore, the Holy Quran that
Allah Almighty sent down to him is the last Holy book and
it include the teachings that came down in the previous
books. Thus, we can say that the Holy Quran is the latest
version of the teachings of the previous Holy books ,
exhaustive and dominant.
Allah Almighty said: "And We have sent down to you (O
Muhammad ) the Book (this Qur'an) in truth, confirming
the Scripture that came before it and Mohayminan
(trustworthy in highness and a witness) over it (old
Scriptures) . So judge between them by what Allah has
revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging away
from the truth that has come to you. To each among you,
We have prescribed a law and a clear way. If Allah willed,
He would have made you one nation, but that (He) may test
you in what He has given you; so strive as in a race in good
deeds. The return of you (all) is to Allah; then He will
inform you about that in which you used to differ"[Surat
Al-Maidah,48]

49
1. Miracles of the Holy Quran
Allah Almighty challenged human beings and jins to come
up with a book like the Holy Quran , Allah Almighty said:"
Say: If the mankind and the jinns were together to produce
the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like
thereof, even if they helped one another) [Surat Al-Isra',
88].
This is because it is sent down from Allah Almighty with
eloquent pronunciations and rhetoric meanings.)1(
The eloquence of the Arabic language in the Holy Quran is
not the only cause of this miracle, but the miracles of the
Qur'an are manifested in many things and topics some of
them are known to us and others are not. There are
scientific miracles, miracles of the universe and miracles in
the creation of man and his body.
Allah Almighty said:" Allah is He Who raised the heavens
without any pillars that you can see. Then, He Istawa (rose
above) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His
Majesty). He has subjected the sun and the moon (to
continue going round)! Each running (its course) for a term
appointed. He regulates all affairs, explaining the Ayat
(proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)
in detail, that you may believe with certainty in the meeting
with your Lord. And it is He Who spread out the earth, and

)1( Zubdet At-Tafaser / Dr. Mohammed Suleiman Abdullah Al-

Ashqar

placed therein firm mountains and rivers and of every kind
of fruits He made Zawjain Ithnain (two in pairs - may mean
two kinds or it may mean: of two sorts, e.g. black and
white, sweet and sour, small and big, etc.) He brings the
night as a cover over the day. Verily, in these things, there
are Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) for people
who reflect [Surat Ar-Ra'd, 2-3].
Also, Almighty said:" And on the earth are signs for those
who have Faith with certainty. And also in your ownselves.
Will you not then see?" [Surat Al-Thariyat, 20-21].
And the miracle is manifested in creation where Allah
Almighty defies the unbelievers, worshipers of idols and
what they worship, he said: "O mankind! A similitude has
been coined, so listen to it (carefully): Verily! Those on
whom you call besides Allah, cannot create (even) a fly,
even though they combine together for the purpose. And if
the fly snatched away a thing from them, they would have
no power to release it from the fly. So weak are (both) the
seeker and the sought"[Surat Al-Hajj, 73]
Neither the unbelievers nor their idols can create a single
fly with its small size and if the flies take something from
their food they cannot take it back because they are weak
and unable to do so.
Another type of miracles in the Holy Quran is telling
unseen events (past and future) , Allah Almighty said:" The
Romans have been defeated. In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq,
Jordan, and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be

50
victorious. Within three to nine years. The decision of the
matter, before and after (these events) is only with Allah,
(before the defeat of Romans by the Persians, and after, i.e.
the defeat of the Persians by the Romans). And on that
Day, the believers (i.e. Muslims) will rejoice (at the victory
given by Allah to the Romans against the Persians" [Surat
Al-Rum, 2-4] ; and telling the news of the Holy Quran
about the former people and the messengers sent to them
and many of the stories contained in other celestial books.
Another kind of Qur'anic miracles is the legislative rules,
as the Quran includes many detailed legislations and
provisions, such as trade, marriage, divorce, inheritance,
penalties for crimes, etc.
2. The Holy Quran: Life's Constitution
The Holy Quran is a constitution by itself and a
comprehensive reference to the individual and the
community and no other is needed for a dignified life and
eternal happiness in the Hereafter.
The following are the provisions of the Quran,
summarized:
1.Worships: The relationship between the creator and the
created, which is the subjection to Allah alone, prayer,
fasting, Zakaah and Hajj. Its entirety is contained in the
Holy Quran and detailed in the Sunnah of the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

