San Diego, CA, October 02, 2010 -- Symbolic Collection announced today Singer ha s been named Botanical Artist in Residence during 2010 at the Huntington Botanic al Garden in Pasadena and will be recognized during a reception on October 18. I n addition to this honor, Dr. Singer has created a set of images exclusively for the Huntington known as the Huntington 100 or the H100. A truly eccentric artist, Singer has an eye for capturing nature with his Hassel blad digital camera to produce images that look like the product of old master p ainters of the 1600s. Singer is recipient of the Linnaeus silver medal and has b een recognized for marrying art and science. He became the first photographer in history and fourth American to earn this award in its 104 year history. Singer is the recipient of a Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography, the photographer's equivalent of the Nobel Prize. Known for his exquisite large-scale prints in Botanica Magnifica, a five-volume set of books that feature single blooms of 250 of the world’s rarest plants create d and presented only for the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. “Just as the finest classical painter attempted to make his brush stroke invisible , I attempt to capture these botanical specimens with a clarity and humility bec oming an instrument serving a higher force,” said Singer. “Many of the most unusual species seen in Botanica Magnifica seem to be alien life forms but really are tr ue treasures of our home planet.” In September 2009, Singer joined with Dr. Kress and Hachadourian to create a col laborative book called Botanica Magnifica: Portraits of the World’s Most Extraordi nary Flowers and Plants (Abbeville Press, September 2009). The book features pho tographs by Singer and text by Dr. Kress and Hachadourian.
