Applications
The acetate of sodium is used in the textile industry to neutralize the residual currents
of sulphuric acid, and as fotorresistente when colourings anilines are used. Also it is
used as agent of pickle in the tanning by chrome, and helps to retard the vulcanization
of the cloropreno in the synthetic production of rubber.
It is the chemical compound that gives flavor to the fried potatoes. It is in the habit of
adding to the food as preservingly; in this case it is named like diacetato of sodium and
is labelled like E262.
As base brought together of a weak acid, a dissolution of acetate of sodium and acetic
acid it can operate as dissolution tampon to keep the pH relatively constant. This is
specially useful in biochemistry, where the reactions depend on the pH.
Also there is in use in the thermal bags autoactivables (" warm ice "). When there warm
up crystals of acetate of sodium trihidratado (point of merger 58 °C) (it is necessary to
to put crystals until it could not dissolve mas) about 100 °C, these are fused. If it cools
after this process, there is obtained a dissolution supersaturated of acetate of sodium in
water. This dissolution is capable of cooling to temperature set, that is to say, below his
point of merger, without forming crystals. Pressing on a metallic disc of the interior of
the bag, there is formed a center of nucleation that causes the crystallization of the
dissolution in acetate of solid sodium.
Synthesis
The acetate of sodium is very economic, and is bought commonly to the distributors of
chemical products, instead of being synthesized in the laboratory. It is produced often in
the laboratory experimentally by the reaction of the acetic acid by Carbonate of sodium,
Bicarbonate of sodium, or Hydroxide of sodium to name a few bases that contain
Sodium.
PROCEDIMIENTO
1. Put when some boil 500cc of water in a small pan.
2. When the water breaks in boiling add acetate of sodium in the shape of
rain up to achieving that the water is saturated
4. It extinguishes the fire and leave it to cool, then trasvasa the liquid
obtained to a glass container.