52
2. Transactions: it includes , the transactions of sale,
purchase, marriage, divorce and inheritance; detailed in
a wondrous way to ensure the rights of the people.
3. Penalties for crimes, which are two types: equality in
penalties (Alqasas) and the limits set by Allah
(Alhodood).
4. Ethics: the Islamic religion urges good manners, how
not and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him) had been described by Allah
Almighty with good manners, Allah Almighty said:
"And verily, you (O Muhammad ) are on an exalted
standard of character) [Surat Al-Qalam, 4] ; And the
Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said : "I have
been sent to perfect good character".)1(
The Prophet (Peace be upon him), Said: "Verily, the
believer may reach by his character the rank of the one who
regularly fasts and stands for prayer at night")2( , and Abu
Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was
asked ," What enters most people into paradise? The
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
"righteousness and good character), it was asked, what

enters people into Hellfire? The Prophet said:" the two

hollows: the mouth and the genitals".
The Prophet (Peace be upon him), Said:" Verily, the most
beloved and nearest to my gathering on the Day of
Resurrection are those of you with the best character.
Verily, the most reprehensible of you to me and the furthest
from my gathering on the Day of Resurrection will be the
pompous, the extravagant and the pretentious". They said
"O Messenger of Allah, we know the pompous, the
extravagant but who are the pretentious? The Prophet said:"
the arrogant".)2(
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him) had exalted standard of character before he was
given the message of Islam with the testimony of the
Heathens of Quraish. He was sent to complete good
manners and he urged people to have such manners by
saying and through his good deeds.
If every Muslim follows the Holy Quran as his /her guide
and follows the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) as
the good idol, every one will be happy in this life and in the
Hereafter, Allah Almighty said: " Those who believed (in
the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and used to

fear Allah much (by abstaining from evil deeds and sins
and by doing righteous deeds). For them are glad tidings, in
the life of the present world (i.e. righteous dream seen by
the person himself or shown to others), and in the
Hereafter. No change can there be in the Words of Allah,
this is indeed the supreme success". [Surat Younis, 63-64].

3. The knowledge of the Holy Quran

The following verse summarizes what is stated in the Holy
Quran of comprehensive matters, Allah Almighty said:
"And (remember) the Day when We shall raise up from
every nation a witness against them from amongst
themselves. And We shall bring you (O Muhammad ) as a
witness against these. And We have sent down to you the
Book (the Qur'an) as an exposition of everything, a
guidance, a mercy, and glad tidings for those who have
submitted themselves (to Allah as Muslims) [Surat An-
Nahl, 89]
Ibn Jarir and Ibn Abi Hatem reported that Ibn Masood
narrated: "Allah Almighty sent down this book including
and accounting for everything, but our knowledge falls
short of what is included in the Quran")1(.

)1( Zubdet At-Tafaser / Dr. Mohammed Suleiman Abdullah Al-

Ashqar

55
And the word , everything, includes what we know and
what we don't know, this means that only Allah Almighty
knows the interpretation of the Holy Quran; Allah
Almighty said: " It is He Who has sent down to you
(Muhammad ) the Book (this Qur'an). In it are Verses that
are entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book [and
those are the Verses of Al-Ahkam (commandments,
etc.), Al-Fara'id (obligatory duties) and Al-Hudud (legal
laws for the punishment of thieves, adulterers, etc.)]; and
others not entirely clear. So as for those in whose hearts
there is a deviation (from the truth) they follow that which
is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah (polytheism
and trials, etc.), and seeking for its hidden meanings, but
none knows its hidden meanings save Allah. And those
who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in
it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our
Lord." And none receive admonition except men of
understanding. (Tafsir At-Tabari)". [Surat Al-i'Imran, 7];
and says Almighty:"And they ask you (O Muhammad )
concerning the Ruh (the Spirit); Say: "The Ruh (the Spirit):
it is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with
my Lord. And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been
given only a little." [Surat Al-Israa', 85]
The scholars have worked hard to explain and elaborate on
what is stated in the Holy Quran, regarding the issues that
can be comprehended. However, the Divine secrets in the
Holy Quran, the human mind is unable to recognize.

56
Scholars have summed up the knowledge stated in the
)1(
Qur'an in the following :

1. Religion Basics: it is about believing in Allah Almighty,

His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the last day,
fate and destiny, and these are the origin of Islam.
2. Ethics: the part of Quran that inspires and encourages
self-discipline and good manners.
3. Jurisprudence (Al-Fiqh): it is knowledge related to the
legal provisions that govern the actions of humans
including orders, prohibitions and what is available as
choice.
4. Quran Stories: This is about telling about the past nations
with prophets and messengers.
4. Some virtues of the Holy Quran
1. An exalted and entirely clear book, Allah Almighty
said:" And Verily, it (this Qur'an) is in the Mother of the
Book (i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz), before Us, indeed
Exalted, full of Wisdom" [Surat Az-Zukhruf, 4], that is,
the Quran is in the Preserved Tablet (Al-Lawh Al-
Mahfooth) of Allah Almighty, a high-status and
glorious book , in which there is no disagreement and
no contradiction, as Allah Almighty said:" Do they not
then consider the Qur'an carefully? Had it been from

)1( Konooz Al-Quran / Rashid Ghuzlan.

