This procedure is generated in part conformance of r e l e v a n t clause of

t e c h n i c a l specification with a purpose to establish a uniform, predetermined
& controlled methodology to enable carrying out of various construction &
testing activities per taining t o Bore cast-in-situ RCC piling works at site.

2.0 SCOPE:

This procedure covers a broad statement of methodology & control for following
activities & related documentation pertaining to driven cast-in-situ RCC piling
works:

1. Ensuring quality of material being incorporated in work

2. Construction of piles

3.0 REFERENCES:

1. RFC Drawing and Schedule of Piles.

2. Code of practice for design and construction of pile foundations
- Bore cast-in-situ concrete piles- IS:2911 (Part1/Sec 1)
3. Code of practice for concrete work - IS:456
4. IS:1786 Specification for high strength deformed steel bars
and wires for concrete reinforcement

4.0 METHODOLOGY & CONTROLS:

Cement:

Ordinary Portland Cement conforming to IS:269 or IS:8112

Cement shall be bought from approved vendors and the batch test certificate shall be
reviewed. Cement shall be stored in closed stores on elevated platform to avoid
deterioration due to moisture.

Aggregate:

Coarse and fine aggregate conforming to IS:383 shall be sourced from appr oved
locat ion. Regular sieve analysis tests @ 1 test per 250cu.m for sand and 1 test
per 350cu.m for coarse aggregate shall be conducted as a minimum. Aggregate shall
be stored size wise near batching plant in such a way as to avoid intermixing of
different sizes and to avoid contamination with soil. Fine aggregate conforming to Zone-
IV of IS:383 shall not be used.

Water:

Water shall be sourced from bore well near batching plant and shall meet the
requirements laid out in IS: 456.
Admixtures:

Approved super-plasticizers conforming to IS: 9103 shall be used. The chloride

content in admixtures shall be less than 2% by mass of 3dmixture or 0.03% by mass of
cement.
Reinforcement bars:

Reinforcement bars shall be H i g h Y i e l d S t r e n g t h D e f o r m e d B a r ( HYSD) of

grade Fe-500D conforming to IS:1786 and shall be procured from approved vendors.
Batch test certificates of reinforcement shall be reviewed. The reinforcement shall be
stored in such a way as to avoid corrosion, deterioration, bending twisting and
wrapping. Inspection of Incoming materials is to be ensured.

Execution methodology

A. Survey works:

a. Survey instruments such as leveling instruments and total stations with

valid calibration status only shall be used.

b. Bench Mark shall be established at convenient locations by referencing

from approved plant Bench Mark. Suitable survey scheme shall be
prepared for this purpose.
c. Existing ground levels shall be taken and recorded in appropriate format.

d. Pile locations as given in drawings shall be accurately marked on ground

by pegs/ nail points in such a way as to avoid disturbance of the markings
due to movement of men/machinery till commencement of pile driving.

B. Pile driving;

1. Position Pilling Rig on Pile Location.

2. Place center of drilling auger on the pile location and check the center.

3. Fix additional side reference pegs/rods to check horizontal location of

the pile before boring gets started. This reference pegs are to be used
for vertical placement of the permanent liner in required location and
position of the Pile.

4. Position casing and drive inside the pre-bored hole carried out.

5. Check verticality of bottom casing.

6. Bail out additional soil from the bottom of the hole and subsequently
drive casing further into soil strata.

7. DMC chisel shall be placed in position and DMC rods shall be fitted to
the chisel.

8. Bentonite mud circulation then started and further boring shall be

done.

9. In directed mud circulation method bentonite solution shall be

circulated in the bore hole for stabilizing the bore walls.

10. Check list of bentonite slurry is Density (by Hydrometer), Viscosity (by
Marsh Cone), pH value.

11. The Bentonite shall be pumped under pressure and re-circulated via
the bentonite slurry tank. The procedure shall be followed till founding
level is available.

12. Take final depth of clear borehole and following the pile termination
criteria as per RFC drawing.

13. Wash the bore before removing the DMC rods and specific gravity of
the bentonite slurry before & after washing shall be recorded.

14. The final depth of clear borehole shall be taken and record jointly. The
final bore depth after socketing in the rock shall be got approved from
the tkIS.

C. Reinforcement

1. Fabricate Pile reinforcement cages as per the details drawing and

provide the cover block at an interval of 2meter and shall be made of
M30 grade conc.
2. Lower the required length of reinforcement cage in the borehole with
the help of lifting Crane.
3. The extension of the cage shall be carried with overlapping two cages
and the lap length shall be as per specifications requirements.
4. The new additional cage shall be overlapped to the previous cage which
is kept supported in hanging position in the bore hole. The laps shall be
stitch welded to prevent slippage / distortion.
5. Helical reinforcement shall be provided to the lapped part of the cage.

6. The lifting points of the reinforcement cages shall be stiffened using

welding hook on the main steel on the opposite face of the cage.

D. Concreting

1. After the cage lowering finishes, lower tremmie pipe in the bore up to the
required depth.
2. All the joints of the tremmie pipes shall be tightened and secured against
any leakage of water entry inside the pipe.

3. Wash the bore through bentonite-water circulating and specific gravity of

the bentonite slurry before & after washing shall be recorded.

4. Care shall be taken to keep gap as required in-between tremmie bottom

and the pile founding level to facilitate free flow of the concrete.

5. Fixed the tremmie hopper at the top, place plug.

6. Pour the high slump concrete as per approved design mix with the slump
between 150mm to180mm.
7. Fill the concrete in hopper fully.
8. Remove plug and charge concrete though tremmie.
9. After placing concrete though tremmie. Check leakage of water entry or
water surge through tremmie pipe before commencing 2nd filling of
concrete and throughout the concrete placement.
10. Again, fill the hopper fully and charge the concrete inside the hole.
Maintain overlap of about 1.00 meter in concrete mass in the hole and
tremmie pipe, so that extra head of concrete shall be maintained to avoid
water entry in tremmie pipes.
11. While pouring concrete through tremmie, jerk hopper up and down to
spread the concrete in the pile body. This operation also compact the
concrete.
12. Tremmie can be withdrawn slowly maintaining sufficient overlap of
concrete in hole and in tremmie.
13. The pouring of concrete shall continue till lean concrete mixed with slurry
shall come out from the bore hole above the cut-off level of the Pile.

14. Remove remaining tremmie pipes, bottom and hopper from the
casing/hole.

Each and every stage of boring, reinforcement, concreting shall be recorded
