ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR: -

CARE / SUPPORT WORKER (Domiciliary Care)

Responsible To: - Manager / Duty Manager

JOB SUMMARY

To support the service user to live a dignified and independent life within the
community. This may include provision of personal, emotional, social and
physical support on a 24-hour basis or shift rota system.

Principle Responsibilities.

1) To ensure the good name of the Agency and behave in a professional


manner while on duty.

2) To assist the service user in their day to day living within their own
home, promoting independence and diversity in their lives in
accordance with the service user care plan.

3) To assist service users with personal care, including getting up /going


to bed, washing, bathing, dressing/undressing and toileting.

4) To assist service users with mobility problems and other physical


disabilities, including incontinence and help in the use and care of aids
and personal equipment.

5) To care for service users who are temporarily sick, for example with
minor dressings, bed nursing, help with feeding etc.

6) To help care for service users who are dying.

7) To help the promotion of mental and physical activity of service users


through talking to them, sharing activities such as reading, writing and
hobbies, taking them out for recreational/social, educational and
employment activities.

8) To do light cleaning tasks such as, changing beds, tidying rooms,


laundry (washing & repairing), empty commodes.

9) Planning, preparing and serving meals, feed service users who need
assistance, wash up tidy away and clean kitchen / dining room.

10) Answer the door, telephone and greet visitors.


11) To read and write reports, take part in staff meetings.

12) Attend formal and informal training opportunities to enhance


understanding of service users’ needs and abilities.

13) To adhere to the policies, procedures and guidelines of the Agency.

14) To perform other duties as may be reasonably required.

15) To report significant changes in the service users health and


circumstances, to the duty manager.

16) To handle finances for the service user as documented in the service
users care plan.

17) To assist with medication once training has been undertaken and as
documented in the service user care plan.

18) To inform the Agency if you are unable to attend an assignment.

19) To ensure you correctly complete your timesheet, get it signed by the
service user and leave the blue copy with them. The white and green
copies are to be returned to the office no later than mid-day every
Wednesday (a list of deadlines will be issued to you every year)

Training and Development

It is a requirement of this post that you commence the Diploma in


health & social care (adult) Level 2 within 6 months.

You will be required to attend training as and when required to update


your skills and knowledge.