57
other than Allah, they would surely have found therein
much contradictions". [Surat An-Nisa' , 82]
2. A preserved book, said Allah Almighty:" Verily We: It
is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur'an)
and surely, We will guard it (from corruption)" [Surat
Al-Hijr, 9]
3. The best of the talk, Allah Almighty said:"Allah has sent
down the best statement, a Book (this Qur'an), its parts
resembling each other in goodness and truth, oft-
repeated. The skins of those who fear their Lord shiver
from it (when they recite it or hear it). Then their skin
and their heart soften to the remembrance of Allah. That
is the guidance of Allah. He Guides therewith whom He
pleases and whomever Allah sends astray, for him there
is no guide" [Surat Az-Zumar, 23]
It is absolutely best of talk because of the blessings it
includes. Qatadah said: This is the description of the
followers of Allah (Aulia' Allah), describing them as
their skins shiver and their hearts find rest to the
remembrance of Allah, and that is a proof of piety (fear
of Allah Almighty) )1(.

)1( Zubdet At-Tafaser / Dr. Mohammed Suleiman Abdullah Al-

Ashqar

58
4. Healing and Mercy for believers
Allah Almighty said:" And We send down from the
Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who
believe (in Islamic Monotheism and act on it), and it
increases the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)
nothing but loss". [Surat Al-Isaa', 82], the Quran is a
cure for the hearts by the removal of ignorance , doubt,
suspicion and astray.
5. Reading the Quran and keeping it and working according
to it results in high rewards , blessings and raising status
(in Paradise) , Abu Huirrah (may Allah be pleased with
him) said:" I said O Messenger of Allah recommend to
me; He said, "It is imperative for you to have piety (fear
of Allah Almighty) for it is the head of the matter. And
maintain the recitation of His Book , for it is light for
you on earth and (a means by which) you will be
)1(
mentioned in the heavens.
And, Uthman bin Affan ( May Allah be pleased with
him) reported: that the Messenger of Allah (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The best of you
are those who learn the Quran and teach it." )2(

)1( At-Targheeb Wat-Tarheeb / Imam Al-Hafiz Abdul Azim bin

Abdul Qawi Al-Mundhari
)2( Saheeh Al-Bukhaari / Muhammad ibn Isma'il Al-Bukhari

59
Umar Ibn Al-Khattab ( May Allah be pleased with
him) said:" Your Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah
be upon him) said: "Verily, Allah raises the status of
)1(
people with this book and by it he humbles others".

5. Translation of the Holy Quran and translation of its

meanings
The scholars has been unanimous that the Holy Quran
may not be translated as a literal or verbal translation,
and the Quran cannot be read without the Arabic tongue
whether during praying or not.
The fulfillment of all the Qur'anic meanings and the
inclusion of all intents in the verses is not accessible by
translation.
One of the purposes of the Holy Quran is that it must be
recited and rewards achieved only when read in Arabic.
The translation of the interpretation and meanings of the
Quran, however, is permissible because it is an
explanation of the meaning in other languages.
Scholars has authorized the translation of the
interpretation of the Quran or what they call interpretive
translation.)2(

Qaisiri al-Nisabouri

61
6. Sayings of some philosophers and scholars about the
Holy Quran:
The Holy Quran does not need the testimony of any
human being since it is the word of Allah Almighty the
creator of the human beings and the creator of
everything. However, the testimony of non-Muslim
famous intellectuals may be the gateway to other
thinkers and the general non-Muslim public to walk on
the path of guidance and know the teachings of Islam.
May they be guided to the true religion for the sake of
their own good in this life and the Hereafter.
1. Dr. Maurice Bucaille, a French surgeon who learned
Arabic and the Holy Quran, says: "Islam is a religion
brought by a brilliant man, Muhammad (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him). I studied Quran in
depth and with the guidance of Allah and i had a feeling
in my soul that the Quran is the word of Allah Almighty
inspired by the end of Prophets Muhammad (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him).
While studying the Quran thoroughly, I found no
scientific fallacy, but on the contrary, I felt that the
higher truths existed in the Qur'an since 1400 year and
it is above the absorptive capacity of the ordinary man
and this is proof that the Holy Quran is the word of

60
Allah Almighty and it is in some locations beyond the
)1(
level of any genius or philosopher".
2. Dr. Allison Palmer, an American geologist , said " the
Quran contains scientific facts and secrets the human
mind is unconscious of, and unable to interpret; verily,
it is the book of the past, the present and the future. The
Qur'an descended fourteen centuries ago at a time when
life was simple and primitive and Muhammad (peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him) knew nothing of
science, and then comes the Quran with all these truths
affirmed by science in the twentieth century, the Quran
must be a revelation from Allah and Muhammad must
be the Messenger of Allah". )2(
3. The historian, politician and member of the British
Parliament, Edward Gibbon , said that the Quran was
recognized from the Atlantic Ocean to the Ganges not
only as the basic constitution of the origins of religion,
but also for the civil criminal provisions and the laws
governing the life of the human race derived from
divine rulings. )3(

)2( Konooz Al-Quran / Rashid Ghuzlan.

