1 Introduction
Halliburton (“Client”) has engaged Oceanergy (“Consultant”) to perform engineering for conversion of Offshore Supply
vessel (OSV) to Well Stimulation Vessel (WSV). The structural, machinery, electrical, mechanical and statutory
modifications are to be carried out on the vessel to comply with the tender requirements of ONGC, Indian Registrar of
Shipping and Directorate General of Shipping. The vessel is to be in accordance with the requirements of Classification
society and applicable statutory requirements.
This report assesses the structural integrity of 2 identical Hose Reel foundations, each installed on the port and starboard
side on Main Deck of the vessel as shown below in Figure 1.

2 Summary
2.1 General
The hose reel foundation on main deck is for mounting the hose reel which weighs approximately 58T as per Halliburton
inputs. A maximum moment of 100Tm and maximum vertical force of 120T is applied on top of hose reel foundation. Commented [AP1]: In accordance to max experienced as
The hose reel foundation is modeled with the existing vessel structure – main deck and under deck stiffening. per IRS or HAL inputs ?? Always mention the basis of these
Appropriate mathematical restrains and boundary conditions are applied in finite element model to stimulate the actual values calculated explicitly
behavior as indicated in below Chapter 8.2 in the analysis.
The results indicate that the hose reel foundation of material AH-36 is sufficient to support the hose reel.
2.5 Conclusion
The stresses and deflection are within acceptable limits and pose no apparent hazard. The current structural members–
are adequate for the loading case as mentioned in 2.2 loading case.

The forces are transferred from center of mass to the foundation surface. As a result, a combination of resultant forces
and moments are applied on the top surface of foundation.
Center of mass height (hc) from Main Deck surface = Equipment height/2 = 550 mm
The forces and moments of above values are considered for checking the structural integrity of the hose reel foundation.
Both the forces and moments are applied on the perimeter of the foundation top.
A vertical load is applied on the perimeter of hose reel foundation top in Z - direction. Figure 14indicates the load applied
on the upper flange.

7 Load cases
Hose reel analysis has been performed for 4 load cases with forces acting in Forward (+X)/Aft (-X) and Starboard (-
Y)/Port (-Y).
7.1 Load Case with forces acting in towards Forward and towards Starboard direction.
The design loads for the considered scenario are as indicated in below Table 21. Details of loads calculated are as
indicated in above Chapter 6. The forces and moments are applied on element surface of mesh (as shown in Figure 25).
The loads are applied per unit length. The unit of Forces and Moments are kN and kNm respectively. It is to be noted that
the forces for hose reels in port and starboard sides are same.

8.1 General
The structural strength has been assessed by means of stress utilization against reduced allowable stress as defined in
earlier section4.2.

8.3 Loads
The load in form of uniform pressure is applied at the top of skid. The integration between hose reel foundation and hose
reel is going to be as indicated in Figure 25.Figure 25, Figure 26 and Figure 27 shows the load and moments applied on
the finite element model used for analysis.

8.4 Mesh
The mesh details of hose reel foundation are presented below. Variable mesh sizes and shapes (Triangular and
Quadrilateral) have been used for the analysis. The details of the mesh are as indicated in below Table 25. Figure 29 to
Figure 30indicate the mesh on the model.

The structure is analysed with variable mesh sizes suitable for analysis. The mesh is dense around the corners to capture
the realistic stress and deflection values. Local mesh refinement has been done manually to remove the stress
concentration. The modelled structure is meshed using both triangular and quadrilateral meshing type. The mesh details
on the tool are presented inTable 25: Mesh Properties. Table 25 below:

9 Analysis Methodology
The hose reel foundation is checked with linear static stress analysis of a solid model.
The linear static solver assumes that the structure’s behaviour is linear and the loading is static. It performs the followin g
steps:
Calculates and assembles element stiffness matrices, equivalent element force vectors and external nodal force vectors.
In the stiffness calculation, material temperature dependency is considered through the user nominated temperature case.
Either consistent or lumped element equivalent load vectors can be calculated according to the option setting. Constraints
are also assembled in this process. At the end of this assembly procedure, the following linear system of equilibrium
equations is formed where:
[K] {d} = {P}
[K] = Global stiffness matrix
{d} = Unknown nodal displacement vector(s)
{P} = Global nodal load vector(s).
For inertia relief analysis, the program calculates the translational and rotational accelerations for the structure as a rigid
body, and adds inertia forces to global nodal load vector(s) {p}.

10 Result
With above defined loads and boundary conditions, the FEA analysis for the surface based mesh has been performed
and to validate the design, the structural stress has been checked against allowable von-mises stress for Global
validation.
In Figure 31, the structure is shown up-to 2 m from main deck. The maximum stress observed is 239.9 MPa which is
locally concentrated at the skid on top of main deck. The stress is still under allowable limits as defined in section 4.2.
Hence, the structure is considered safe for installing hose reel.

Document1
The local deflections are to be ignored (as shown in red colour in above Figure 37) as the hose reel is a continuous
structure with the existing structure and load will be suspended from four corners of the skid. The maximum deformation
observed is 2 mm, which is below the maximum allowable limits of deformation for such structure, so the structure is
considered safe for installing hose reel on the top of the foundation. The displacement is as indicated in below Figure 39
and Figure 40.

In Figure 41, the structure is shown up-to 2m from main deck. The maximum stress observed is 123.6 MPa which is
locally concentrated at side shell. The stress is still under allowable limits as defined in section 4.2. Hence the structure is
considered safe for installing hose reel.

The overstress in some elements (as shown in blue colour in above Figure 44) is around the area where hose reels are
placed. Nevertheless, the stresses are within allowable limits.

In the Figure 49, the structure is shown up-to 2m from main deck. The maximum stress observed in Main Deck is 91.77
MPa which is locally concentrated at the corner of side shell. The stress is still under allowable limits as defined in section
4.2. Hence the structure is considered safe for installing hose reel.

InFigure 58, the structure is shown up-to 2m from main deck. The maximum stress observed in Main Deck is 111.5 MPa
which is locally concentrated around skids. The stress is still under allowable limits as defined in section 4.2. Hence the
structure is considered safe for installing hose reel.

Figure 62: Overall view of Deformation of the hose reel foundation [View1]
The local deflections are to be ignored as the hose reel is a continuous structure from the main deck. For the structure up-
to 2m from main deck the maximum deformation observed is 2 mm, which is below the maximum allowable limits of
deformation for such structure, so the structure is considered safe for installing hose reel on the top of the foundation.
