COMPUTATIONS
Exercise 1: In Figure 4.1, find the value of 𝑅𝑍 that would make the bridge balanced if 𝑅𝑋
is 10 ohms, 𝑅𝑊 is 5 ohms and 𝑅𝑌 is 10 ohms.
𝑅𝑊 𝑅𝑌 = 𝑅𝑍 𝑅𝑋
𝑅𝑊 𝑅𝑌 (5Ω)(10Ω)
𝑅𝑍 = = = 𝟓Ω
𝑅𝑋 (10Ω)
1. The 0 volt reading showing in the voltmeter means that the bridge circuit is
balanced.
2. The voltmeter reading moves out from zero reading because the values of the
resistance in the circuit changes thus this changes makes the bridge circuit
imbalanced.
3. RZRX = RWRY
RWRY 𝑅3 𝑅2
RZ = = R RH =
RX 𝑅1
R 3 R 2 (400Ω)(200Ω)
R RH = = = 800Ω
R1 (100Ω)
The bridge circuit is made up of two voltage divider circuits; the left-hand and the right-
hand side. The bridge circuit is said to be balanced if the voltage that would appear
across terminals “a” and “b” is zero (0) volts. In our experiment we are asked to
measure the resistances and balance the circuit using the potentiometer. The balancing
Conclusion:
The best-known bridge circuit, the Wheatstone bridge is the one we used in the
experiment. After accomplishing our experiment, I can conclude that the bridge circuit
can be called balanced when the voltage reading is zero (0) volts. When one of the four
resistance is changed, the bridge circuit will lose its balance and will not give you an
output voltage equal to zero (0) volt. As to bring back the balance of the circuit, we have
to toggle the knob of the potentiometer and make the voltmeter reading to zero to said