62
Throughout History, many scholars, philosophers,
intellectuals, politicians and other non-Muslims have
made fair statements about the Holy Quran and Islam in
general. Some of them converted to Islam and declared
their Islam and some of them did not declare Islam but
their statements show that they became Muslims and
others only praise the Quran and Islam from the
perspective of specialization or inclusiveness but still on
their belief.
And in this regard, Allah Almighty said:" And to recite
the Qur'an, so whosoever receives guidance, receives it
for the good of his ownself, and whosoever goes astray,
say (to him): "I am only one of the warners." [Surat An-
Naml, 92]
And Allah Almighty said:"Verily! You (O Muhammad)
guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He
wills. And He knows best those who are the guided"
[Surat Al-Qasas, 56]

63
Islamic Religion

The definition of Islam is the submissiveness, subjugation,

acquisition, surrender, and the compliance with the orders
and prohibitions of Allah Almighty without objection.
Allah Almighty has given the true religion its name, Islam,
because it is obedience to Allah Almighty and docility to
him without objection, and devoting worship to him. Islam
became the name of the religion that Muhammad (peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him) had brought.
Pillars of Islam:
Reported, Abdullah bin Umar ( May Allah be pleased with
them), said the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him): "Islam is built on five pillers: bearing witness
that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the
Messenger of Allah , establishing prayer , paying Zakaah ,
Hajj and fasting Ramadan". )1(

Pillars of Faith:
Reported, Umar Ibn Al-Khattab ( May Allah be pleased
with him), the time when Gabriel (peace be upon him) sat
down with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be

)1( Saheeh Al-Bukhaari / Imam Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Isma'il

Al-Bukhari.

64
upon him) and asked him about Islam, faith and Ihsan,
where he said, "Tell me about faith." He said to believe in
Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the last day
)1(
and the believe in fate and destiny both good and bad".

Both the Pillars of Islam, associated with the actions, and

the pillars of faith, associated the Heart, must be fulfilled in
order to comply with the orders of Allah Almighty. Allah
Almighty said: " The believers are only those who, when
Allah is mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when His
Verses (this Qur'an) are recited unto them, they (i.e. the
Verses) increase their Faith; and they put their trust in their
Lord (Alone);Who perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and
spend out of that We have provided them. It is they who are
the believers in truth. For them are grades of dignity with
their Lord, and Forgiveness and a generous provision
(Paradise)" [Surat Al-Anfal, 2-4].
A human being may fulfill the pillars of Islam: bearing
witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad
is the Messenger of Allah , establishing prayer , paying
Zakaah , Hajj and fasting Ramadan, and the pillars of faith:
to believe in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers
, the last day and to believe in fate and destiny both good
and bad, but he may not comply with other provisions of
the Holy Quran which are transactions (selling, buying and

)1( Sahih Muslim / Imam Abu Al-Husayn Muslim bin Hajjaj al-
Qaisiri al-Nisabouri.

65
inheritance, etc.) and morals in his dealings with other
people.
By doing so, that human being have separated religion
from daily life. Although he performs all worships , his bad
dealings with other people take him away from religion.
We see some people despite of their commitment to
worships, they take the money from people through scam
and fraud and by cheating and deceiving and lying. Some
people pray , fast , pay Az-Zakaah and perform Hajj ,and
no one is safe from their tongues through backbiting and
gossip and envy and these are all sins that go beyond being
small sins.
Allah Almighty said: "And eat up not one another's
property unjustly (in any illegal way e.g. stealing, robbing,
deceiving, etc.), nor give bribery to the rulers (judges
before presenting your cases) that you may knowingly eat
up a part of the property of others sinfully"[Surat Al-
Baqarah, 188], and said, "O you who believe! Avoid much
suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not,
neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat
the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate
backbiting) . And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who
accepts repentance, Most Merciful [Surat Al-Hujurat, 12]
Allah Almighty described backbiting as a from of eating
the dead human flesh because the dead person does not
know he is being eaten and the live person does not know

66
he is being talked about in his absence , and cannot defend
himself in both cases.
Allah Almighty said: " And obey not everyone who swears
much, and is considered worthless. A slanderer, going
about with calumnies".[ Surat Al-Qalam,10-11].
This means, don't obey any person with the above
mentioned traits who walks by gossiping between people to
spoil their relations. )1( In this regard, Allah Almighty also
said: "Woe to every slanderer and backbiter [Surat Al-
Humzah, 1]. Meaning, torment or humiliation to everyone
who detracts a person in his presence and everyone who
detracts a person in his absence; and could means everyone
who detracts by the sign of his eye or his hand and
everyone who detracts others by saying. )2(
Therefore, a true Muslim must preserve the rights and the
honor of other people as well as performing the worships
so that he may survive the torment of Allah Almighty.
 The influence of Islam on Society
Most Arabs before Islam worshipped idols, and there were
remains of the Monotheism religion followed by some
individuals and groups until Allah Almighty sent the end of
Prophets Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be

)1( Zubdet At-Tafaser / Dr. Mohammed Suleiman Abdullah Al-

Ashqar.
)2( Zubdet At-Tafaser / Dr. Mohammed Suleiman Abdullah Al-
Ashqar.

67
upon him) to get people out of the darkness of ignorance to
the light of faith and knowledge, Allah Almighty said: "He
it is Who sent among the unlettered ones a Messenger
(Muhammad ) from among themselves, reciting to them
His Verses, purifying them (from the filth of disbelief and
polytheism), and teaching them the Book (this Qur'an,
Islamic laws and Islamic jurisprudence) and Al-
Hikmah (As-Sunnah: legal ways, orders, acts of worship,
etc. of Prophet Muhammad ). And verily, they had been
before in manifest error". [Surat Al-Jumu'ah, 2]
Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon
him) began to raise the individuals who entered Islam and
taught them Quran and Sunnah until Islam had spread
widely on the Arabian Peninsula. The spread of Islam has
had a significant impact on the transformation of
society, such as, the spirit of equality and brotherhood
among Muslims. The manifestations of tribalism, and
discrimination on the basis of race, colour and descent have
become blurred and piety and righteousness have become
the measure of significance. Allah Almighty said: "O
mankind! We have created you from a male and a female,
and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know
one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah
is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of
the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2)]. Verily, Allah is All-
Knowing, All-Aware" [Surat Al-Hujurat, 13]; This is a
discourse for all people and not just Arabs.

68
When the Islamic community applied the orders of Allah
Almighty presented in the Holy Quran and Sunnah,
security, justice and prosperity in society prevailed. Allah
Almighty said:" Verily, Allah enjoins Al-Adl (i.e. justice
and worshipping none but Allah Alone - Islamic
Monotheism) and Al-Ihsan [i.e. to be patient in performing
your duties to Allah, totally for Allah's sake and in
accordance with the Sunnah (legal ways) of the Prophet in
a perfect manner], and giving (help) to kith and kin (i.e. all
that Allah has ordered you to give them e.g., wealth,
visiting, looking after them, or any other kind of help, etc.):
and forbids Al-Fahsha' (i.e all evil deeds, e.g. illegal sexual
acts, disobedience of parents, polytheism, to tell lies, to
give false witness, to kill a life without right, etc.), and Al-
Munkar (i.e all that is prohibited by Islamic law:
polytheism of every kind, disbelief and every kind of evil
deeds, etc.), and Al-Baghy (i.e. all kinds of oppression), He
admonishes you, that you may take heed" [Surat An-Nahl,
90].
 Islam is a Necessity
To embrace Islam and to follow its teachings is a necessity
that cannot be overlooked for the clarity of the evidence;
and some of this evidence:
1. Allah Almighty said:" Truly, the religion with Allah is
Islam. Those who were given the Scripture (Jews and
Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual jealousy,
after knowledge had come to them. And whoever

69
disbelieves in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs,
revelations, etc.) of Allah, then surely, Allah is Swift in
calling to account" [Surat Al-I'Imran, 19]
2. Allah Almighty said:" And whoever seeks a religion
other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and
in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers" [Surat Al-
I'Imran, 85]
3. A good life in this world and eternal happiness in the
Hereafter, Allah Almighty said:" Whoever works
righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or
she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily,
to him We will give a good life (in this world with
respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We
shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the
best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the
Hereafter" [Surat An-Nahl, 97]
4. Allah Almighty saying about who turned away from
Allah's religion and reciting the Quran and working
according to it, Allah Almighty said:" But whosoever
turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in
this Qur'an nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is
a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on
the Day of Resurrection" [Surat Taha, 124]; so Allah
Almighty threatened whoever turned away from his
guidance to have a narrow living in life and to be blind

71
in the day of Resurrection , a blind man who does not
)1(
have sight or excuse.
 Islam of the People of the Book
Allah Almighty said about the people of the book:"
Those to whom We gave the Scripture [i.e. the Taurat
(Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel), etc.] before it, - they
believe in it (the Qur'an). And when it is recited to
them, they say: "We believe in it. Verily, it is the truth
from our Lord. Indeed even before it we have been from
those who submit themselves to Allah in Islam as
Muslims (like 'Abdullah bin Salam and Salman Al-
Farisi, etc.).These will be given their reward twice over,
because they are patient, and repel evil with good, and
spend (in charity) out of what We have provided
them".[Surat Al-Qasas, 52-54].
Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him)
narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings
of Allah be upon him) said:"three types of people will
be given their reward twice over; a person from the
people of the book , one who believed in his prophet
and then believed in me ……". )2(

)1( Zubdet At-Tafaser / Dr. Mohammed Suleiman Abdullah Al-

Ashqar.
)2( Saheeh Al-Bukhaari / Sahih Muslim

70
Allah Almighty said: "And if only the people of the
Scripture (Jews and Christians) had believed (in
Muhammad ) and warded off evil (sin, ascribing partners to
Allah) and had become Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2)
We would indeed have blotted out their sins and admitted
them to Gardens of pleasure (in Paradise). [Surat Al-
Mai'dah, 65].
So whoever embraces Islam from the people of the
scriptures (Jews and Christians) will go to Heaven and be
given a double reward.
 Wrong Ideas about Islam
1. War and Jihad :
The Islamic religion is not a religion of war, it is a religion
of peace, so the Islamic "Sharia" made peace the basis of
treatment between Muslims and others and made the war as
a response to aggression and to the preservation of religion,
homelands, people and properties.
Allah Almighty said:" Allah does not forbid you to deal
justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on
account of religion and did not drive you out of your
homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity. It is
only as regards those who fought against you on account of
religion, and have driven you out of your homes, and
helped to drive you out, that Allah forbids you to befriend
them. And whosoever will befriend them, then such are

72
the Zalimun (wrong-doers those who disobey Allah).[Surat
Al-Mumtahanah, 8-9]
The second motive of the Jihad is to secure the path of the
call to Allah Almighty, but without coercion. The high
morality of the Muslims who vowed themselves to the
religion of Allah was a great reason for spreading the
Islamic religion to the far lands.
2. Islamic Legislation:
Islamic legislation is based on two main sources, the Holy
Quran and the Sunnah, then comes juristic projection
(Ijtihad) for newly developed issues. This makes Islam a
religion for all times and places.
Islamic legislation contains the rewards of the compliant
and obedient and the punishment of offending sinners in
this life and in the Hereafter. Furthermore, Islamic
legislation only rules in the interest of Muslims since this
heavenly legislation is for their own benefit whether they
know it or not, because it encompasses their present and
future, and their apparent and concealed interests, which
urges the followers of Islam to accept this legislation and to
act according to it on their own will.)1( Especially since they
are aware that the legislator and the referee is Allah
Almighty.

)1( Al-Madkhal Fee Alfikeh Al-Islami / Dr. Sheikh Mohammed

Mustafa Shalaby.

73
Secular legislations, however, could not live up to Islamic
legislations because they deal with the obvious and they
could be right or they could be wrong because they were
derived from human experience. Making the motivation to
comply with them only the fear of retribution and not the
desire for reward. And in this case impunity is easier since
it is worldly and not governed by a religious deterrent.
3. Freedom: Islam laid down the rules of freedom in an era
dominated by slavery and racism.
-Freedom of Belief and faith: Allah Almighty said:"
There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path
has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever
disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, then he has
grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never
break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower [Surat Al-
Baqarah, 256].
-Freedom of opinion: the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon
him) said: "Don't be flunkey, you say, if people did good
we will do good, and if they did injustice we will do
injustice; instead adapt your selves, if people did good then
do good and if they did bad then do not do injustice" )1(;
this hadeeth calls not only for freedom of opinion but also
for the formation of an independent personality.

)1( At-Targheeb Wat-Tarheeb / Imam Al-Hafiz Abdul Azim bin

Abdul Qawi Al-Mundhari

74
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him) also said:"….. let no fear of people prevent a
man to tell the truth if he knew it......" )1(
4. Women's Rights in Islam
In most old cultures, if not all, the woman was a
subordinate to the man and may have the rights of a minor
through the jurisdiction of the father or the husband. She
had so limited care that she was considered a second-class
creature sold and bought in some civilizations and could be
buried alive as a child as was practiced in the Arabian
Peninsula.
In modern times, women have acquired some of their
personal rights only at the end of the 19th century and the
beginning of the twentieth century.
Islam granted women the rights enshrined in the Holy
Quran, which was sent down to Muhammad (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) in the sixth century A.D. ,
and therefore, Islam have granted women their rights
centuries before the west gave women some of their
rights)2(.

)1( Al-Jame' As-Saheh / Imam Abu Isa Mohammed bin Isa bin Surah
Al-Tirmidhi.
)2( Al-Islam Fee Qafas Al-Itiham / Dr. Shawki Abu Khalil.

75
It is the justice of Allah Almighty which made the equality
between men and women in everything except in some
obvious differences, such as the physical and psychological
nature, pregnancy, childbirth and child raising as well as
the different responsibilities of men.
- Inheritance:
In Islam the Woman is exempt from financial burdens
before and after marriage. Before marriage, her father is
obliged to spend on her and after marriage, spending on her
and her children becomes the responsibility of the husband.
Some scholars consider that women are more fortunate in
inheritance than men. While women taking five shares and
save them , better than men taking ten shares and spend
them. )1( While the man is responsible to support the wife
and children, in return, the wife has no due financial
responsibility.
Thus, the husband is supposed to work to earn money for
everyday-life needs. The wife has a duty to take care of her
husband and to raise her children. This is the opposite of
what we see today from a working woman who leaves the
house to go to work and returns home with her husband or
after him and leaves the upbringing of the children to the
maid or babysitter. This has a significant impact on the
children's personality in childhood and in adulthood.

)1( Al-Islam Fee Qafas Al-Itiham / Dr. Shawki Abu Khalil.

76
Therefore, we see the wise legislation of Allah Almighty
which gives the male twice the female's share of the
inheritance, for the substantial financial responsibilities
entrusted to him and for which he is legally responsible.
- Polygamy:
Allah Almighty said:" You will never be able to do perfect
justice between wives even if it is your ardent desire, so do
not incline too much to one of them (by giving her more of
your time and provision) so as to leave the other hanging
(i.e. neither divorced nor married). And if you do justice,
and do all that is right and fear Allah by keeping away from
all that is wrong, then Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most
Merciful" [Surat An-Nisaa', 129] ; Allah Almighty, also,
said:" And if you fear that you shall not be able to deal
justly with the orphan-girls, then marry (other) women of
your choice, two or three, or four but if you fear that you
shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one or
(the captives and the slaves) that your right hands possess.
That is nearer to prevent you from doing injustice"[Surat
An-Nisaa', 3]
Basically, in Islam, a man is to marry one wife unless
otherwise necessary. Polygamy is considered a solution to
the increase in the number of women, especially after the
wars. Furthermore, there is no doubt that it is better for a
woman to marry a married man than to stay without a
husband, especially in difficult living conditions, and for

77
these and other reasons, Islam allowed men to marry more
than one wife.
- Right to chose a spouse:
Islam has given the woman the right to chose her future
husband. The parents must consult their daughter and take
her consent. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with
him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him) said: " A previously married woman
should not be given in marriage except after consulting her;
and a virgin should not be given in marriage except after
her permission." The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah:
How can we know her permission?" He said, "Her silence
(indicates her permission)." )1(
- The Veil (Al- Hijab):
The veil is the best means to protect women from the
inferior view as being a mere body and sex object, so Islam
has honored women by the veil. This is befitting of a
respectable woman who is a virtuous mother , a righteous
wife, who is the best of the worldly gifts and the daughter
whose father accompanies the Messenger of Allah (peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him) in paradise if he raised
her well.

4. Muslims Treatment to non-Muslims:
Some non-Muslims may be subjected to ill-treatment or
may observe misconduct or bad manners from some
Muslims and this may be used as a reflection of Islam's
image on individuals and groups' actions. But the fact is ,
Islam is not to be blamed, it is the fault in the people
themselves. If such people were truly Muslim, they would
not have ill-behaved either with Muslims or with others.
Muslims should have good ethics and morals wherever
they go to give the right picture of a true Muslim.
We have heard many stories of people in foreign countries
embracing Islam as a result of dealings with Muslims who
are honest, good and sincere.

Death, Souls and the Life of the Barzakh

Death in the Arabic language is stillness ( every thing still

has died))1( , and it is said that death is losing strength)2(,
and death in Islamic Sharia is the spirit leaving the body )3(.
Death is the inevitable truth for every creature, Allah
Almighty said:" And invoke not any other ilah (god) along
with Allah, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be
worshipped but He). Everything will perish save His Face.
His is the Decision, and to Him you (all) shall be returned
[Surat Al-Qasas, 88],
Allah Almighty ,also said:" Everyone shall taste death.
And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your
wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire
and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life
of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a
deceiving thing) [Surat Al-i'Imran, 185].

According to the world's accredited sources , the longest
human lifespan, in modern times, is that of Jeanne
Calment of France who lived to the age of (122 years 164
days).
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated
that the prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him) said:" The ages of my nation will be between
sixty and seventy, and few of them will exceed that" )2(
So no matter how long as human will live, his destiny will
be death even if he tries to escape from it.
Allah Almighty said:" Say (to them): "Verily, the death
from which you flee will surely meet you, then you will be
sent back to (Allah), the All-Knower of the unseen and the
seen, and He will tell you what you used to do [surat Al-
Jumu'ah, 8]
This verse signifies the inevitability of death and post-
death, and the afterlife in which reckoning takes place.
We have previously said, that the definition of death is the
spirit leaving the body, but what is the spirit?

Allah Almighty said:"And they ask you (O Muhammad )
concerning the Ruh (the Spirit); Say: "The Ruh (the Spirit):
it is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with
my Lord. And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been
given only a little." [Surat Al-Israa', 85]
This is irrefutable proof that science has not and will not
be able to know what the spirit is.
The Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (May Allah have
mercy on him) stated in his book "The Spirit" that justice of
Allah Almighty requires to delight the bodies and spirits of
his believers and to torture the bodies and spirits of his
enemies in the afterlife, and that this life is the test and not
the payday.
Al-Barzakh ( a barrier between this life and the Hereafter
and the period between human death until the day of
Resurrection) is the first stage of the afterlife. The torment
or delights in Al-Barzakh are the first torment or delights of
the afterlife, and it is derived from it and it reaches the
people in Al- Barzakh as indicated in the Holy Quran and
Sunnah , the Prophet (peace be upon him) said about the
believer: (….. open a door for him to Heaven, and dress
him from Paradise, He said: He feels the delights of

82
paradise) ; and about the infidel: (….. open a door for him
)1(
to Hell, He said: He feels the heat and torment of Hell).

Believers in Allah Almighty who have done righteous in

life are unlike the ones of bad deeds in their lives and their
death and on the day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty said:
"Or do those who earn evil deeds think that We shall hold
them equal with those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah
Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, in their
present life and after their death? Worst is the judgment
that they make [Surat Al-Jathiah, 21] and, Allah Almighty
said: " Verily, those who say: "Our Lord is Allah (Alone),"
and then they Istaqamu (became straight) , on them the
angels will descend (at the time of their death) (saying):
"Fear not, nor grieve! But receive the glad tidings of
Paradise which you have been promised! [Surat Fusilat ,30]
The verses above indicate that honest believers live good
lives and when they die, their souls come out easily from
their bodies like a drop of water dripping from a leather
flask. The souls of the infidels, on the other hand, come out
as hard as pulling a skewer from wet wool.)2(

The End of Life and the Day of Resurrection

We mentioned in the chapter "The Beginning of Creation"

that life is a test for humans during their relatively short
life, and the test must end and the results are then
evaluated; Allah Almighty said:" Who has created death
and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed.
And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving [Surat Al-
Mulk, 2]
Some verses of Surat An-Najm summarize life in a few
words, Allah Almighty said:" And that man can have
nothing but what he does (good or bad) , And that his deeds
will be seen, Then he will be recompensed with a full and
the best recompense and that to your Lord (Allah) is the
End (Return of everything). [Surat An-Najm, 39-42]
So this test will end with the death of the human being,
individuals and groups until the time, that Allah Almighty
specified, comes to end life for all creatures, and to begin
the new stage which is the day of resurrection and afterlife.
Then the actions of humans in this life, of good and evil,
will be evaluated and they will be given what they deserve,
either punishment or reward; this is apparent in the words
of Allah Almighty:" Everyone shall taste death. And only
on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in
full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and
admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of

84
this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving
thing)" [Surat Al-i'Imran, 185]
The belief in Allah Almighty and good actions in life lead
to a good life in this world and to the delights of Paradise in
the afterlife, Allah Almighty said : "Whoever works
righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is
a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We
will give a good life (in this world with respect,
contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them
certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they
used to do(i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)"[Surat Al-Nahl,
97]
As we have stated in the chapter "What is Life ?", if a
person lives his life away from the teachings of the Islamic
religion and the faith in Allah Almighty and good conduct,
his life will have no meaning because after a short life he
will die and lose every thing he owns.
Even worse, in the Hereafter, he will find varieties of
torment and misery in Hell.
On the bright side, Allah Almighty has promised the
righteous believers an eternal life in Paradise with eternal
delights, Allah Almighty said:" But those who believe (in
the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism) and do deeds
of righteousness, We shall admit them to the Gardens under
which rivers flow (i.e. in Paradise) to dwell therein
forever. Allah's Promise is the Truth, and whose words can
be truer than those of Allah? (Of course, none [Surat An-
Nisaa', 122]
